More pics are coming off the set of Marc Forster’s film version of Max Brooks’  zombie apocalypse story World War Z. Shooting has moved from Malta to the Cornish coast of England and now up to Glasgow, which is doubling as the American city of Philadelphia.

As we told you way back in July (I know, seems like AGES ago!), Brad Pitt and his Plan B production company wrested the rights from Appian Way and Leonardo DiCaprio three years ago in 2008 for the rights to Brooks’ book. Now the ‘world’s most famous DILF’ (I love saying that and will say it every chance I get, so get used to it) stars as the main character, also called Max Brooks, (a fictionalized version of the author, who is the son of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft) who travels around the world, ten years after a planet wide zombie epidemic, on behalf of the United Nations, collecting and documenting stories from survivors of the battles against the zombie hoards. The epidemic is referred to as the titular World War Z that almost eradicated the human race.

The official synopsis: World War Z revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”

World War Z also stars Anthony Mackie, Mireille Enos (from AMC’s ‘The Killing’-woot!) as Lane’s wife Karen and James Badge Dale (from HBO’s ‘The Pacific’- double woot!). Matthew Fox has reportedly dropped out due to ‘scheduling conflicts’.

Forster is bringing one of the year’s most hotly anticipated films (by me), Machine Gun Preacher, with Gerard Butler, Michelle Monihan and Michael Shannon, to TIFF next month where it will get a RED CARPET GALA WORLD PREMIERE (any excuse to say that as well) ahead of its September 23 US release. It hits the UK on 18 November.  World War Z will storm into theaters December 12, 2012 (12122012. Must be a good number for zombies). In any case, I can’t wait!!

It was a bit of a challenge this week in finding a Friday fashionista.  In fact, I was ready to load the camera and hit the streets myself!

However, Pippa Middleton saved the day literally at the last minute  by ending her week late Friday night, along with boyfriend Alex Loudon,  partying at Public nightclub in London wearing this black pencil skirt and grey printed blouse topped with a dove grey leather jacket trimmed in gold metallic studs by British designer  Sara Berman.  (Berman’s trademark is studded collars and cuffs.)  The jacket retails for just under US$700.

I love the black and soft grey combination accessorized with metallic.  Definitely a hit!  What do you think, hit or miss?

The day after Russell Armstrong was found hanging in a friend’s home, his business associate also committed suicide TMZ is reporting.

Alan Schram was found in his vehicle outside of his Mulholland Drive home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was the managing partner of Wellcap (a hedge fund group) but also part of Tiger 21 which Russell belonged to (the two also became friends). Tiger 21 was a group of people, each with a very high net-worth.

Russell was apparently despondent over severe financial troubles, his upcoming divorce from Taylor Armstrong and an alleged upcoming tell-all book that was going to be explosive. Neither man left a suicide note.

Am I the only one who finds the suicide of Alan Schram the day after Russell Armstrong committed murder a bit strange? Something is ‘off’ here. Alan apparently did not have the financial troubles that Russell did (that we know of anyways) yet both men commit suicide a day apart. It makes me wonder if they were about to be outed as either lovers or involved in something sinister.

Here’s a new action packed clip from Killer Elite, this fall’s eagerly anticipated machismo-drenched bit of celluloid from first-time feature director Gary McKendry. The clip is called “Spike Chases Danny” and that pretty much says all you need to know. It’s 50 seconds of Jason Statham’s Danny running over rooftops etc while trying to elude Clive Owen’s Spike who continues to throw bullets at him.

I had to go to Facebook and “like” the movie in order to see the clip, which is all well and good, despite the fact that I hate being sent from one social media site (in this instance Twitter) to another in order to get some information, and usually when someone is trying to sell me something, in this case a movie ticket. Then when I clicked on the link to see the clip, I discovered it’s been posted to YouTube! Sheesh! I want my “like” back!

Oh well, marketing nimrods aside, I can not WAIT to see this movie! It stars Statham, Owen and Robert DeNiro and opens in the US and in the UK on 23 September – a date I already have circled in red on my calendar because that’s also when Machine Gun Preacher opens, however, Killer Elite will actually play near me on that date so it wins by default. I’ll have to wait for MGP to expand.

Real Steel is Hugh Jackman’s new movie for director Shawn Levy, whose past credits include Date Night, Night at the Museum (and its sequel), The Pink Panther, Cheaper by the Dozen and Just Married. (I’m tempted to stop right here. This guy is laughing all the way to the bank.) It won’t be playing the Toronto Film Festival. (Yes, I meant that just how it sounds) but Dreamworks has released this new featurette for the movie which gives you a little idea of what you can expect.  It gives you an idea of how they were able to make the robots look so ‘life-like’ (although without Andy Serkis, you might as well hang up your motion-capture suit. Accept no substitutes) as you’ll see in the featurette, using boxing legend, Sugar Ray Leonard as their technical advisor.

Okay, I finally get this. It’s kind of like that game my brother used to play, “Rock ‘Em Sock’Em Robots”, crossed with Rocky and every under-dog movie you’ve ever seen or heard of in your entire life. I’m betting there is at least one inspirational speech that Hugh has to deliver with a straight face. *sigh* The movie does have a great cast including Kevin Durand (Robin Hood), Evangeline Lilly (“Lost”), Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker), and Hope Davis (whose credits read more like the program for Sundance or the Independent Sprirt Awards. Apparently everyone has mortgage payments).

Real Steel will open in the US on October 7 in the US and 14 October in the UK.  imdbpro already has a listing for Real Steel 2 with a release date of 2014. You have been warned.

Minka Kelly and Derek Jeter have split after having been together for 3 years. Minka 31 is considered sexy hot to the point of making it as Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive and Jeter, 37 is a very desired New York Yankee. Neither of these two are going to have any trouble finding a date.

Their rep confirmed to People the sad (or happy depending on your position) news:

“They care about each other and it was amicable,” says a source. “They’re still friends.”

Blah, blah, blah. Are you friends with your exes? Me neither. They are exes for a reason and it’s rare to remain friends unless of course you have kids together and then it’s the right thing to do.

Minka is starring in the upcoming new series Charlie’s Angels and Derek, well he’ll keep on batting balls. The ultra private couple were rumoured to have been engaged at one time but that matters little now.
