Demi Lovato Had A Nervous Breakdown

Demi Lovato opened up about her recent stay in rehab in which she tells Seventeen Magazine that she had a nervous breakdown:
“I basically had a nervous breakdown. I was really bad off. My parents and my manager pulled me aside and said, ‘You need to get some help.’ It was an intervention. I wanted freedom from the inner demons. I wanted to start my life over,”
“One of the reasons I was so unhappy for years was because I never embraced my emotions and I was trying to stay in control,” she says. “In treatment, all of the negative things I did were stripped away and I had to start processing my feelings.”
That’s a lot to go through for someone so young (she’s only 18) but it’s good that she got help early and it’s even better that from the nervous breakdown, she is working with Seventeen Magazine in conjunction with The Jed Foundation for a campaign called ”Love is LouderThan the Pressure to be Perfect.”

Isn’t that wonderful? When models come out and tell the public that even they don’t look like their magazine covers, something is terribly wrong. It sets up young and impressionable teens (even younger and older than teens) with a completely unattainable image of what is considered ‘normal’.
Part of her contribution is to write articles twice a month:
“I’m so excited to be working with Seventeen and The Jed Foundation to help other teens talk about and cope with the problems we all face.”
“My fans have been such an incredible support system for me – I hope I can repay this and help other girls learn from my experiences.”
That is a truly fabulous thing for her to do. She’s taking something so personal as a nervous breakdown and reaching out to help teens. What a class act.
