The Dwarves Are Coming, The Dwarves are Coming!

The Dwarves Are Coming, The Dwarves are Coming!

No poster this time, but I told you we’d be getting more news and sneak peeks at Peter Jackson’s work-in-progress, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Today, MSN released a pic of two more of the dwarves: Fili (Kiwi*Dean O’Gorman) and Kili (Aidan Turner of BBC’s “Being Human” – fangirl moment: SKWEEEE!).

“Two of the youngest Dwarves, Fili and Kili have been born into the royal line of Durin and raised under the stern guardianship of their uncle, Thorin Oakenshield. Neither has ever travelled far, nor ever seen the fabled Dwarf City of Erebor. For both, the journey to the Lonely Mountain represents adventure and excitement. Skilled fighters, both brothers set off on their adventure armed with the invincible courage of youth, neither being able to imagine the fate which lies before them. ”

Down below I’ve included a couple of images of director Jackson on his New Zealand set. As well, take a look at the latest video blog, ten and a half minutes of behind the scenes coolness:

Speaking of ‘behind the scenes coolness’, how cool is this??  It’s Elf leader Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman)!!

The Dwarves Are Coming, The Dwarves are Coming!

Every little piece of news has me more excited for these two films! The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey doesn’t even open until December 14 2012. Can I handle it? Well, I guess we’ll find out won’t we?

*No, that’s not part of his name, it’s what people from New Zealand are referred to as…Kiwis.

The Key to Hugo, on a Poster!

The Key to Hugo, on a Poster!

I told you it was poster day!

Thanks to Comingsoon, we have a look a look at Martin Scorsese’s first family friendly feature (did I mention I like alliteration?) and the first in nine years not to star Leonardo Di Caprio, Hugo. (Scorsese probably would have gone with Leo, but he’s a bit old for the part) And it really is a look. Someone at Comingsoon took a pic of the poster outside a theater in LA this past weekend and is sharing it with the world.

Set in 1930s Paris, it’s the story of an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station and becomes embroiled in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton. It used to be called The Invention of Hugo Cabret, after the title character and the Caldecott-winning novel by Brian Selznick upon which it’s based, but apparently that was thought to be too many words for the ticket buying public even though every other title this summer is twelve words and a colon. The really good news is that the script is by ace screenwriter John Logan (AviatorHurt LockerCoriolanusBond 23 among others) no matter what it’s called (not to mention directed by Scorsese. I defy anyone to name a bad Scorsese film.)

The impressive cast includes Emily Mortimer, Sacha Baron Cohen, Sir Ben Kingsley, Chloe Moretz, Asa Butterfield (Nanny McPhee Returns) as young Hugo and Jude Law as his father.

The pics below are from the Paris set featuring Chloe Moretz as Isabelle and Sir Ben Kingsley as Papa Georges.

Hugo will open in both 3D and 2D on November 23 in the US and 2 December in the UK.

The Thing is, it’s a Poster

The Thing is, it's a Poster

It must be poster day in Hollywood. No one told me or I’d have dressed up. Thanks to Universal, there’s a new teaser poster for the “prelude” to John Carpenter’s 1982 sci-fi classic, The Thing.  Let me say that again, it is not a remake, it’s a PREQUEL, even though it is also titled, The Thing and even though it also follows the discovery of an extraterrestrial ship with an organism on board buried deep in Antarctica and then the researchers that discover the organism take it back to their base camp where they find out it has the ability to shape shift. Hmmm, oh yeah I see the difference. (I’m aware sarcasm doesn’t work well in print so I’ll just tell you. That was sarcastic!) Seriously, the filmmakers wanted to make the stipulation because they were fans of Carpenter’s original and didn’t want to “paint a mustache on the Mona Lisa” by remaking it. Admirable. We’ll see.  There’s a much longer explanation at the film’s official website.

In any case, the PREQUEL stars one of our new boyfriends, Joel Edgerton (WarriorAnimal Kingdom) and for you Scott Pilgrim vs the World fans who fell in love with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, she’s in it too.  Dutch director Matthijs van Heijningen only has one other feature to his credit (Red Rain, a Dutch thriller from 1996), but he has been attached to direct the Army of Darkness reboot.  Ahh, if it weren’t for remakes, reboots, prequels and preludes, where would all these up and coming talents find gainful employment? The rest of the cast includes
Adewale Akinnuoy-Agbaje (“Lost”, FasterKiller Elite) and a lot of Norwegians and Danes.

The Thing was originally set to be released in April, but was pushed back to the fall. It hits in the US & the UK on 14 October 2011.

The Dark Knight Rises Gets a Teaser Poster!

The Dark Knight Rises Gets a Teaser Poster!

Warner Bros. has released the first look teaser poster for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.  Not much is known about the plot for the third installment of the Batman reboot, other than the cast. Reportedly Gary Oldman let slip in an interview that Nolan told his actors the ending verbally to avoid any leaks of script pages.

Nolan, by the way, is the first to direct more than two Batman films. Christian Bale is, of course, Batman/Bruce Wayne (He’s the first actor to portray the character in three films as well.) , Michael Caine is Alfred, Oldman is Jim Gordon and Morgan Freeman is Lucius Fox. New additions include Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, as well as a reunion of Inception cast members, including one of our boyfriends, Tom Hardy as Bane, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate (Bruce Wayne’s love interest, a role for which Kate Winslett, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz were all considered).

The poster doesn’t tell us much, other than it’s ‘classic Nolan’. It basically shows Gotham City either getting blown to bits or just crumbling from urban decay, we don’t know, but then of course a bat shape is revealed.  According to rumor, the first teaser trailer will hit the web this week. Since it’s attached to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 in theaters, it will be hard to keep it off. Warner’s is apparently just going to go with it.

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to hit theaters July 20, 2012 in the UK, US & Canada.

Mila Kunis Shows Some Skin on GQ Magazine

Mila Kunis Shows Some Skin on GQ Magazine

Mila Kunis is showing some skin on the cover of GQ but unfortunately for the diehard Mila Kunis fans, it’s probably not enough skin or the right parts of her body.

She looks a bit naughty in her bathing suit and sheer top with an iced coffee (I’m guessing) and a mischevious grin on her face.

I LOVE me some Mila Kunis and I love her even more now that she has agreed to accompany Sgt. Scott Moore to the Corps Ball November 18 upon his return from Afghanistan.

Within GQ magazine she confirms that she is single (she split from Macaulay Culkin) and tells them whether or not she’s been in a ‘Friends With Benefits’ type relationship:

Oy. I haven’t, but I can give you my stance on it: It’s like communism—good in theory, in execution it fails. Friends of mine have done it, and it never ends well. Why do people put themselves through that torture?

It’s a funny interview. She’s  got a bit of a potty mouth (which doesn’t define her..I mean if that’s the worst thing a person does, that’s okay in my books but she is also still SO adorable) and is quite funny. This girl is going to be around for a very long time!
