Elisabetta Canalis, George Clooney at the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights
Elisabetta Canalis can’t get over George and neither could I. OMG. Can you imagine being dumped by him?? I’d never get out of my sweats again. Tubs of ice cream… the works.
George loved her cooking so much that she’s still hooking him up with it!
She’s sending him jars of her tomato sauce as well as other specialties like marinated eggplant and sesame cookies. “Elisabetta was of course heartbroken when George ended things, because she really believed they’d marry one day. But she still feels the need to feed and take care of him when she can,” the insider says. “She knows the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so that could be the reason she’s still sending him care packages.”
What a doll she is! I could NEVER do that. I have way too much pride. But then, anything to get back in his house, right?

We have three fantastic new character posters for Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens thanks to Empire Online! It should be apparent by now that I am beyond excited for this film, and if you’re tired of reading as I jump around about it, it opens this Friday, July 29.
The three posters show Daniel Craig’s James Bond…I mean Jake Lonergan looking steely-eyed and holding a really big gun. Harrison “Grumpy” Ford’s Indiana Jones…I mean Col. Dolarhyde, has an even bigger gun. Hmmm…age before beauty? The third poster is Olivia Wilde’s Ella also brandishing a gun, but I’m guessing that’s not what the fanboys are going to be focusing on.
Cowboys & Aliens had a huge premiere at San Diego’s Comic Con last weekend, complete with red carpet. Just about all of the cast and crew made an appearance. There’s no doubt the PR machine is cranking so hard there’s smoke pouring out of it. Cowboys & Aliens started the campaign trail back in February with a teaser during the Super Bowl. The past month has seen a plethora of trailers, clips and still images, not to mention the principles hitting the chat show circuit, with Ford, Craig, Wilde and director Favreau in heavy rotation. I love seeing Daniel Craig doing a talk show, one because it’s so rare, and two because he’s usually clearly ‘over’ the whole thing. He’s one of the few people that can get me to watch Leno at all anymore. One thing I have noticed this go-round is that although he will NOT discuss it, he appears “looser” and more relaxed since his surprise marriage to Rachel Weisz. (Maybe it’s my imagination and I’m just wishing them a show-biz marriage that actually works.) In any case, I can’t wait to see the movie this weekend. What’s on your agenda?
Here’s a look at Guy Moshe’s anime/samurai/gangster flick mashup, Bunraku. The film has been in the can for quite some time seeking distribution. It played the Toronto International Film Festival in 2010 and Sundance in January 2011.
After watching the trailer, I can understand the hesitation, although there have certainly been movies with less going for them given wide releases. This one sports an eclectic cast to say the least: Woody Harrelson, Ron Perlman, Kevin McKidd, Demi Moore, Gackt (a Japanese model/ pop-star) and Josh Hartnett in what is now being billed as his “comeback”. (I wasn’t aware he’d gone anywhere, were you?)
This one came to my attention for one reason: Kevin McKidd (Trainspotting, Dog Soldiers, “Rome”, “Grey’s Anatomy”. Elgin Scotland’s favorite son is just not on the big screen often enough for my taste, so Bunraku has been on my radar. McKidd’s character goes by the name of Killer #2, so I’m guessing that’s a pretty good indication of who he is. In any case, gotta love the purple zoot suit and the eye-makeup.
Written by the director, there is little else to his credit. Holly, about a Vietnamese girl who forms a bond with an American black marketeer is significant for being the penultimate role of the late Chris Penn. Both Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore were fans of that film and signed on for Moshe’s next film because of it.
Bunraku is the tale of a young man (Hartnett), known only as ‘The Drifter’, who has spent his life searching for revenge only to find himself up against a bigger challenge than he originally bargained for. It’s highly stylized making impressive use of green screens and other primary colors. It looks like a more colorful version of Sin City. The title comes from a 400-year-old form of Japanese puppet theater, which is a style of storytelling using 4′ puppets with giant highly detailed heads, operated by puppeteers who blend into the background by wearing black robes and hoods.
Looks fun! It could be the perfect antidote to prepackaged summer formulas and super heroes. Bunraku finally opens in the US on September 30. My guess is that will be extremely limited and you should probably look for it on VOD.
