It was a year ago, July 2010 when it was announced that Andrew Garfield would play Peter Parker. Now, thanks to thefilmstage and Entertainment Weekly, we have our first look at Garfield as The Amazing Spider-Man!

EW’s cover story on the webslinger has yielded some up close and personal looks at the suit as well as the actual web-slinging mechanisms. We also see Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy (not Mary Jane Watson), Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben Parker,Sally Field as May Parker and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors aka The Lizard.

Garfield beat out a host of young actors  like Josh Hutcherson, Logan Lerman, Jamie Bell, Aaron Johnson and Anton Yelchin for the lead. were also considered to play the lead role. Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre), Diana Agron, Imogen Poots (Jane Eyre, Fright Night), Emma Roberts, Lindsey Lohan (she must have auditioned between rehab/jail stints), Lilly Collins, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Hilary Duff were all considered for the role that eventually went to Emma Stone. The cast also includes Denis Leary, Embeth Davidtz, Campbell Scott, C. Thomas Howell, Annie Parisse and Irrfan Khan as Proto-Goblin

The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, will be in front of Captain America: The First Avenger when it hits theaters next week July 22 and will run a respectable two minutes, thirty seconds. So get your popcorn, find a seat and strap in early! The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters on 3 July 2012 in the UK, US & Canada.
