Michael Jackson‘s father has signed a deal to release his-and-hers fragrances in ‘memory’ of his late son.

The estranged Jackson family patriarch has teamed up with Julian Rouas Paris, a Frenchman who manufactures own-brand and private-label fragrances, reports AFP

Said fragrances, both eau de parfums, are supposedly inspired by plants that grow at the late King of Pop’s Neverland Ranch, and will be thus named: “Jackson’s Tribute” for men and “Jackson’s Legend” for women.

The fragrances will be launched on March 7 in the United States.

The firm’s chief executive, Franck Rouas, tells AFP, “With Joe Jackson, we are 50-50 partners in world sales, television rights and advertising receipts (for the collection).”

And here’s the kicker. Unlike most fragrances, which can be on the boil for years as lab-coated test tube nerds tinker with their concoctions, this particular aroma was conceived in just two weeks. Exactly. I like that raised cynical eyebrow look on you. Suits you.

“We did it very very quickly,” said Rouas. “Usually it takes a year.”

Granted, there is a whiff of philanthropy to this tale. A portion of the proceeds will be given to a number of the late singer’s favourite charities.

However…MJ’s Estate hasn’t been in on the fragrance plans. A spokesman for the Thriller star’s Estate said it was “a Joe Jackson deal,” in which is was not involved.

Now why doesn’t that surprise me.
