Black Carpet Premiere for Warrior in LA!

Black Carpet Premiere for Warrior in LA!

Gavin O’Connor’s Warrior had it’s “black carpet” premiere at the Arclight Cinema in LA Tuesday night. Most of the cast turned out for it, including Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Morrison and the irascible Nick Nolte, who had been so absent, up to this point, in promoting the film.

Morrison, who looked stunning in gold strapless cocktail length dress, but her hottest accessory was her boyfriend, Amaury Nolasco. Director Gavin O’Connor was outshone by his arm-candy, former Baywatch babe (and Bruce Willis squeeze) Brooke Burns. Joel Edgerton looked very dapper in his well-cut grey suit with pocket square. There were some other bits of male pulchritude on display, like co-star Frank Grillo,Bryan Callan, Sam Hargrave and Jesse Metcalfe but Tom Hardy, even with a shaved head (for his role as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises) won the hotness parade. Loooved the black on black.

Other invited guests included Rene Russo, who still looks amazing.

Warrior opens this Friday September 9. Check out the pics of the premiere below:

It’s OFFICIAL: Lil Wayne Sells 964,000 Copies of ‘Carter IV’ In Its First Week

It's OFFICIAL: Lil Wayne Sells 964,000 Copies of 'Carter IV' In Its First Week

Billboard is reporting that Lil Wayne has officially sold 964,000 copies of Carter IV in its first week making it number one on Billboard’s top 200. That’s a position he’s used to as the same happened to his other two albums ”Tha Carter III” and “I Am Not a Human Being.”

According to Billboard:

His “How to Love” single is his first top 10 hit as a lead artist on the Pop Songs chart since 2008, when “Lollipop” (“Tha Carter III’s” first single) went to No. 5. “Love” is in fact only his second top 10 on the Pop Songs tally, after “Lollipop.”

Lil Wayne performed on the MTV Music Awards on August 28th which they are saying helped the sales of his album. From a download perspective he moved 362,000 copies of the album in its first week. Lady GaGa holds that record with 662,000 for Born This Way. Keep in mind GaGa had a two-day .99 cent sale on her Born This Way album. Imagine what Lil Wayne’s numbers would be if he did something similar?

Congratulations to Lil Wayne on the success of Carter IV. Well done!

First Look at The Awakening!

First Look at The Awakening!

I love discovering something like a new film to look forward to in the middle of an otherwise wretched day. Today’s find is The Awakening, a new, and yet retro, British ghost story along the lines of the classic fare from Hammer Studios. (Personally, I’m glad to see a return to this type of “horror” and away from gore and torture-porn.) Directed by Nick Murphy (known primarily for British tv) with a script co-written by Stephen Volk (another British tv vet), The Awakening stars Dominic West (“The Hour”, Centurion300, “The Wire”) and Rebecca Hall (Vicky Cristina BarcelonaThe Town)

The synopsis: 1921 England is overwhelmed by the loss and grief of World War I. Hoax-exposer Florence Cathcart (Hall) visits a boarding school to explain sightings of a child ghost. Everything she believed in unravels as the ‘missing’ begin to show themselves.

Also starring Imelda Staunton and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran in “Game of Thrones”) The Awakening is set to play TIFF on September 16 and the BFI London Film Festival next month. Hopefully we’ll get more release dates after the festivals.

Gorgeous New Pics From A Dangerous Method!

Gorgeous New Pics From A Dangerous Method!

If it’s possible, David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method is coming out of its two festival bows this past weekend, at Venice and Telluride, with even greater buzz than it had when it went in. The majority of the reviews have been raves, those that weren’t were still good. While some critics have been less than thrilled with Keira Knightley, it’s pretty much unanimous that Michael Fassbender’s performance is awards- worthy. Next, the film will hit up the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival before it opens here in the US on November 23.

Below are some beautiful new images from the film. I’m especially pleased that among them is one featuring Vincent Cassel. Until Venice, he’d been missing from the still and clips being meted out in pre-release publicity. From what I’ve read, his character, Otto Gross, who is a protege of Freud (Viggo Mortensen), is the ID to Jung’s (Fassbender) Ego and Freud’s Super Ego. A smart, literate, intelligent, intensely verbal adult drama. I can’t freakin’ wait!

This time, it is the Brits who have to wait patiently, as A Dagerous Method doesn’t open in the UK until 10 February 2012.
