Michael Fassbender to Play a ‘Gangster’ for Danny Boyle

Michael Fassbender to Play 'Gangster' in Danny Boyle Film

According to Variety, Michael Fassbender is in talks to join director Danny Boyle’s next film, Trance, a remake of a British TV movie from 2001.

Fassbender would play a ‘gangster’ (swoon) who teams up with an art house assistant to plan a major heist. Things get complicated when the assistant, the only person who knows the whereabouts of the loot, gets hit on the head resulting in amnesia. A hypnotist is called in to recover the assistant’s memory, hence the film’s title.

No word yet on other casting but I for one am hoping that either the assistant or the hypnotist will be a love interest (read: sex scenes) for Fassbender’s character. (If you have any doubts about his charisma as a leading man, get thee to a cinema to see Jane Eyre pronto). I’ve been following Michael Fassbender’s career since 300 and while it’s been on an upward swing since then, it’s been white hot since he played Lt. Archie Hickox for Quentin Tarentino in Inglourious Basterds.

Boyle is just the latest in a string of high caliber directors who’ve come knocking. In the past few years he’s worked with the likes of David Cronenberg (A Dangerous Method with Viggo Mortenson), Steven Soderbergh (Haywire with Ewan McGregor) Currently Fassbender is filming Prometheus with Sir Ridley Scott, having just completed X-Men:First Class for Matthew Vaughn, due out next month. According to imdb, he’ll also be appearing in Guy Ritchie’s next project, Excaliber. (This is one of two like themed projects currently in pre-production. I think this one is the remake of John Boorman’s 1981 classic.) When does this guy sleep?

Boyle is reportedly getting ready for a September start in London and the film is due late 2012.
