New Poster for The Adventures of TinTin!

New Poster for The Adventures of TinTin!

“What secrets do you hold?”

Dreamworks has released, via the movie’s Facebook page, another new poster for Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin. This one defiintely puts the focus on the ‘adventure’, rather than Tintin as some sophisticated world traveler. There’s an old fashioned galleon with what appear to be holes made from canon-fire in the sails, a biplane and what can only be the results of a shipwreck. Maybe the ship being shelled with canon-fire. Whatd’ya think? The disembodied heads are a little odd. Are those Tintin’s guardian angels? (Actually it’s Captain Haddock, and Inspectors Thompson and Thomson) This poster is also brighter and more colorful. I love the look of what we’ve seen of this film. All I can think of is  ‘burnished-comic book’. The images all seem imbued with a soft golden glow that just seems friendlier than your typical animated or even motion-capture film. The technology has certainly moved light years away from The Polar Express, which was kind of scary. If I were a little kid seeing that movie, I’d have nightmares.

A short synopsis: Tintin and his friends discover the map to a sunken ship commanded by Capt. Haddock’s ancestor and go off on a treasure hunt.

I’m really looking forward to this. Steven Moffat (“Dr. Who”, “Sherlock”), Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs the World) and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) are all writers that seem to have a good handle on the current zeitgeist but also a healthy respect for history, both real and cinematic. I can’t wait to hear what words they’ve put into the mouths of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost yet again and in particular.

The rest of the cast includes Daniel Craig, Andy Serkis, Toby Jones, Cary Elwes, Tony Curran, Daniel Mays and Jamie Bell as Tintin. The Adventures of Tintin hits the UK on 26 October and the US & Canada on December 23.

First Images of Catwoman!

First Images of Catwoman!

Thanks to Warner Brothers, we have our first official look at Anne Hathaway as Catwoman/Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises! Woot! I’ve been waiting for this, as I know you have. We’ve been getting a lot of Bane, and don’t get me wrong, I think my position on Tom Hardy is very clear (I wish. Oh if I weren’t a lady, just what wouldn’t I say?), but if the paps are going to deluge us with set pics, let’s change it up a bit people!

Below we have a couple of pics from Hathaway on the set of The Dark Knight Rises yesterday as filming continues in and around Pittsburgh. She spent most of the time shooting interior scenes so the getup she’s wearing as she talks to crew members is street clothes. We also have a couple of pics of Marion Cotilliard as Miranda Tate. She’s supposedly Bruce Wayne’s love interest. Does that mean Catwoman will be Batman’s? Can we expect a catfight?

The Dark Knight Rises stars, of course, Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Hathaway, Cotilliard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson. Shooting continues in Pittsburgh for the next few weeks then moves lord-knows-where, probably somewhere director Christopher Nolan can get cast and crew away from the paps.

A couple of these pics may or may not be Anne Hathaway’s stunt double.

Gerard Butler Brings The Awkward To Hollywood Foreign Press Luncheon PHOTOS

Gerard Butler Brings The Awkward To Hollywood Foreign Press Luncheon PHOTOS

Gerard Butler brings the awkward to yesterday’s 2011 Hollywood Foreign Press Association Luncheon held at The Beverly Hills Hotel. Now before you send me hate mail and death threats (and get your panties in a bunch assuming they are still on at this point), what I mean is his stance is very awkward in this photo. Clearly it’s but a moment in time but it’s kind of funny. And awkward.

I’m not sure how I feel about his hair. He’s growing it out and it looks like it got lighter. Perhaps it was from being out in the sun in Italy this past summer, but I’m not sure if it’s working for me. Is it working  for you? What I don’t like is he doesn’t seem very happy. Maybe he misses me, I dunno.

Below the neck I have to say mommy likes. Gerard Butler is looking most delicious and cut. The color of that suit makes his eyes pop and my panties drop.

Friday’s Fabulous Fashionista is: Paula Abdul

Friday's Fabulous Fashionista is: Paula Abdul

When I first saw this picture of Paula Abdul, all I could say was “Wow”.  Paula Abdul proves that some looks never go out of style with this classic white blouse / black trouser combination with up-to-date accessories.  (Perhaps it’s my love for all things Chanel.)  The woman exudes confidence and sophistication.

With her pants so form-fitting it’s hard to say where she’s hidden the junk, if she has any that is!  In her purse perhaps?  In all seriousness, for a woman that just turned 49 in June, she proves that she could teach us all a few things about style and dressing age-appropriate.  I bet Simon Cowell is in that car behind her with his eyeballs glued to her rear view.

You rocked it woman!

New Poster for Bunraku!

New Poster for Bunraku!

Last month we showed you a few images and a trailer for Guy Moshe’s gangster/samurai mashup Bunraku. It looks just weird enough to be fun and interesting. I may have mentioned that the reason this particular film is on my radar is that it costars Kevin McKidd. Put McKidd in it and I’ll buy a ticket. Of course he’s not in it alone.  The cast also includes Josh Hartnett, Woody Harrelson, Gackt, Ron Perlman and Demi Moore.

Okay, so now we have a nice new poster. I hate it! Where’s the McKidd? His name is on it. He has fourth billing, right behind Gackt (sorry but that name has me picturing Berke Breathed’s cat Bill coughing up a hairball-no offense) and right before Ron Perlman. Gackt made the poster and so did ole Ron. Where’s the McKidd??

Was he absent on poster day again, like he was when they shot the poster for Trainspotting all the way back in 1996? Maybe it’s a thing. He plans to never be on a poster for any movie he’s involved in ever again. Seriously. Look at his list of credits on imdb. He’s on the poster for Small Faces, also from ’96 and there’s a cartoon version of him for Bedrooms and Hallways (1998). It might be him on the poster for16 Years of Alcohol (2003), but it’s hard to tell. “Anna Karenina” doesn’t count. It wasn’t a theatrical release. And dvd covers don’t count either. Other than that…nuthin’. McKidd needs a starring role and he needs his kisser on a poster. Make it so number one…

Bunraku, which is the form of Japanese theater involving puppets with giant heads, takes place in  a world with no guns, where a mysterious drifter, a bartender and a young samurai plot revenge against a ruthless leader and his army of thugs, headed by nine diverse and deadly assassins.

First Poster for A Dangerous Method Is Pretty Tame

First Poster for A Dangerous Method Is Pretty Tame

I realize that any expression meant to convey my complete lack of enthusiasm for the first poster for David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, could be met with derision by the interweb movers and shakers and arbiters of all things hip, but…meh.

I mean really. I understand that there may have been a rush to get this out for the Venice International Film Festival, since it is in Italian and it has the VFF logo in the upper right hand corner (my right, poster’s left), but this film has been in the can for a year! Are we honestly expected to believe that no one associated with marketing the film, in particular Sony Classics (although to be fair they’ve only had it for a couple of months), could have, at any time, come up with something better?

This is merely the heads of its three principal players, Viggo Mortensen, Keira Knightley and Michael Fassbender. And Knightley is not only front and center with the other two peering over her shoulders as if they were in a bad rom-com, but bigger! What the hell? She even gets first billing in the trailer. She may be playing the character who comes between the two pioneers of modern psychiatry, but I don’t think Knightley is the selling point here. I’m not going to see it so that I can see Miss Keira’s bony ass being disciplined, I’ll be going to see it because it’s Michael Fassbender doling out the discipline. And I won’t be alone. I’ll wager the audience for this movie is going to 75% female. (Oh and why is no one talking about Vincent Cassel in this multi-layered Viennese torte of a movie?)

A Dangerous Method revolves around the relationship between Carl Jung (Fassbender) and Sabina Spielrein (Knightley), a Russian Jew who is first his patient and then his lover. While she does come between Jung and Sigmund Freud, his mentor (Mortensen), the relationship also serves as the basis for much of his writings and research into what eventually becomes known as Jungian psychoanalysis. All of which may sound dry as hell until you see the trailer. Holy Schnikey! “Sometimes you have to do something unforgivable, just to go on living.” *swoon*

A Dangerous Method follows an in-competition screening in Venice with another one in Toronto before opening in the US in January and the UK in February 2012.
