EXCLUSIVE: Introducing Musical Artist jsin

He’s hot, he’s single and he counts Axl Rose and Prince among his musical influences. Ladies and gentlemen I’m excited to introduce you to a talented young man that goes by the name of jsin (the lowercase is not a type-o).
jsin’s debut album is now available on iTunes with the very sexy Inside being the first single from it. It’s a very catchy tune with a great beat that I swear to you I hum all day after I’ve listened to it.
I had the opportunity to interview jsin (I know him through my husband) recently:
INMF: Jsin how long have you been performing and writing your own material?
jsin: I started singing by covering Guns n’ Roses songs, trying to do my best impersonation of Axl Rose. Slowly begain writing 7-8 years ago but didn’t really sing my own material until 5 years ago.
INMF: How does it feel to be totally independent with your new album ‘Born’?
jsin: Independence allows for creative control in all facets of the album – content, style, marketing. That said, resources are always limited when you don’t have a corporation behind you. I do appreciate, however, the fact that everything on the album is my choice, or my design.

INMF: What’s behind the name ‘Born’
jsin: It’s a huge deal for me to have completed this album – it took a lot longer than originally anticipated. I don’t think I really understood what went into finishing a full album. I changed my mind about songs, production style, lyrics…Now that it’s done, I felt like I was going down a new path, and therefore I felt Born was an appropriate title, because that’s what the album really is…a ‘rebirth’ of sorts. When I listen to these songs, there’s an innocent rawness to them that you can only find on the first songs.
INMF: How long did the album take to make and was the experience anything like what you expected?
jsin: The album took close to three years…I didn’t really know what to expect at all. At first you think it will be straight forward, but throughout the process you learn things that influence you in different ways (I’m also very fickle.) The style changed throughout the process, and I even took a break because I wasn’t sure about what I wanted to do. Once I had a good idea of what I wanted the final package to be, it went quite smoothly. It also helps to be working with a great producer – I’m fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Vikas Kohli of Fatlabs.
INMF: What artists do you hope to collaborate with one day (writing, producing, performing)?
jsin: Wow…this is hard. I’d love to meet and work with folks with Axl Rose and Thom Yorke, but it could be better to leave the influences as influences. I’d like to work with a guy like Dave Navarro because I think the output would be pretty cool. Working with Trent Reznor would probably be an incredible experience as well – our vocal styles are quite different but it could make for an interesting production. I’d love to work with LIGHTS, but I can’t say that it’s all music-based! I have a huge passion for ‘chillout’ music and would love to work with a Groove Armada, UNKLE or someone similar to do some chillout remixes.
When I hear ‘Inside’, I can’t help but wonder how it would sound if Prince was involved. His music always has a sexy, funky feel to it and he’s definitely an artist who I’d want to work with. The same goes for George Michael – ‘Fastlove’ is one of my all time favourites!
Oh, and let’s not forget Slash…
INMF: How was the experience premiering your music video at the ReelWorld Film Festival?
jsin: Great experience. After meeting Moe Jiwan, I had the pleasure of meeting Tonya and the rest of the team, along with several actors, producers, directors, musicians, etc. Seeing the video on the big screen was a trip too. I must admit that having the chance to work with someone like Laurence Trepanier (female actress) was incredible – she’s talented and a joy to work with…oh and beautiful too.
INMF: Did you always know you wanted to do music?
jsin: Not at all. I don’t think I knew I had it in me until my early 20’s, and even then, I don’t think I really felt it was something I would ever take that seriously. Only in the past few years have I really realized that it is where I’d like to spend my time and energy.
INMF: Do you get nervous performing or does it feel natural?
jsin: Both. It feels incredibly natural, however, I do get nervous energy before every single performance, but it’s only because every show has to be better than the last.
INMF: How did you go about finding a producer (M.A.G.) and director Vikas Kohli?
jsin: It’s funny how we run into people that end up being extremely important in our life/career. I met Vikas through an old friend whose sister had worked with him . I had a conversation with him (over the phone) and quickly realized he wasn’t your typical producer, meaning, he wasn’t interested in moulding his artists, rather, he was more interested in working with their ideas.
M.A.G. is a friend from childhood whom I had lost touch with; he pursued a film career in LA and we got in touch, starting chatting, and then the next thing you know we’re doing a video! I loved his approach and vision from the get go – he’s a perfectionist and one creative dude. He will not stop until he gets the desired result. It was great working with him.
INMF: Where do you see yourself in 5 years
jsin: I wish I could answer this, but I can barely see where I’ll be in 5 weeks. Hopefully it involves a few more albums and a world tour. Acting is definitely something of interest, but we’ll see what happens…
INMF: What was the process behind choosing the first single from Born?
jsin: It was pretty easy – we wanted a song with energy and a sexy vibe and Inside was too good not to be the first single! It’s also different than what’s currently out there without being ‘too’ different. It’s a song that is easy to listen to, easy to get into…

Ha ha ha!!! The ‘me’ who listed the 4 things above is my husband
A question I didn’t include was ‘if you could write a song about my husband what would you call it’ to which jsin responded that perhaps my husband insipired him for ‘Inside’
*gulp*
I hope not. Maybe gulp isn’t the right word
