First Clip and Pics from The Deep Blue Sea!

Oh I have been waiting for this! Finally a clip from Terence Davies film version of Terrence Rattigan’s play, The Deep Blue Sea, starring Rachel Weisz and Tom Hiddleston.

I’m on record as being a big fan of Mrs. Craig and this movie, her fifth to be unveiled in some way, shape or form within a two month period, a period piece set in London during WWII, looks smart and lush and utterly romantic.  Weisz plays a suicidal woman named Hester Collyer, the wife of a High Court judge, who begins having an affair with a Royal Air Force pilot (Hiddleston).

The clip doesn’t tell us a lot about the plot, but it’s beautifully lit, the music, Jo Stafford’s versuion of “You Belong to Me”, is wonderful and it is terribly romantic. The music cuts off rather suddenly at the end, so there is probably more to this scene, but it’s something and I’ll take it,  for now. The Deep Blue Sea is playing at the Toronto International Film Festival later this month, and the San Sebastian Film Festival then will close the BFI London Film Festival in October, but doesn’t yet have a US distributor or a release date. I’m thinking that will change during the festival markets.
