Posters for A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas 3D!

Posters for A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas 3D!

There are five new posters for the third instalment of the Harold and Kumar franchise, A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas 3D . The posters are cute and colorful, and the title is supposed to be some sort of hipster goof on Christmas specials of yore, but my question is, just who was clamoring for this movie? And why the hell is it in 3D? Is this really all anyone can think of to do with the talents of Neil Patrick Harris? Okay I guess that’s three questions.

The film stars John Cho as Harold and Kal Penn as Kumar. (Didn’t Penn famously quit “House” and acting to take a job in Obama’s White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs? What happened to that? The call to do this was just too impossible to resist?)

Mandate Pictures official synopsis: Six years have elapsed since Guantanemo Bay, leaving Harold and Kumar estranged from one another with very different families, friends and lives. But when Kumar arrives on Harold’s doorstep during the holiday season with a mysterious package in hand, he inadvertently burns down Harold’s father-in-law’s beloved Christmas tree. To fix the problem, Harold and Kumar embark on a mission through New York City to find the perfect Christmas tree, once again stumbling into trouble at every single turn.

Here’s a look at the trailer:

Okay, I laughed more at this than that trailer for the new Steve Martin movie.

Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson, the cast  also includes Harris, Danny Trejo, Danneel Harris, Paula Garcés, David Krumholtz, Thomas Lennon, Patton Oswalt and Elias Koteas. A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas 3D arrives November 4.

Machine Gun Preacher Premieres at TIFF!

Machine Gun Preacher Premieres at TIFF!

Surrounded by the enormous crowds that typically turn out for a movie starring Gerard Butler, Marc Forster’s Machine Gun Preacher had a gala red carpet premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival Sunday night, September 11. Walking the red carpet were the director and his stars Butler, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Shannon and Madeline Carroll. The man on whose life the film is based, Sam Childers, made the trip to Canada along with his wife Lynne, who are portrayed in the film by Butler and Monaghan.

Some accounts have accused Butler of “mugging” for the cameras, as if that’s a bad thing. The man takes so much time, every time, that he appears at these things, to let his fans know he appreciates them almost as they appreciate him, I can imagine it must be exhausting, but in my opinion, it was probably just nerves. Machine Gun Preacher is an important film, for Forster, for Childers, for everyone involved, but especially for Butler who acted in as well as produced it. While it’s not the first time he’s done that, this project has been an affair of the heart from the beginning. He still becomes emotional when talking about his experience. His fans have been hoping the project lends his career the gravitas needed to take him to the next level.

Apparently he needn’t have worried. The audience in Toronto stayed glued to their seats until the final credits rolled and then gave the film and the filmmakers a standing ovation.

Celebrity Sightings: New York Fashion Week (PHOTOS)

Celebrity Sightings: New York Fashion Week (PHOTOS)

With all the hysteria in Toronto for TIFF I almost forgot there is also another very special event going on on the East coast and it’s New York’s Fashion Week!

New York is a who’s who of starlets attending fashion shows (and probably getting lots of free swag) and getting all glammed up. Lucky for me Walmart doesn’t partake in Fashion Week or I would be totally screwed.

Husband and wife Eddie Cibrian and LeAnn Rimes attended and she wore a very appropriate outfit to cover up the fact she needs a burger, stat.

Other stars in attendance: Rachel ZoeJulianne Hough (who is a gorgeous lady in red), Kelly Osbourne, Whitney Port, Samantha Ronson, Mandy Moore and Rose McGowan.

Sexy Poster for The Deep Blue Sea and TIFF Pics!

Sexy Poster for The Deep Blue Sea!

Check out this hot first poster, a TIFF exclusive courtesy of indiewire.com for Terrence Davies’ The Deep Blue Sea. I showed you some stills last week along with a clip that promised a good old-fashioned, yet passionate movie full of beautiful people and lots of period details. Well the poster’s got those things, it’s also got steam coming off of it in waves! All you Twi-hards who thought those posters for Breaking Dawn Part Whatever were hot, take a good look at this. This is grown up eroticism between two real people and the chemistry does not come from the Photo Shop.

The Deep Blue Sea is the tale of the wife of a British High Court Judge who is caught in a self-destructive love affair with a Royal Air Force pilot and stars Rachel Weisz and Tom Hiddleston as the clandestine lovers and Simon Russell Beale plays the judge. The director, Terrence Davies adapted Terence Rattigan’s play of the same name. It premiered at TIFF this weekend with Weisz, Hiddleston and Davies in attendance. I sincerely hope TIFF generates the buzz this film needs to secure some release dates. Right now, it’s only definite in the UK for a November 11 release.

Enjoy the pics of Weisz and Hiddleston at the TIFF events for The Deep Blue Sea, including the premiere on Sunday September 11.

A Star Is Born: Amelia Lily 16, KILLS IT at X-Factor

A Star Is Born: Amelia Lily 16, KILLS IT at X-Factor

You MUST watch this. Amelia Lily, all of 16 years old hit the stage at X-Factor extremely nervous (who can blame her right) with the most supportive parents and family backstage and she sings Beverly Knight’s A Piece of My Heart, and it’s as though she channels Janis Joplin! The lungs on this girl are incredible. It’s like an old soul resides within her. She said before going on stage:

‘I’m overwhelmed but you have to go out there and give it rock all as my dad would say.’

The audience, the judges were so blown away by her. Kelly Rowland told her:

‘I’m still having a hard time understanding that you’re 16-years-old with such a natural gift, your energy was great, you’ve got this big beautiful voice with so much soul beyond your years, you were born to do this.’

Indeed she was born to do this! I can not wait to see what this girl does in the future. Amelia Lily, your life is forever changed!

Fassbender Wins Golden Lion for Best Actor!

Fassbender Wins Golden Lion for Best Actor!

According to The BBC, “throughout the duration of the 68th Venice Film Festival, there were two words on the lips of every critic: Michael Fassbender.” As predicted, Fassbender has been awarded the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the festival’s closing ceremony today, for his performance in Steve McQueen’s Shame. (I’m thinking his people must have been supremely confident in the win since he changed his schedule and skipped TIFF to attend.) The film itself lost out to the Russian film Faust by Alexsandr Sokurov. Hong Kong actress Deanie Yip won the prize for Best Actress for her performance as a dying family maid in A Simple Life. The Jury Prize went to Italian director Emmanuele Crialese for Terrafirma, a film about African immigrants washed up on the remote Italian holiday island of Linosa. The screenplay prize went to Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos’s Alps, while best director went to China’s Shanjun Cai, whose People Mountain, People Sea officially played as the competition’s surprise film.

Fassbender is having an amazing year. This spring’s critically acclaimed adaptation of Jane Eyre, directed by wunderkind Cary Fukunaga was followed by a critical and commercial success with his turn as Magneto in X-Men: First Class. He has three films coming out in the next couple of months, at least two which (Shame and A Dangerous Method) have the very real possibility of winning major awards. He’s just completed filming on Sir Ridley Scott’s alien something or other, Prometheus and is currently film indie auteur Jim Jarmush’s untitled vampire flick (with Jane Eyre co-star Mia Wasikowska). He has at least three films in the works after that. While there are those of us who have been following Fassy’s career for a number of years, today’s  win in Venice could be seen as not only a precursor for other awards still to come this year, but as a sign that he’s officially “arrived”.

Shame has just been picked up by Fox Searchlight for release later this year (and its attendant awards campaigning). A Dangerous Method will be released by Sony Pictures Classics November 23 in the US and next February in the UK. Soderbergh’s Haywire, which rounds out Fassbender’s trio of complete films will be released in January.

I imagine that he must have been looking down at his parents in some of these pics. In others, I love the fact that he’s gripping a cigarette and his lighter along with the cup. If I’d just won that award, I’d need a cigarette too. News Flash: Fassy is expected to attend the Shame premiere at TIFF Hopefully we’ll get some good pics!
