Ashlee Simpson Defends Jessica’s Ass

Jessica Simpson’s little sister Ashlee Simpson has come out and blogged about her disgust for Jessica’s weight being a news item:
I am completely disgusted by the headlines concerning my sister’s weight. A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman’s weight or figure as a headline on Fox News.
All women come in different shapes, sizes, and forms and just because you’re a celebrity, there shouldn’t be a different standard.
Is this something you would say to your wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, or even a friend?
I seriously doubt it.
How can we expect teenage girls to love and respect themselves in an environment where we criticize a size 2 figure?
Now can we focus on the things that really matter.
I personally find the comments her moron of a husband made about their sex life (when he was being ‘the man’ on Howard Stern’s radio show) to be degrading to her and just as offensive. That’s really not so different from a weight issue is it? It objectifies a woman. Period. And was his talk about their sex life newsworthy? Why didn’t she come out and express regret over idiot boy’s big mouth?
And let’s talk about Jessica and Ashlee’s father!! Didn’t he come out like a proud papa and discuss the size of Jessica’s breasts in the news? Why wouldn’t that disgust Ashlee? Was that newsworthy? That was just plain sick if you ask me.
I think it’s wonderful she defends her sister like that. Sisters are great (I should know I have the best in the world). But the fact of the matter is she is in a shallow industry and she shouldn’t be surprised shots are taken at things like that.
Does it make them right? Not at all. In fact I’m guilty myself in that I linked to another blog that had pictures of her and I made the comment that it made me want to hit the gym. And I regret that because us women have it bad enough and we are judged and scrutinized on an exterior level way more than men are. And that bites and so I apologize for contributing to that inequity. I usually don’t go down that path to put a woman down for her body or face.
Now in hindsight it isn’t so much the weight as it is the outfit is, well, unflattering. It just is. She is short waisted (I can relate) and should never wear high waisted pants especially with a shirt tucked in and belted with 2 belts. Jessica should know better than that. That’s not to say she deserved it. I’m just saying….
