Warrior Sneak Peek This Sunday!

The Men of Warrior!

I had the privilege of seeing Gavin O’Connor’s new film, starring Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton more than a month ago and although I feel the same way about it today as I did then, I’m not sure what else I can say about Warrior that I haven’t already said. Go. If you liked The Fighter, this movie is for you. Go. If you liked Rocky, this film is for you. Go. If you know the camaraderie and brotherhood of serving in the military or you support someone who is or has, this film is for you. Go.

The movie, although set against the backdrop of  MMA fighting, is about family and all that that entails and all of the permutations. Family in all its goodness and its ugliness, including the horrors that we put each other through, the lengths we’re willing to go for one another. It’s about forgiveness and redemption and the fact that at the end of the day, when everything else falls away, family is what we’re left with.

If you want to know more, you can check the rest of our coverage of Warrior at the bottom of the page.

Lionsgate, again in conjunction with AMC Theaters, is holding sneak peeks this Sunday September 4, ahead of the film’s release on Friday September 9.

What:  Sneak peek preview of Warrior

When:  Sunday, 9/4, 7PM

Where:  Theaters nationwide, click here for a full list and the trailer.

I have to say, in my opinion, it’s worth the hype. It languished on the shelf for nearly two years seeking distribution and now it’s becoming the “little movie that could”. See it.

CONFIRMED: Rihanna is NOT Dropping Jay-Z’s Roc Nation

Rihanna Gets LOUD in Toronto - PHOTOS

Reports from Media Takeout came out yesterday giving the exclusive that Rihanna was dropping Jay-Z’s music label Roc Nation after Beyonce made the announcement that she was pregnant.

Apparently Rihanna is suing the sister of her Roc Nation manager Jay Brown claiming that she defrauded her. TMZ reported earlier this week that Rihanna is suing a woman who sold her a $6.9 million house that was a piece of crap (hello, anyone hear of the deal being contingent on an inspection?) and this woman knew as much and therefore duped her. Although TMZ doesn’t specifically say it’s Jay Brown’s sister, Media Takeout is saying it is.

However, with the help of Twitter, celebrities can deny rumors like this. Judging by her tweet, I’d say she’s pretty damned loyal to Jay-Z and Roc Nation:

CONFIRMED: Rihanna is NOT Dropping Jay-Z's Roc Nation

And then there is this this retweet:

CONFIRMED: Rihanna is NOT Dropping Jay-Z's Roc Nation

So there you have it. Lawsuit or not, Rihanna is staying with Rocnation until she dies.

Two New Creepy TV Spots for Dream House!

Two New Creepy TV Spots for Dream House!

There are two new thirty second TV promos for Jim Sheridan’s mystery Dream House, starring the newly minted Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Craig (Mrs. is Rachel Weisz, in case you’ve been living in a cave and didn’t know that.) They are very similar, but since they both feature glimpses of a shirtless Daniel Craig I’m perfectly okay with that.

The official synopsis: Some say that all houses have memories. For one man, his home is the place he would kill to forget. A family unknowingly moves into a home where several grisly murders were committed…only to find themselves the killer’s next target. Successful publisher Will Atenton (Craig) quit a job in New York City to relocate his wife, Libby (Weisz), and two girls to a quaint New England town. But as they settle into their new life, they discover their perfect home was the murder scene of a mother and her children. And the entire city believes it was at the hands of the husband who survived. When Will investigates the tragedy, his only lead comes from Ann Paterson (Watts), a neighbor who was close to the family that died. As Will and Ann piece together the disturbing puzzle, they discover that the story of the last man to leave Will’s dream house will be just as horrifying to the one who came next.

Also starring Naomi Watts, Marton Csokas, Elias Koteas and Jane Alexander, Dream House opens in the US and Canada on September 30 but oddly, no UK date is listed.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness Urge You to Support World Vision’s East African Efforts (VIDEO)

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness Urge You to Support World Vision's East African Efforts (VIDEO)

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time you know we are HUGE fans of Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness. They are beyond classy and graceful and here’s another prime example of their kindness.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness are throwing their support behind World Vision’s East African efforts to provide relief efforts to families affected by the severe drought by, among other things, helping them diversify their income so they are affected by droughts:

“World Vision is supporting long-term programs such as drought-tolerant crops, help for herders’ animals, and assistance to families to diversify their income source so that drought doesn’t leave them without an income,” said Jackman.  And Furness added: “Children are the most vulnerable in times of crisis like this and in the worst hit areas of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia nearly half a million young people are at risk of malnutrition.  Hugh and I have been to Ethiopia, and we’ve seen first-hand the World Vision staff who work on the ground. They’re at the crisis points now providing lifesaving food and water.”

If you would like to help, visit World Vision’s site on details of how you can make a difference.

To see more of Hugh Jackman, his latest movie, Real Steel hits theatres on October 7!

Poster and Trailer For Long-Awaited Margaret

Poster and Trailer For Long-Awaited Margaret

Kenneth Lonergan’s Margaret, a film that’s been on the shelf looking due to legal and editing hassles for six years, is finally seeing the light of day and to that end we have a pretty poster and a trailer that will make you feel the pain.

Margaret  revolves around a 17-year-old New York City high-school student who feels that she has inadvertently played a role in an accident (pedestrian vs bus) that claimed a woman’s life. She meets opposition at every step in her attempts to make things right. Torn apart with frustration, she begins emotionally brutalizing her family, her friends, her teachers (one of which she begins an affair with), and most of all, herself. She has been confronted quite unexpectedly with a basic truth: that her youthful ideals are on a collision course against the realities and compromises of the adult world.

Lonergan made his directorial debut with the brilliant You Can Count on Me.  He also wrote Gangs of New York so he should have a handle on multiple story lines and Margaret appears to have a lot of threads,  as well as a lot of grief, pain and personal anguish. I’m quite certain there’s a lot more here than meets the eye in this trailer. It’s a shame a film with this much talent involved is quietly slinking into theaters. I think it’ll definitely be worth a look. If not in theaters, on dvd or VOD. The film stars a much younger Anna Paquin along with Matt Damon, Mark Ruffalo, Matthew Broderick, Olivia Thirlby, Kieran Culkin and Jean Reno.

Margaret opens in limited release in the US on September 30.
