Clooney! Gosling! Four New Clips from The Ides of March!

Earnest New Poster for Clooney's The Ides of March!

One of the most hotly anticipated films of fall is The Ides of March, a political thriller starring gorgeous George Clooney and Ryan Gosling. Ides is directed by Clooney, and co-written by Clooney, Grant Heslov, and Beau Willimon based on Willimon’s play, "Farragut North".

The synopsis: “During the frantic last days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary, an up-and-coming campaign press secretary (Ryan Gosling) finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate’s shot at the presidency.”

The Ides of March also stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti, and Evan Rachel Wood, all of whom can be seen in the clips below (courtesy of Collider.com). If these don't whet your appetite for this film, it's probably not your cuppa. Personally, I can't wait!

The Ides of March opens in  the US and Canada on October 7 and in the UK on 28 October.

First Trailer for Burning Man with Matthew Goode!

First Trailer for Burning Man with Matthew Goode!

Transmission Films has released a trailer for festival favorite, Burning Man, and no it's not a documentary about the hipster music festival held every year in the Nevada desert. Directed by Australian filmmaker Jonathan Teplitzky, it's about an English chef with a chic restaurant on Bondi Beach (in Sydney, Australia) trying to put his life and his relationship with his son back on track while surrounded by women.  Judging from the trailer, that's a rather simplistic description. It's also been described as  a reckless, sexy, provocative and ultimately tear-jerking father and son tale. That's more like it.

Burning Man stars Matthew Goode. I like this guy.  If you're wondering where you've seen him before, he had a small role as Colin Firth's doomed lover in A Single Man, he was Charles Ryder in the recent screen version of Brideshead Revisited with Hayley Atwell and of course, he was Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias in Zack Snyder's Watchmen, but I've been waiting for him to appear in something worthy of his talents. If anyone sees this, it could be his breakout role.

Burning Man also stars Rachel Griffiths, Essie Davis, Gia Carides, Kerry Fox (four fantastic Australian actresses) and Bojana Novakovic, a Serbian I've never seen before, but she's gorgeous. If she can act, I suspect we'll see a lot more of her. The film debuted at TIFF a couple of weeks ago, to great acclaim. Hopefully that will lead to some release information beyond the October dates for Australia and New Zealand. Stay tuned.

Jennifer Aniston Spends $450 K on Painting at Auction

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux In NYC Being Over Brad Pitt (PHOTOS)

Jennifer Aniston and boyfriend Justin Theroux attended Christie's Auction House in New York where they purchased a 6 foot tall painting of Glenn Ligon's "Stranger #44 for $450,000! It's 'charcoal and graphite on canvas'. One would think for $450,000 it should be gold or platinum but it's charcoal. I'm going to mosey on over to my fireplace, grab a piece of charcoal and make something pretty for Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux.

The killer in all this is that the painting was estimated to be worth $150,000 to $200,000! So basically Jen paid double its value. I remember watching a program on TV (can not recall which one) in which someone was saying that he has his own money (despite the fact none of us had heard of him prior to him hooking up with Jennifer Aniston). I just hope he doesn't bleed her dry and is a gold digging biotch.

Apparently Justin did the bidding for Jennifer and when he won she clapped 'enthusiastically'. The good part in all this is the proceeds are to help raise money for Artists For Haiti.

Sam Worthington is a Man On A Ledge!

Sam Worthington is a Man On A Ledge!

We have an intense first poster and an intense and yet seemingly spoiler-filled trailer for Asger Leth's Man on a Ledge starring Sam Worthington. I say seemingly because, to me this bears a great deal of resemblance to F. Gary Gray's under-rated, The Negotiator, complete with Elizabeth Banks (in the Kevin Spacey role) being asked to believe in Worthington's innocence. Of course, whatever's going on with Jamie Bell and his crew is the real hook.

Synopsis: An ex-cop and now wanted fugitive stands on the ledge of a high-rise building while a hard-living New York Police Department negotiator tries to talk him down. The longer they are on the ledge, the more she realizes that he might have an ulterior objective.

Man on a Ledge is director Leth's feature debut and stars Worthington, Banks and Bell along with Anthony Mackie,Edward Burns, William Sadler, Kyra Sedgwick and Ed Harris (looking particularly creepy). It opens in theaters January 13 in the US and 27 January in the UK.

First Trailer for Big Miracle with Drew Barrymore!

First Trailer for Big Miracle with Drew Barrymore!

The trailer for Big Miracle aims right for the heart and wants to reduce us all to a big blubbering mess. Based on a true story of an Alaskan town that banded together to save a family of whales trapped under the ice, the film is directed by Ken Kwapis (He's Not That Into You) and stars Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski, Stephen Root, Ted Danson, Tim Blake Nelson, Vinessa Shaw and James LeGros.

Synopsis: Inspired by the true story that captured the hearts of people across the world, the rescue adventure Big Miracle tells the amazing tale of a small town news reporter (Krasinski) and a Greenpeace volunteer (Barrymore) who are joined by rival world superpowers to save a family of majestic gray whales trapped by rapidly forming ice in the Arctic Circle. Local newsman Adam Carlson can’t wait to escape the northern tip of Alaska for a bigger market. But just when the story of his career breaks, the world comes chasing it, too. With an oil tycoon, heads of state and hungry journalists descending upon the frigid outpost, the one who worries Adam the most is Rachel Kramer (Barrymore). Not only is she an outspoken environmentalist, she’s also his ex-girlfriend. With time running out, Rachel and Adam must rally an unlikely coalition of Inuit natives, oil companies and Russian and American military to set aside their differences and free the whales. As the world’s attention turns to the top of the globe, saving these endangered animals becomes a shared cause for nations entrenched against one another and leads to a momentary thaw in the Cold War.

Big Miracle opens in the US on February 3 and 10 February in the UK.
