Lily Allen performed last night at the Manchester Evening News Arena where she apparently smoked on stage despite the U.K. having a ban on that and her having a chest infection:

“I’ve got a bout of bronchitis so sorry if my singing’s a bit s**t. Not that it’s any good anyway.”

Last year she received a fine in Paris for smoking on stage and in December she was the centre of an investigation for lighting up on stage in the U.K.

Both Britain and France outlawed smoking in public places in 2007.  I’m not sure if that means public venues like arenas or if it includes out on the street.  Although I’ve never been to Paris I hear there are a lot of smokers and I find it hard to believe no one walking on the street lights up a cigarette.

Kind of crazy though to be smoking when you have bronchitis.  Not claiming to be a doctor or anything but I’m pretty certain breathing helps sustain life.

Precious cleaned up at the 25th Annual Independent Spirit Awards last night in Los Angeles with newcomer Gabourey Sidibe winning Best Female Lead, Mo’Nique winning for Best Supporting Actress, the film also won for Best Feature, Best Director, and Best First Screenplay.

Jeff Bridges won for Best Male Lead in Crazy Horse and Woody Harrelson won for Best Supporting Male in The Messenger.
