AMC has released a whole big batch of character pics ahead of the season two premiere of its hit zombie series, "The Walking Dead"! I'm excited. This is a well-written, well-made show with a great cast. "The Walking Dead" features a cast that includes, Andrew Lincoln as Sheriff Rick Grimes, Sarah Wayne Callies ("Prison Break") as his wife Lori, Jon Bernthal ("The Class", The Ghost Writer) as Deputy Shane Walsh, Laurie Holden ("The Shield") as Andrea, Jeffrey DeMunn (The Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile among others) as Dale, Norman Reedus (The Boondock Saints) as Daryl Dixon, Steven Yeun ("The Big Bang Theory") as Glen, Emma Bell (Frozen) as Amy and Chandler Riggs (Get Low) as Carl Grimes.  The new season begins October 16.

There has been a recent spate of movies dealing with the worldwide financial crisis. Some of them vaguely satirical, like Casino Jack, others earnestly serious like HBO's "Too Big To Fail" and now comes the deadly serious, downright scary, Margin Call. (Oddly, all three star Kevin Spacey, who had better be careful that he doesn't end up becoming the face of this crisis.) Margin Call is the feature directorial debut of J.C. Chandor, who also wrote the original screenplay. It's got a crazy talented cast including Spacey, Jeremy Irons (who seems to be doing "Mustafa" crossed with Claus von Bulow), Paul Bettany, Simon Baker, Demi Moore, Stanley Tucci, Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgely,  Mary McDonnell and Aasif Mandvi.

Margin Call is a thriller that revolves around the key people at a investment bank over a 24-hour period during the early stages of the financial crisis. The bank may not be named but watch the trailer and see if it doesn't give you goosebumps. This is stuff of a nightmare that we're all still in the middle of. "Thriller"? Sure, if by that you mean the scariest horror movie ever.

It may be too soon to appreciate such a thinly veiled "fictionalized" account, but I'm betting it's going to be one of the best movies of the year. Margin Call played Sundance and the Berlinale earlier in the year and finally opens in the US on October 21.

If I didn't know a thing about Retreat, just from looking at these stills, and the tagline on the poster: "No Neighbours. No Help. No Escape.", I'd say this is a cross between Dead Calm and what that Straw Dogs remake wanted to be (that is, the original Straw Dogs with prettier people for the new millennium). However, watch the trailer and it appears they've thrown some 28 Days Later into the mix as well. Ironic, because that film also starred Cillian Murphy. Indeed, the setting for Retreat looks a lot like the setting of the final scenes in 28 Days Later.

Starring Murphy, Thandie Newton and Jamie Bell (who looks like they starved him on this shoot), Retreat is written and directed by newbie Carl Tibbets. Murphy and Newton play Martin and Kate, a married couple trying to escape from personal tragedy to an island retreat. Cut off from the outside world, their attempts to recover are shattered when a man is washed ashore with news of an airborne killer disease that is sweeping through Europe. Of course all one has to do is watch the trailer to know it all goes downhill from there.

Retreat opens in the UK 14th October and in the US on October 20th.

Holy crap this picture that is for sale on e-Bay looks eerily like John Travolta. The person selling the picture on e-Bay (for $50,000 big ones) says:

"For those of you who don't know, John Travolta is a Scientologist and many Scientologists believe in a type of reincarnation. Of course, time travel can't be ruled out as well," 

"The thing that I always found striking about this photograph and I'm sure that you will too is the amazing identical eyes, hairline and most importantly John's very unique trademark chin," they added.

I wonder if John visited one of those amusement-type parks that takes your picture  from the olden days as a souvenir and it fell into the hands of this e-Bay seller? Or is this some kind of photo shop magic?

If not, this is freaky, isn't it? But is it worth $50,000? I don't think so. I can imagine other pictures of John being worth $50,000 but he wouldn't be the only male in the picture. And there wouldn't be any clothes involved either.

This is one I am going to file under did NOT see that coming. Three of Nelson Mandela's granddaughters (Zaziwe Dlamini-Manaway 34, her sister Swati Dlamini 32, and their cousin Dorothy Adjoa Amuah, 27) are going to be on a reality show that will feature them as:

"refreshingly authentic" and "positive role models to women all over the world." The Mandela family supports "the right for their children to choose their own destiny and their own path,"

Despite negotiations still going on, it's pretty much a done deal and will air in the United States in January. And if you think this is another Kardashian type of reality show think again. Dorothy, who is a lawyer assures us:

"We're definitely not the African Kardashians."

I would kiss her if she were in front of me.The Producer of the show, Rick Leeds says:

”They clearly have a great love [for each other]. This may be part storytelling, part reality, except the story we are telling is real…it’s not going to detract from the dignity of Nelson Mandela.”

Although all three women grew up in Boston they have since returned to South Africa and you can pretty much forget about Nelson Mandela being part of this reality show. While the family respects their decision, they aren't going to be in it.
