Production Halted on Twilight Sequel
Production of the Twilight sequel ‘New Moon’ that is being filmed in Vancouver has been halted among allegations of plagiarism by author Stephanie Meyer’s former college roommate.
Heidi Stanton, 36 of Salt Lake City Utah roomed with Stephanie Meyer during their years at Brigham Young University. Heidi, who is a mother of 4 has not had time to read the books but watched the DVD last week for the first time:
“Quite frankly, I was shocked when I began watching the movie with my husband last week. I immediately told him that she got that idea from me! I wrote a fictional short story with the same ideas when we were in college together.”
On Tuesday papers were filed in Utah for claims of idea infringement and as a result post production of the movie has been halted with studio execs stating that production has been ‘put on hold’.
Heidi has documented proof of her story and BYU English department chairperson Dr. Peter Benton says:
“The story stood out in my mind, at the time, because it was more advanced than most sophmore students usually presented, also the vampire story stood out because I had recently taught a series of lectures on Brahm Stoker’s Dracula.” “I felt at the time that Heidi had brought a very current and up to date look at a classic subject.”
Stephanie Meyer has claimed that the idea came to her during a dream in June of 2003. Without prior writing experience she wrote the book in 3 months with the book(s) going on to sell 42 million copies worldwide and being translated into 37 languages.
Does this news make you think differently about the series?
Is you kidding me. Why didn’t she say something before?She was Stephenie Meyer’s roomate? Why she never read the books. I think she is lying. For that they are stopping producton. OMG. You know how much teenage girls including myself will be disappointed?
I know I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Let’s hope they resolve this really quickly and get the film back on track.
What a BIT–, did this whiney lying bratty women really have to try and ruin the movies for ALL the fans? Shes going to be one of the most hated people in the us… and even if stephenie meyer got some sort of idea of it from a SHORT STORY some women wrote STEPHENIE WROTE 4 BOOKS. she did all the work this woman is completely out of line, i hope she goes to prison for freaking slander.
Don’t worry, Erica, it’s all a hoax. But if it was real, SMeyers plagiarizing is apparently A-OK with you! So the next time someone steals something from you, if you complain, well, you’re just a whining bratty woman, k?
Doesn’t bother me {Whatever} If it is true give the women her a cut if it is false then Expose her”if it is false it will be a huge witch hunt” how fitting. Either way I loved the books “story line” but several time I thought “will someone please steal Stephanie thesaurus”. Her writing ability was a little lacking but the story and imagination was wonderful. I would still give the book 2 thumbs up. Overall if the women is right I don’t really see how you can steal a vampire story??? Not really a first on that and most of the book gravitated around classics anyways. Stephanie even gives credit to such classics as “Romeo and Juliet” and “a mid summer night dream”. Oh well I hope they all get whatever it is that they deserve ………and we get the movie hahaha. {ANY PRESS IS GOOD PRESS}
