Fassy Brings Shame to TIFF! (PHOTOS)

Fassy Brings Shame to TIFF!

Fresh from his Best Actor win at the Venice Film Festival, Michael Fassbender jumped a plane to make an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Steve McQueen’s Shame. He missed out on the premiere of his other TIFF contender, David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, to stick around for the prize-giving on the Lido but did make it in time for the screening of the film for which he won the award.

Shame was greeted with much the same sort of enthusiasm in Toronto that it met with in Venice, which should come as no surprise. The Venice/TIFF overlap can often up the buzz on a film coming straight from one festival to the other. By all accounts the film lives up to the hype. So can we expect a repeat? No. TIFF does not have a jury and is non-competitive.  Awards handed out at other festivals for categories such as “Best Actress” or “Best Film” do not exist at the Toronto International Film Festival. The major prize is the People’s Choice Award and is given to a feature-length film with the highest ratings as voted by the movie goers at the festival. (Last year’s winner of that prize was The King’s Speech.)

Serena Williams Cited For Verbal Abuse

Serena Williams Cited For Verbal Abuse

Serena Williams apparently had an ‘outburst’ on Sunday at the U.S. open over a b.s. call from the ref and is being cited for verbal abuse after Serena said to the ref:

“If you ever see me walking down the hall, look the other way because you’re out of control. You’re a hater and you’re unattractive inside. Who would do such a thing? Wow.”

Seriously watch the video on TMZ. This is hardly an ‘outburst’. I think given the circumstances Serena Williams handled herself very well. There was no swearing, no hissy fit. As TMZ points out John McEnroe used to have MELT-DOWNS.

I don’t  think Serena’s tone was threatening or anything. She was pissed off and she should have been. Apparently this is going to go to the Tournament Grand Slam Committee to decide if there should be any discipline. Bitches I will lose my sh*t and burn my bras and undies if she gets disciplined over that. People are allowed to speak up and that’s all she was doing.

What do you think? Is Serena justified in being pissed? Do you think she went too far with what she said?

By the way she lost to Samantha Stosur.

Four Blinds, Two Are DISTURBING and Two Are Not Really That Shocking

Four Blinds, Two Are DISTURBING and Two Are Not Really That Shocking

It’s Monday and like all Mondays it’s kind of blah, right? Well hopefully these blinds from Gawker will add some excitement to your Monday, although I must say two of them are very disturbing with number 2 being the most disturbing of all. Number 4 is kind of obvious although she denied it on Twitter (and a post was done on this site about it) but it’s disturbing because of the company she keeps.

Blind number 1 and 3, while not my thing is all between consenting adults so who can judge, right?

1. ”This former A+ comic movie actor and now still one in his mind, but probably just a B never speaks to this other A list movie actor. The reason? Although they both go both ways, they love guys the most and fought over one guy in particular who actually ended up going with neither of them because they both would not stop bugging him.” [CDaN]

2. ”Apparently Russian mobsters are out in force this week and were also at Paris Fashion Week. They basically threaten every Eastern European model with bodily harm unless the model gives up almost everything they make during the shows. When one A++ list designer was told about the troubling trend, he said, ‘Why should I care about them? I have a show to do. The show is about my designs and the models are secondary. If one of my models gets hurt, I can find another one in a second.’” [CDaN]

3. ”This foreign born actress is probably a B-/C+ here although she did star in one of the highest grossing movies ever. Mostly though her work has been done in her native country so most of us would need subtitles. Anyway, she is married. She also has a boyfriend. This sounds so Tilda Swinton. I wonder if this is more common in Europe. Anyway, she brought both of them to a premiere and was asked about them and she said something to the effect of when I don’t feel like sex or am out of town they enjoy each other and when I am hope we all have each other.” [CDaN]

4. ”There are lots of rumors flying as to why this famous performer is switching professional teams. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not because she is jealous that another performer that the company reps is getting more attention than her. It’s because she and her e-boss got into a huge fight about her personal life. You see, her former company did more than make her a professional success. When the performer ran into some serious trouble with an old beau, the company did everything possible to protect her and get her personal and professional life back on track. They exhibited tremendous loyalty to her to the point of alienating others in the industry. And what does she do to thank them? Make questionable videos and try to get back together with the beau who almost ruined her career. Both of these actions are real slaps in the face to those at the top of their game who worked so hard to build and protect her career. So they let her go. You can’t manage someone who is so determined to undermine her own success.” [Blind Gossip]

Charlie Sheen Got Roasted (PHOTOS)

Charlie Sheen Got Roasted (PHOTOS)

Charlie Sheen (who looks so much healthier than at the height of his issues) got roasted at Comedy Central at the Sony Studios in Los Angeles Saturday night by the likes of Seth MacFarlane (the host of the roast), Jon Lovitz, Jeffrey Ross, Mike Tyson and even Private Practice star Kate Walsh. It would have been pretty awesome to have Lisa Lampanelli there, however she was already booked for a show and couldn’t get out of it. She tweeted that she plans on roasting him on Twitter during the broadcast.

Charlie Sheen is a pretty easy target for one of these roasts so you can imagine what the jokes touched on: drugs, prostitutes, and of course the very-public firing from Two and A Half Men.

You can watch the edited version of the roast on September 19 which also happens to be the night that the new Two and A Half Men premieres. Like that was a coincidence?

Some of the barbs:

Jon Lovitz:  How much blow can Charlie Sheen do? Enough to kill two and a half men,”

Jeffrey Ross“Don’t you want to live to see your kids take their first 12 steps?” ”Charlie… If you’re winning, this must not be a child custody hearing. The only time your kids get to see you is in reruns,”

Kate Walsh took a jab at not only Charlie Sheen, but the show’s host Seth MacFarlane:

“The only difference between [Seth] and the hooker Charlie locked in the closet is the hooker eventually came out.”

“It’s amazing, despite all those years of abusing your lungs, your kidneys and your liver, the only thing you’ve had removed is your kids.”

But you know, Charlie is a big boy and he can take it:

“Until tonight I never realized how f***ed up I was. I just thought I was having fun.” He then shot back at the roasters, including Walsh, saying “I don’t know anybody who watches your show, because I date woman who can still get their period.”

“Once again I have come out unscathed,” ”You can’t hurt me. I can’t kill me,” he concluded. “Did you really think your little jokes were going to hurt me? I did porn stars. I did drugs. Then I did the one thing everybody in America wishes he could do. I told my boss to f*** off. And then it was gone. … I’m done with ‘the winning’ because I’ve already won.”

Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife Brooke Mueller was there with him and she too looks really healthy. It is so great that these two seem to be getting it together!

Desperate Housewives’ Final Season Promo Shots

Desperate Housewives' Final Season Promo Shots

It’s hard to believe that Desperate Housewives will be going off the air forever after this season which marks Season 8 of the long-running ABC series.

In true fashion, the promo shots for the final season are nothing shy of glamorous! Eva Longoria 36, Marcia Cross 49, Felicity Huffman 48, Teri Hatcher 46 and Vanessa Williams 48 are perhaps ‘made up’ to the hills and maybe even a little photoshopped but the ladies look divine and why not go out with a bang?

And don’t forget that Nicolette Sheridan (who played Edie Britt and is suing producer Marc Cherry in real life) will be returning to the final season. It’s not known if she will be filming new segments or if they will be reusing old ones.

The new season premieres Sunday September 25 9/8 c.

New Clip from The Descendants!

New Clip from The Descendants!

Fox Searchlight has just released this new clip for Alexander Payne’s The Descendants. TIFF has only just begun and already the film has been anointed as one of the sure-fire Oscar picks. Actually, there was some talk to that end after Venice and Telluride, even before it hit Toronto. It is being touted as a possible best picture nominee, but also as a like vehicle for George Clooney to pick up a nod for Best Actor. (Clooney’s increased his odds of a nomination by directing and starring in another bit of Oscar-bait, Ides of March.)

The Descendants, is a sort of road-trip movie. Since it’s set in Hawaii, we can certainly count on the trip being scenic if nothing else. Based on the book by Kaui Hart Hemmings, it’s the story of Matt King, who struggles to reconnect with his two daughters after their mother, his wife, is in a boating accident and ends up in a coma. He discovers she’s been having an affair and along with his daughters embarks on a mission to find the man involved.

This clip has Clooney’s King being introduced to his daughter Alexandra’s (Shailene Woodley) new boyfriend, Sid (Nick Krause). This scene perfectly sets up the punch we see in the trailer and I don’t blame King one bit.

Being a fan of Alexander Payne’s previous work, (Citizen RuthElectionAbout Schmidt and Sideways), I’m really looking forward to this one. It’s got a great cast. In addition to Clooney, Woodley (in what is being called a break-out performance) and Krause, it includes the always wonderful Judy Greer, Beau Bridges, Matthew Lillard, Robert Forster, Rob Huebel and Michael Ontkean. Following screenings in Toronto, The Descendants opens in the US on November 18 and 21 January in the UK.
