Wow…this is a shocker.  Canadian songstress, Sarah McLachlan and her husband of 11 years Ashwin Sood, have ended their marriage.

Two songs from her latest greatest hits album (out October 7),”Closer: The Best of Sarah McLachlan,” that reflect her grief are:   “U Want Me 2″ and “Don’t Give Up on Us“ . 

She tells Billboard.com:

“I’m separating from my husband, so these are the songs about that,” McLachlan, 40,  “I wasn’t planning on saying anything,” McLachlan added, “but it’s gonna come out at some point. I haven’t said anything about it because I’ve been terrified to, but I figure … there’s no good time to say it, so I just said it.

Ashwin and Sarah have two children, both girls.  He is a drummer in her band.

She describes U Want Me To as:

“about that really uncertain, confusing place at the end of a relationship when there’s no communication or closure, everything’s still up in the air and there’s a lot of anger and sadness. It’s sort of that working through ‘How do we move forward … with some dignity and grace.”

And she says that Don’t Give Up,” is:

“pretty self-explanatory, basically just a plea to give it another chance and keep trying.” 

If there is anyone who can write a song and reflect on the grief or melancholy that one feels, it’s Sarah McLachlan, add to that her melodic voice and we will all be crying along with her songs.

She will be promoting the two new songs and is hoping to have a new album out within the next two years.

Well, I can’t imagine Jennifer Lopez taking him to Olive Garden, right?  Of course this woman is going to do it up in style. 

Mark Anthony’s 40th Birthday Party will be held at New York’s Bowery Hotel on Sunday with a long list of celebrities in attendance.  Lopez has been planning the party for months.  According to a source:

“She has planned every detail, from the food to the decor, sparing no expense. She wants to give him a night he’ll always remember.”

I can’t wait to see the pictures and see who was invited.

The backstage demands of several of the celebrities that attended Sunday’s VMA Awards have been made public:

Christina Aguilera – vanilla-scented candles and four black bath towels as well as for both pre and post performance she requested a space heater and two bottles of Veuve Clicquot champagne

Jonas Brothers – room temperature apple juice, eight Red Bull Sugar free beverages, plus 6 regular Red Bulls and 24 pieces of California sushi rolls

Rihanna  – likes Trish MCEvoy blueberry candles, Buffalo wings and roasted chicken, spiced with jerk seasoning before shows

Kid Rock – Chap Stick, white crew socks and low fat raspberry yoghurts.

And if you are wondering, yes, they all got what they requested.

Toni Braxton had to cancel her Las Vegas concerts because of an undiagnosed condition (at that time), but has taken the summer to get well with the help of rest and medications (for her since diagnosed coronary microvascular angina).  The condition starves the blood cells of oxygen leaving the star with severe breathing problems.

She tells America’s TV Guide:

“If I can make it through the five weeks of rehearsals without getting chest tightness, that’s all I want.”
Braxton admits she’s already well on the way to recovery after starting off the summer in a terrible state.
She explains, “I could hardly walk up the stairs… (It felt) like someone was pushing on my chest.”
