Did you see this split coming? After 25 years of marriage, Arnold Schwarzenegger, 63 and his wife Maria Shriver,55 have separated. The two made a joint public statement on the split:

“This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us,” they say. “After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together.

“At this time, we are living apart, while we work on the future of our relationship,” they continue. “We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and the center of both of our lives.”

The power-house couple have been married since 1986 and have four children together: Katherine Eunice, 21, Christina Maria Aurelia, 19, Patrick Arnold, 17,  and Christopher Sargent Shriver, 13.  After a successful action-movie career, Schwarzenegger became the governor of California (where he ended his two-term run four months ago) but a series of allegations that he liked to grope women during his movie career seemed to follow him. Shriver also fiercely defended him on the same allegations.

In January Shriver lost her father Sargent Shriver who was predeceased by his wife Eunice Kennedy Shriver who died on August 11, 2009.
