New images have been unearthed for the new remake…no that’s not it…reboot…nope, not right either…sequel…no, definitely not…prequel…mmm…maybe…anway, new images from The Thing. You know…the new movie directed by Matthijs van Heijningen that looks exactly like a movie directed by John Carpenter back in 198s that has the same title and plot?
We showed you a trailer and a poster last week, now we’ve got some cool pictures. The movie stars one of our new favorites, Joel Edgerton (Warrior, with one of our other new favorites, Tom Hardy) so I’m thinking I’ll still be plonking down some cash to see it. The cast also includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs the World as if you didn’t know), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (who can be seen in this fall’s Killer Elite), Eric Christian Olsen, Kim Bubbs, Stig Henrik Hoff, Jonathan Walker
The official synopsis: “Scientists in the Antarctic are confronted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of the people that it kills. ”
Oops, that was for the 1982 version. Here’s the official synopsis for the 2011 version:”At an Antarctica research site, the discovery of an alien craft leads to a confrontation between graduate student Kate Lloyd and scientist Dr. Sander Halvorson. While Dr. Halvorson keeps to his research, Kate partners with Sam Carter, a helicopter pilot, to pursue the alien life form {that takes on the form of those that it kills}.”
Again…that’s different how?? I really wouldn’t mind so much if the producers didn’t keep insisting that they are different. Is the idea to keep people arguing about it and therefore feel compelled to see the new one? Oh wait…Hmmmm…diabolical. Touche Universal, touche.
