Malin Ackerman On ‘Ocean Drive’ Magazine

The gorgeous star of Watchmen, Malin Ackerman graces the April 2009 issue of Ocean Drive Magazine and in it discussed the movie, her nude sex scene and her husband.
She talks about the frenzy leading up to the box office opening of Watchmen:
“My body basically told me to ‘F’ off,” “It’s been so crazy but so exciting,” she says. “It’s worth the lack of sleep.”
Despite being outnumbered by men, she maintains it wasn’t bothersome:
“I never felt particular pressure being the only woman,” she recalls. “There was always pressure from myself—since this is the biggest thing I’ve ever done—but the boys were so respectful and treated me amazingly well. We had something special because we were all in Vancouver, where none of us lived, so we hung out and had dinner with other cast members, because there was nothing else to do. We really got along well, and that was the feeling on set, too.”
She didn’t mind the form fitting costume either:
“I’m happy to be linked to that beautiful vision,” she says. “I’m looking forward to being 80 years old and saying, ‘Look what Grandma used to look like!’ Not everyone gets to have an action figure.”
She also felt her nude sex scene with Patrick Wilson was integral:
“Growing up with a Swedish family, there’s a very different attitude as far as nudity goes. Boobs are not something new. Nudity is on TV and presented in a natural way, not as a sexual thing,” she explains. “I can’t stand watching a movie where people are making love and there’s a sheet between them. It’s about realism. This movie absolutely required it. They needed that explosive moment to see how animalistic they become. There’s no way they were going to do it with her latex suit on.”

Her husband didn’t mind though:
“It’s interesting,” she says. “He’s a true Italian from the south of Italy, and they are said to be so jealous. But it’s the complete opposite with him.” “He’s the perfect mixture of cute and sexy, and he’s such a little sarcastic sh*t, which I love,” Akerman says. “We started out as bandmates and friends. What they say about being friends first, then lovers, is true. It makes for the best relationship you could wish for.”
And on why she likes hanging with the boys:
“They give me the liberty to be my silly self. There’s no gossip, and they’re very honest—brutally so—but I prefer that to having people go behind my back.” And, she adds, “hanging out with boys you become more goofy.”
She says her looks aren’t everything:
“I know I’m a pretty girl, but the way you look isn’t how you feel inside,” she says. “I don’t present myself to the world thinking I’m this pretty thing. I know a lot of girls who bank on their looks to keep them afloat. When I was modeling [she won the Ford Supermodel of Canada search at 17 and spent a few years in the posing biz], I wanted to be appreciated as a person. Men treat you differently, and I really hate that aspect of life.”
She gives a little advice to guys on how to get women:
“I’ve always been attracted to guys who are truly comfortable in their skin,” she says. “It’s so hard to give advice, but I think you have to be who you are. Women vary as do men, and the only way to approach a woman is to be authentic. If she’s interested, then that’s great, because you’re not putting on an act. If a woman asks you what car you drive, run away. She’s not the woman you want to be with.”
