Hilary Duff 23 and her husband Mike Comrie 30 have just announced that they are expecting their first baby! On top of that it also happens to be their first year wedding anniversary and the couple are celebrating this weekend in a big way.

The two were wed in a fairytale wedding last year after Mike proposed with a million-dollar diamond ring. Despite the opulence these two seem like the real deal.

Disney did WHAT? Apparently Disney has pulled the plug on a really big deal project. According to Deadline, The Lone Ranger that was supposed to be a tent-pole for the studio in the winter of 2012, has gone so far over the bottom line that Disney had set for it, they’ve shut it down entirely.

Johnny Depp had been signed (a long time ago waiting for this thing to get off the ground) to play Tonto and as recently as a month ago it was announced that one of the Winklevi (okay actually both them) Armie Hammer, had been chosen as the Lone Ranger himself and Ruth Wilson (“Luther”) had just been added as the female lead. Jerry Bruckheimer was producing, Gore Verbinski was directing. This is the combination that made billions for Disney with The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which makes the decision all the more mystifying. Apparently the studio only wanted to spend $200 million, but even after slashing $20 million from the budget, the price tag was still hovering around $230 million. When you’re talking numbers like that, $20 million doesn’t seem like a lot, but then neither does the difference between $200 and $230 million. I think we’re all jaded after listening to the government bandy about numbers in the TRILLIONS so much lately.

Part of their financial apprehension comes from the cost-overruns on John Carter, due out in March. That one cost inexcess of $300 million. It had better be damn good to justify that! Pulling the plug on The Lone Ranger is just another sign that the economy has affected even one of the more robust industries we still have left.

In the meantime, there is talk of retooling The Lone Ranger and perhaps evntually rebooting the production, which had been counting on the presence of Depp to lure ticket buyers. They should probably hurry. That’s guy’s booked solid. There are 15 more titles in various stages of production with his name attached. I wouldn’t worry too much about Depp in any case. I’m sure he’s got a “pay or play” clause in his contract (which means he gets paid no matter what.) Armie might be a little too new to the game to warrant one of those, but he’s already got another high profile gig, playing the Prince to Lily Collins’ Snow White in Tarsem Singh’s Untitled Snow White Project. (I think that’s what they should call it.)

Two of my absolute favorite sexy gay guys, Adam Lambert and Ross Matthews were at last night’s 2011 Equality Awards held in Los Angeles where it looked like Adam was about to lay one one Kathy Griffin. That lucky biotch. Adam brought his boyfriend to the awards and I must say they are quite the cute couple.

Do you watch Chelsea Lately? I love that show, but I love it the most when Ross Matthews is on it. He is amazing. Even my mom loves that guy large. He is so funny! In case the E! network is asleep at that time, they really should take notice of the audience reaction when Ross is on. PLEASE give this guy his own show! It would be a hit. He is so charming, so funny and so effing lovable!

According to Deadline, actor Jonny Weston has been cast as surfing legend Jay Moriarty in LA Confidential director Curtis Hanson’s upcoming Mavericks. Gerard Butler will play Moriarty’s mentor, Rick “Frosty” Hesson, who taught Moriarty to surf the dangerous Mavericks area of the the Northern California coast, with waves reportedly as high as a five-story building, at just 16.

Weston, who is already a surfer (unlike his co-star) is in final negotiations for the role. With only a couple of tv credits under his belt, the twenty-two year old former model currently as five films in post-production for release later this year and early 2012, one of which isCherry with James Franco, Heather Graham and Lilly Taylor, and Don (Phantasm) Coscarelli’s John Dies at the End with Paul Giamatti, Clancy Brown and of course, Angus Scrimm, so chances are, if you don’t know who he is now, you soon will.

Butler, meanwhile, has been learning to surf and whittling away at his body to look good in the wetsuit. All those concerned about the state of his health can stand down. I’m sure it’s a lot easier to stand up on a surfboard when you weigh less rather than more.  I predict as soon as filming wraps he’ll grab a cupcake and someone else will grab the barber shears, although I think we know where I stand on the hair. (grrrrr)

Mavericks is set to begin filming in October for a 2012 release.

Dancing With The Stars’ Brooke Burke 39, and her long-time love David Charvet 39, finally tied the knot on Friday in St. Barts. The couple had been engaged for 5 years and have 2 children together son Shaya 3 and daughter and daughter Rain 4-1/2. She also has 2 girls from her first marriage Sierra and Neriah who are 9 and 11 respectively. Her rep confirmed the fabulous news, but the newly Mrs. Charvet tweeted this morning:

Entertainment Weekly has released the first official pics of Leonard DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover in director Clint Eastwood’s biopic simply titled, J. Edgar.

I say official because there had been some grainy pap shots that had bubbled to the surface practically since filming began late last year. Leo’s baby blues weren’t brown in those pics, so I thought that they’d do that in post rather than have him wear contacts, but in other shots they do appear brown. So what do I know?

As head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a department of the U.S. Government that he helped to create out of the post-war ashes of the OSS, J. Edgar Hoover was the symbol of American law enforcement for nearly 50 years. He assembled a cohesive, cooperative federal enforcement agency that advanced the use of forensic evidence, especially fingerprints. He was also hated as much as he was admired. His abuses of power are now legendary, including the manipulation and blackmail of elected officials, wiretapping and the intimidation of, most famously, civil rights leaders.  ”…behind closed doors, he held secrets that would have destroyed his image, his career and his life.” J. Edgar tells the story of this dichotomy.

Also in the cast are Dame Judi Dench as Hoover’s mother Anne Marie, Armie Hammer as Clyde Tolson, Hoover’s friend, ally, constant companion and perhaps lover (the movie is leaving it open to interpretation), Josh Lucas (who I grow more enamored of all the time) as Charles Lindbergh, Naomie Watts (in a role that was originally cast with Charlize Theron) as Helen Gandy, Hoover’s secretary for fifty-four years and  Jeffrey “Burn Notice” Donovan as Robert F. Kennedy.
