Paramount Vantage has released a new trailer for the 2011 Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner for Best Picture, Like Crazy. (Not to be confused with the film of a similar name starring Bill Nighy, Billy Connolly and Stephen Rhea about aging rock stars, which I did for a long time. OMG I’m turning into my mother!) Like Crazy is about first love and all its attendant joys and miseries, further complicated by separation and long-distance.  It stars Anton Yelchin, soon to be seen in the Fright Night remake, and winner of the Sundance Special Jury Prize for Best Actress, Felicity Jones (The Tempest, Cemetery Junction, Cheri) and Jennifer Lawrence. (It seems weird to see her with someone of her own age since Yelchin looks younger and Lawrence’s last on-screen hookup was Michael Fassbender in X-Men: First Class).

This is is one of those trailers that lays it all out there. After watching, you know who the players are, what the film is about and apparently what the arc is. When the story involved is a good one and the leads charming and the performances gripping, then you still want to take the ride even though you know where it’s going to end up. Like Crazy looks refreshingly sweet, straightforward and honest; a tale well told. This is a ride I want to take.

Written and directed by Drake Doremus (Spooner), Like Crazy also stars Charlie Bewley, Alex Kingston, Finola Hughes and Chris Messina. It will be released in the US on October 28 and on 3 February 2012 in the UK.

True Blood has been renewed for a fifth season thanks to the obviously smart suits at HBO.  Twelve more episodes have been ordered (thank you jesus) and that means another season of nudity and vampire sex.  Allan Ball says of the decision:

“I remain amazed and delighted by the enthusiasm of our viewers,” “I can’t imagine having more fun than this.”

Nor can we. Did you watch Sunday’s episode? Did you see all the sex Snooki and Eric had? It was very tender and erotic. Who would ever imagine that from Eric, especially given earlier seasons’ sex scenes where we witnessed him having rough sex (as did Snooki). Not that there is anything wrong with that *cough*.

Season 4 ends on September 11 and the show is proving to be even more popular than last season up 6% to 5.4 million viewers.

Do you watch? Prior to season 4 my husband and I did a marathon of seasons 1-3 and I have to admit  that the first two shows I was like ‘why is this so popular’. I would never have thought it would have taken place in the South. But if you stick with it, it is WORTH it! What a great show.

Nucky’s head is spinning! HBO has released a trailer for season two of its brilliant series “Boardwalk Empire”. (It’s amazing to me after thirty five years, they’re still the best game in town and consistently set the bar for every other premium cable network. You’d think they’d have been able to teach broadcast networks a thing or two by now.)

Man o’ Man my Fall is filling up fast! How can I watch television (I know, it’s not television, it’s HBO) when I’m going to be at the theater every waking moment? I suppose I have to make time to actually work too! Well, the dvr is definitely going to see some action. I was already all in for this show, but now I’m buzzing!

This trailer encapsulates the world of Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi, looking particularly cadaverous), and turns a leisurely walk along his beloved boardwalk into a walking nightmare. Every character who plagued him or gave him cause for concern in the first season makes an appearance, with particular attention paid to those that are sure to feature prominently in the second, namely his brother Eli Thompson (Shea Whigham), his erstwhile protege Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt), the already lethal Al Capone (Stephen Graham) and the long suffering Margaret Schroeder (Kelly Macdonald). I did not see Michael Shannon’s Agent Van Alden, but he was probably unavailable on trailer day due to previous commitments.

Season 2 of “Boardwalk Empire” premieres on September 25 where else but HBO.

True Blood’s sexy shifter Sam Trammell 42, and his girlfriend Missy Yager 43, welcomed twin boys on August 9th Life and Style is reporting. A source revealed:

“The couple is very happy that everything went smoothly,”

The two have been together for about 8 years after meeting in New York on Broadway and this is the first children for both of them.

There’s a new trailer for the new sci-fi creepfest Apollo 18. This one’s called “Classified” and in my humble opinion that title puts the frightening fact that there’s a dead body, a Russian dead body, on the moon into chilling Cold War perspective. I’m always more creeped out by paranoid political conspiracies than fictional creatures anyway. Maybe it’s just me and I’m reading too much into it. I have to say, until this trailer, I wasn’t much interested in Apollo 18. Now I’m intrigued.

Produced by Wanted and the upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter‘s Timur Bekmambetov, Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego’s film involves the discovery of decades-old footage from NASA’s abandoned Apollo 18 mission, where two American astronauts were sent on a secret expedition, and reveals the reason the U.S. has never returned to the moon. Sounds spooky already, no? I keep hearing the tagline from Alien in my head “In space, no one can hear you scream”.

Apollo 18 Synopsis: Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 17th, 1972, was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later, in December of 1973, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.

Originally slated for an April 2011 release, The Weinstein Company will now unleash Apollo 18 upon the world on September 2.
