Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried star in the new sci-fi thriller In Time, directed by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Lord of War). The premise for the film is pretty cool: In the future no one ages past 25, which sounds good until we learn that they only live to be 26…unless they can buy more time. Time becomes the new currency.

The official synopsis from Fox: “Welcome to a world where time has become the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but there’s a catch: you’re genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it. The rich ‘earn’ decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day. When a man from the wrong side of the tracks is falsely accused of murder, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful hostage. Living minute to minute, the duo’s love becomes a powerful tool in their war against the system.”

Timberlake plays Will Salas, who at 28 has only one more day to live because he’s run out of currency/time. Will meets a wealthy man who’s over 100 years old and begins a one-man war against the unrelenting “Timekeepers”.

It sounds kind of like a new, more hopeful spin on the premise for Logan’s Run, wherein everyone was terminated at 30. At least in the world of In Time, there is the possibility of extending life expectancy.

In Time was meant to be the first starring role for Timberlake although two others were released first. After Bad Teacher and Friends with Benefits, this will be his third film released this year. (And he’s been nominated for 3 Emmys) Careful JT, don’t want to wear out your welcome too quickly. You might become….ubiquitous! *dun dun dun*.

Besides Timberlake and Seyfried, the film sports a cast full of “young Hollywood” all-stars like Olivia Wilde (who plays JT’s mother, even though she’s actually younger than he is), Alex Pettyfer, Cillian Murphy, Johnny Galecki, Matt Bomer and Vincent Kartheiser.

In Time opens in the US on October 28 and in the UK on 1 November.

Amy Winehouse’s parents, Mitch and Janis Winehouse along with Amy’s brother Alex and her former fiancé Reg Traviss greeted the many fans that stood outside of Amy’s London home where the singer was found dead on Saturday.

Her parents read the touching sentiments left by fans and talked with fans and thanked them:

“I can’t tell you what this means to us. It really is making this a lot easier for us,” he told the gathered mourners. “Amy was about one thing and that was love. Her whole life was devoted to her family and her friends and to you guys as well.”

“Thank you for coming,” he told the fans. “It means so much to me and my family.”

An autopsy is scheduled for today. TMZ is reporting that a friend and rep for Amy, Chris Goodman said Amy died in her bed alone:

“She was in her bedroom after saying she wanted to sleep and when he went to wake her he found she wasn’t breathing.”

Goodman continued, “He called the emergency services straight away. He was very shocked. At this stage no one knows how she died. She died alone in bed.”

It breaks my heart to think of her dying alone and also to see her parents grieving for their daughter. But one thing is for certain, they are feeling a lot of love from Amy’s fans and hopefully that will help them through this terrible time.

There is no denying that I find Prince Harry hot. He’s the ‘hot one’ as far as I’m concerned and yes I realize his ‘bad-boy’ image may have something to do with that. But, as these pictures show, there is also a very sweet side to him and you see it when he interacts with kids and dogs. That isn’t just for publicity’s sake, it’s just who Prince Harry is. And that’s hot. Sweet and saucy is a very hot combination in a man.

A batch of new images have come to light from David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, starring Michael Fassbender as Carl Jung, Viggo Mortensen as Sigmund Freud and Keira Knightley as Sabina Spielrein, a woman who is a patient of both and the lover of one.

A Dangerous Method, with a screenplay by Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liasons, Atonement) is just the latest in a long line of Cronenberg’s psychosexual explorations (Rage, Videodrome, Dead Ringers, The Naked Lunch, Crash, eXisTenz, Spider) and his third film with Viggo Mortensen (A History of Violence, Eastern Promises), although Christoph Waltz was initially cast as Freud. This one deals with the intense relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud that gives birth to psychoanalysis. Seduced by the challenge of an impossible case given to him by his friend and mentor Sigmund Freud, the driven Dr. Jung (Fassbender) takes the unbalanced yet beautiful Spielrein as his patient  using the methods of his master. Both men fall under Sabina’s spell.

I have to wonder if the film will address the issue of Spielrein’s contributions. For decades she was little more than footnote in psychiatric history, even though she herself actually went on to become one of the world’s first psychoanalysts. As this is a fictionalized account, I suspect they will probably emphasize the sexual nature of both her psychosis as well as her supposed relationship with Jung. I definitely plan to see it to find out!

A Dangerous Method  is scheduled to screen at the Venice and the Toronto International Film Festivals and will be released by Sony Pictures Classics in the UK on 10 February 2012. Still no official date for the US.

One of the good things about Comic Con, and there are many, is that it really does let you know what’s coming down the pike and let’s you know what the next big thing will be. It puts things on your radar that you might otherwise have missed out on.

The Darkest Hour is one of those things. I’d never heard of it, (And frankly, that’s saying something if I do say so myself) but it sounds very very cool. Filmed on location in Russia, the pic above is the film’s star Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild, Milk) in Moscow’s Red Square, with St. Basil’s Cathedral in the background. Production actually had to be suspended for three weeks due to the heavy smoke from the wild fires surrounding Moscow in August 2010.

Synopsis: The Darkest Hour follows five young people who find themselves stranded in Moscow, fighting to survive in the wake of a devastating alien attack.   The 3D action-thriller highlights the classic beauty of Moscow alongside mind-blowing special effects from the minds of visionary filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch) and director Chris Gorak.

Except for the part about the 3D (yawn) I’m all for this. It may or may not have anything to offer the ever expanding ‘alien-invasion genre’, other than “the classic beauty of Moscow” but that might just be enough. Aren’t you tired of aliens terrorizing New York or LA? What about the rest of the world? Why would aliens be as ethnocentric as Earthlings?

Below is some concept art that was revealed, during Comic Con (where else?) with the promise of a trailer coming soon. This is only the second feature for director Chris Gorak. His first, Right at Your Door, was a hit at Sundance in 2006. In addition to Hirsch, The Darkest Hour costars Olivia Thirlby (Juno, Solitary Man), Max Minghella (Syriana, The Social Network), Rachel Taylor (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and Joel Kinnaman (“The Killing”, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) along with many Russians and is scheduled for a December 23 release in the US and 13 January in the UK.
