Chris Hemsworth Wins!

Chris Hemsworth Wins!

Chris Hemsworth Wins!

Remember last week I told you that Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman had finally found a male lead in Aussie hunk-of-the-month Chris Hemsworth?

Remember how I also mentioned that Relativity had a competing fairy tale themed film coming called The Brothers Grimm: Snow White AND that it would beat Hemsworth and company to the box office gate by about six months?

Well, it seems that Universal, so psyched about finally getting this pic cast, has moved up the release date. The new date for Snow White and the Huntsman is June 1, 2012 with The Brothers Grimm following on June 29, 2012!

So, while it’s Kristen Stewart vs Lily Collins as Snow White and Charlize Theron vs Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, it’s not exactly Chris Hemsworth vs Armie Hammer since one is playing the titular Huntsman and the other is playing the Prince. (SWATH’s prince is played by Sam Claflin. Who?)

What I find most amusing about this face off is that everyone’s getting all hot and bothered about release dates when not one single frame of either film has actually been shot.

(More) Blood Suckers Are Coming!

Michael Fassbender to Play 'Gangster' in Danny Boyle Film

Some good news for a Monday: The invasion of Hollywood blood suckers continues and no, I don’t mean agents. I’m referring, of course to vampires, which have gone from hot to ubiquitous in recent years. Proving as resilient as Dracula himself, there is apparently no end to the inventive permutations the fanged -ones lend themselves to.

While the emo kids of the Twilight Series might be fading into the sunset, (or is it dawn?) we have the quasi-historical stylings of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, to look forward to next year. (I am looking forward to it-it has such a crazy cast that I just have to see it. Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Mary Todd Lincoln?) Just when it seemed the craze had wound down and played itself out, we get news that two of film’s most iconoclastic directors, Neil Jordan and Jim Jarmusch, both have vampire-themed pics in the pipeline.

The Hollywood Reporter announced last week that Jordan has cast Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan as mother and daughter (!!) vampires in Byzantium from a script by Jane Eyre scribe Moira Buffini.

Yesterday it was announced that Jarmusch will make an as-yet untitled vampire love story. What really has my socks rolling up and down about this news is that he has reportedly cast Michael Fassbender (rapidly becoming the hardest working man in show biz-and yes, I said that too. Get used to it) as a freakin’ VAMPIRE! “Uncle Peter! My smelling salts!”* Oh yeah, and Tilda Swinton and Mia Wasikowska will be in it too. Needless to say, I will be keeping a close eye on more news about this one.

Filming will reportedly begin in early 2012.

Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf To Get Wet By Year’s End

Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf To Get Wet By Year’s EndTom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf To Get Wet By Year’s End

The Weinstein Company has emerged as the likely winner in the bidding war for distribution rights to The Wettest County in the World, the prohibition-era drama starring Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Jason Clarke…lord, excuse me…I’ll just be another minute. (If this keeps up, I may not make it til the film’s release.) Oh and on the distaff side, there’s hot “IT” girls Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska. Can you tell I’m looking forward to this?

The King of All Hollywood, Ryan Kavanaugh, and his Relativity Media had been the front runner going into the weekend. In fact some sources had proclaimed him the winner. Word is that they lost out because they wanted to wait for a final cut, which would have pushed the release of the film back well into 2012. With the Weinstein’s bid almost a done deal, this paves the way for an end of year limited release, in time for awards season, and a wider opening (is it me or did that sound filthy?) in early 2012.

Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth in ‘Gambit’ (Photo)

Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth in 'Gambit'

Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth in 'Gambit'

This new crime-comedy, Gambit flick stars two of my favorites in Hollywood: Colin Firth (love that accent) and Cameron Diaz…she’s divine.  Anyhow, having these two on the same screen is something new and I am really looking forward to it.

Cameron Diaz and A-Rod Take Relationship To Next Level

In the movie written by Joel and Ethan Coen, Firth plays British art curator Harry Deane, who devises a finely-crafted scheme to con England’s richest man and avid art collector, Lionel Shabandar, (Rickman) into purchasing a fake Monet painting. In order to bait his buyer, he recruits a Texas rodeo queen (Diaz) to cross the pond and pose as a woman whose grandfather liberated the painting at the end of WWII.

They still haven’t given us a release date… but we will let you know as soon as we find out!
