*****Sorry people but I had to take these photos down per 20th Century Fox*****
Two new pics have emerged from the super secret set of Sir Ridley Scott’s Alien inspired (we can’t say prequel and we know it’s not a sequel), Prometheus.
The set would seem to be inspired by the designs of Swiss artist H.R. Giger who designed the creatures and visual effects for 1979′s Alien (and inspired all of the sequels that followed.) In my opinion, even if the story is not directly linked to that first film, if Prometheus takes place in the same world then it makes sense that it should match Giger’s initial vision. It does not appear, from crew information on imdb and from Giger’s own websites, that Giger is in any way associated with Scott’s new film. The production design is being handled by Arthur Max, who has worked on every Ridley Scott film since 1997′s G.I. Jane.
While we don’t know exactly how the sets pictured fit into the grand scheme of the film (especially since the whole thing is shrouded in secrecy), the chair in the foreground of one of pics gives it scale. The word “epic” springs easily to mind.
A vague synopsis was released last month:
“The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.”
Endless essays in film schools and on movie blogs everywhere will probably be written about that theme and how it relates to the film’s title, (Prometheus was the Greek god responsible for molding all of mankind out of clay.) and countless debates waged over Scott’s esoteric vision. It’s still a year away and I’m already excited to see the thing. The fan boys are going to hopping around like ferrets on crack if Scott keeps teasing us this way. No wonder he’s considered a genius.
The genius cast he’s assembled so far includes Michael Fassbender (who has said his blonde hair for the film makes him look like a “ten quid rentboy” – how much is that in dollars? I’m pretty sure I could come up with that. You think that’s by the hour or by the pop?), Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Ben Foster, Charlize Theron, Logan Marshall-Green, Rafe Spall & Sean Harris.
Prometheus is currently in production at Pinewood Studios outside of London and scheduled for a June 2012 release.
