Well, the movie looks lush anyway. These are new stills from the period drama Bel Ami, Robert Pattinson’s latest post-Twilight gig. RPatz, as he’s known to friends and admirers, stars as Georges Duroy, a man of modest means who basically sleeps his way through Parisian high-society during the period known as La Belle Epoque (the age so wistfully described by Marion Cotilliard in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris.) The women in question are Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci, so hopefully this one will draw a more mature audience than his sparkly vampire role. Although, who am I kidding? Those emo-vamp flicks didn’t make bazillions from the babysitting cash of tweens alone. Therefore, this one has a huge built-in audience. IMHO. The set design and the costumes are enough to get me into the theater.

In any case, knowing the cash cow they’ve got in their picture, the producers of Bel Ami have released some gorgeous new stills of Patz and his bedroom eyes either making out, about to make out, post-make out and finally getting hitched, with a lucky woman. Oh and then there’s one with who I can only assume to be the director. (Actually the movie has two credited directors, Nick Oremerod and Declan Donnellan. I have no idea which of the two that is.) I just threw that in there because it was part of the package. I’m sure it will appeal to someone. (I don’t judge) Actually I’m not one of those that swoons at the mention of this guy but I can enable with the best of ‘em.  Enjoy the pics girls (or whoever…)

Bel Ami is based on a novel by Guy de Maupassant and has been filmed seven times before, dating all the way back to 1919 (although four of those were for French television.) Since this movie STILL has no release dates, I’m thinking we can probably look forward to more wee gifties like this in the hopes that they will drum up some enthusiasm for the film. Just a theory.

Beyonce stole the show last night at the 2011 MTV VMAs not only on the red carpet where she showed off her baby bump, but when she performed. I loved how at the end she dropped the microphone and rubbed her tummy.

Jay-Z couldn’t be a prouder pappa.  He and Kanye West were so happy and if I saw correctly, Jay-Z looked to have a tear or two in his eyes.

Beyonce is totally glowing and looks amazing. Congrats again to the happy couple. Watch her incredible performance.

Last night the 2011 MTV VMAs took place in Los Angeles and it offered a lot of colourful outfits! So let’s start with the most outrageous outfit which is none other than Nicki Minaj who looks like she raided Justin Beiber’s toy chest.

Staying true to her playful style is Katy Perry in an Asian-inspired frock with matching parasol and Jimmy Choo sandals.

I’m all for taking fashion risks and I think somehow Selena Gomez managed to do that successfully in a gothic-style Julien McDonald Gown.   Quite a departure from what we’re used to seeing her wear.  So kudos to you girl!

Congratulations to Beyonce who shows off her baby bump in a heavenly single shoulder orange Lanvin gown.

Biggest disappointments include Britney Spears and Katie Holmes who, I’m sorry folks (including Anne who hearts Britney bad), just didn’t dazzle.  I was expecting more from Brittney.  After all, she was being honored last night with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

As for Jessie J, she looked like she ran away to join the circus and got off at the wrong stop.   However, her silver and black crutches were in keeping with the fashion last night.  As for the girls of Jersey Shore who showed up in a collection of shimmering dresses, sorry, too many lady parts popping out there.

Although metallics and all things that glitter ruled the night, Demi Lovato brought the right stuff to the black carpet in a silver body hugging low neckline dress.   I just love the way her beautiful brunette waves contrasted her dress.

My top pick for the night:  Victoria  Justice.   No overkill here.  She rocked it in this metal-fringed Theia mini dress accompanied with metallic pumps and clutch.

The Sitter is the new David Gordon Green comedy starring Jonah Hill that is generating a lot of buzz for its red band trailer. And make no mistake it is definitely NSFW unless work is a strip club (again, I don’t judge) or you have headphones. You can see it below, along with the green band version. That’s the version I saw at a theater a couple of weeks ago and was mildly amused. You decide which is better.

Director David Gordon Green is responsible for the brilliant, quirky little indies like George Washington and All the Real Girls. He took a serious turn in Snow Angels, a drama about a teenager, his old baby sitter, her estranged husband, and their daughter, and what happens at the intersection of those lives,with Sam Rockwell and Kate Beckinsale and which I absolutely loved. Then Hollywood got a hold of him and his next films were Pineapple Express and Your Highness. If you haven’t seen what came before those last two, you might not be as puzzled as I am. They certainly have their supporters, but frankly, I didn’t find either of them all that funny. (I don’t “get” the appeal of Danny McBride for one and Paul Schneider was missing from both of them for another.) He’s also got 14 other titles in development so he must be doing something right.

The Sitter is about a college student (Jonah Hill) on suspension who needs a job and is coaxed into babysitting the kids next door, though he is fully unprepared for the wild night ahead of him. Sounds kind of like Adventures in Babysitting for the new millennium, no? Of course it will be a lot more funny if the babysitter is a guy this time. Equal opportunity and all that. Personally, I only laughed out loud when the little girl sprayed perfume in Hill’s mouth…twice.

The Sitter stars Hill along with Sam Rockwell, Ari Graynor (who were both wonderful in Conviction, which I finally saw), Jessica Hecht, D. W. Moffett, J. B. Smoove and Method Man and will open December 9. Kind of like an early Christmas present.

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting tired of Shia LaBeouf and his antics. He comes across as this cocky little sh*t of a know-it-all that knows nothing.

The latest antic was he had a meltdown at a party in which he spit water on Marilyn Manson. In what hemisphere is that even acceptable (and no, I do not care for Marilyn Manson). How much of a lunatic do you have to be to stoop to that level?

Apparently Shia was at a party in Los Angeles with girlfriend Karolyn Pho and Marilyn Manson. According to an eyewitness:

“Shia picked up a water bottle and shot a mouthful of water all over his date’s legs,” says the eyewitness. “Then he put more water in his mouth and started spitting it all over his tablemates, including Marilyn Manson.”

Marilyn tried to play the situation down but then Shia just lost it and was climbing over people to get out of the bar:

“Marilyn looked shocked and annoyed, but stayed seated,” adds the eyewitness.

“It was so insane — he just had a total meltdown right in front of everyone. It was completely out of control. He was so angry and physical.”

Apparently his date ran after him. I can’t imagine why. Some things are worth letting go of. Someone who spits water on you in public is one of those things.

You know you have to take everything you hear with a grain of salt, but if this is in fact true, this little freak of a monkey is out of control and needs to get his ego in check.

A new clip has come online from Gavin O’Connor’s Warrior. It’s a scene between Joel Edgerton’s Brendan and his wife Tessa, played by Jennifer Morrison, called “Not Going Back”. Brendan is trying to convince his worried wife that returning to the “ring” is the only way he knows to save their house and their family. This movie finally opens in theaters in less than two weeks, on September 9th and I can’t urge you strongly enough to see it.

Hardy and Edgerton are nothing short of mesmerizing from start to finish. Especially Hardy, in my opinion. Edgerton has the (slightly) bigger role, but I’d be hard pressed to say which was the heart and which was the soul of the film. They are both such incredibly strong performances that one without the other would not have been as good.

I’m not sure what else I can tell you about Warrior at this point. I have to give Lionsgate kudos for their efforts in promoting this film. It sat on a shelf for nearly two years waiting for distribution and after they stepped up, they did so in a big and committed way. Hardy and Edgerton have been tireless. Even though they’re also in the middle of filming other projects, they are out there stumping for this movie. Jennifer Morrison has done her part as well. The only one I haven’t seen at a single promotional event, and he is definitely conspicuous by his absence, is Nick Nolte. He’s getting excellent advance notices for his role as Paddy Conlon. Does he just not do PR? Is he under house arrest when he isn’t filming? It’s just odd. It will be interesting to see whether or not he finds his way to any chat shows in the next couple of weeks.
