Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Week 6 Recap October 24, 2011

dancing with the stars

It's Broadway week on week 6 of  Dancing With The Stars where our celebrities will show us their groove thing while dancing to some of the most popular Broadway shows. Last week saw the elimination of my favorite guy, Carson Kressley. This is the thinning of the herd portion of the season and the competition is heating up. In addition to their individual dances there will be a group dance tonight.

We are updating this post live after each and every performance including scores so keep hitting the refresh button.

Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke  Cha Cha – They are dancing to 'Walk Like A Man' from Jersey Boys. I have to say Rob Kardashian is improving each and every dance and it's really nice to see him step up to the plate. I know I probably sound like a broken record saying that but I really thought he was going to be more like his sister when she was on the show. Scores: 8/7/7 = 22/30.

Nancy Grace and Tristan McManus Foxtrot – They are dancing to 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' from Spamalot and I have to say they look rather cute in their costumes.  However, for Nancy to accuse Tristan of making their choreography so difficult she was bound to screw it up is crazy. He has everything to lose by doing that seeing as the dancers only get paid if they stay in the competition. It was a cute routine but she didn't keep up to him in certain steps. I disagree with the judges in that she was that good. She missed a lot of steps. I don't think we were watching the same routine. Scores: 9/7/8 = 24/30.

David Arquette and Kym Johnson Quick step – They are dancing to 'We Go Together' from Grease. I don't know if it's me but it seemed that David did much better in rehearsals than he did during the live performance. Don't get me wrong I love him and want him to stay, but something was off. At times they weren't in sync.  Scores: 8/7/8 = 23/30.

Ricki Lake and Derek Hough Quick step – They are dancing to Luck Be A Lady Tonight from Guys and Dolls. Ricki worked very hard in rehearsals and looked very tight. She was perfect on the dance floor. She was tight, precise and her posture was perfection not to mention she had the charisma and could totally keep up with Derek. Scores: 10/9/10 = 29/30.

Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer  Tango – They are dancing to the Phantom of the Opera. Chaz seemed to have difficutly during this week's rehearsals. At times on the dance floor it seemed like he really rose to the ocassion but I'm not sure it's enough for the judges although he clearly is a fan favorite. Scores: 7/6/6 = 19/30.

Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy  Rumba – They are dancing to Seasons of Love from Rent. Maksim was really hard on her in rehearsals. His comment about everyone giving up on her ability to dance were harsh. She did great with the girls but not so great once it was just her and Maks. I love Hope but she does really hold back the sexy and it looks awkward. I thought there was going to be an ugly fight (uglier than it was) between Mask and Len but I have to say Maks showed great disrespect to Len when he said maybe it was time for his career to be over. That kind of cockiness is really unattractive. Scores: 7/6/7 = 20/30.

J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff Quick Step – They are dancing to Chicago (as they were announcing that I went for snacks). As always J.R. is perfection. He is larger than life with his personality charisma and flawlessness on the dancefloor. I'm telling you he is the Season 13 winner of that disco ball trophy.  Scores: 10/9/10 = 29/30.

Did you watch tonight's show? Who do you think will be going home tomorrow night?

Jennifer Lopez Explains Why She Cried at Her Concert

Jennifer Lopez Explains Why She Broke Down at Her Concert

Over the weekend Jennifer Lopez performed at the Mohegan Sun casino in Montville, Conn. where she sang her new song 'One Love'. During the song male and female dancers performed behind her that looked like the past men in her life (Ben Affleck, P. Diddy and Marc Anthony) along with female dancers dressed as JLo did back in those relationships.

After the performance she simply said to the audience "A little trip down memory lane," and started to cry. The audience sucked it up (as they should) and gave my girl a standing ovation.

JLo explained to Access Hollywood what was behind that moment on stage:

“After I sang the song, I’m standing there, and I realized that I did bare a little bit of my thoughts in this song. I also acted it out, kind of, for the audience. The way they received it was very touching,” Jennifer explained.

“I think that they felt what I felt, which is, you know, I’m just a girl, just like everybody else, trying to find my way,” the 42-year-old star, who split with Marc Anthony in July, continued. “I felt like they got that, and they understood it, and we were all like one at that moment.”

Adding, “It was very, very touching. I think they felt that, and I felt it from them. It kind of overwhelmed me.”

You know I don't care of JLo marries 20 times. I think she is a great person and the fact that she remains so optimistic about love despite public break-ups is refreshing.

Nicolas Cage is on FIYAH in 1st Clip from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance!

Nicolas Cage is on FIYAH in 1st Clip from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance!

At least I think that's Nicolas Cage. In Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the sequel to the 2007 film, Cage plays Johnny Blaze, still struggling with his curse as the devil’s bounty hunter. The film follows Johnny Blaze as he hides out in Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse, when he is called upon by a secret sect  to save a young boy (Fergus Riordan) and stop the devil (Ciaran Hinds), who is trying to take human form . At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy – and possibly rid himself of his curse forever.

In this clip, Ghost Rider appears to be coming to the rescue of a damsel in distress who is being menaced by Johnny Whitworth. That's about all it tells us.The clip made its bow during the 2011 Scream Awards on Spike TV. Judging from the audience reaction, there are people who are psyched for this movie.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (CrankCrank 2:High VoltageGamer). The screenplay is by Scott M. Gimple & Seth Hoffman and David S. Goyer, based on the Marvel Comic. The film also stars Violante Placido (The American), Christopher Lambert and Idris Elba.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Sizzles in “Magic City”!

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Sizzles in "Magic City"!

Miami Beach 1959. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (PS I Love YouWatchmenTexas Killing Fields) is Ike Evans, a luxury hotel owner who in order to secure his dream, begrudgingly gets into bed with mob boss Ben “The Butcher” Diamond (Danny Huston, Children of Men, Robin Hood), while his former showgirl wife, Vera (Olga Kurylenko, Quantum of Solace, Centurion), remains happily clueless. This is "Magic City" coming to Starz in the spring of 2012 which chronicles the collision of mobsters, politicians and entertainers at the first preeminent Miami hotel just as Fidel Castro takes control of Cuba and shuts down Havana as a gambling haven.

I saw the trailer for this the other night attached to Starz other new series, "Boss" with Kelsey Grammer ("Frasier" he ain't! You should check it out.) and I was immediately hooked. Sure, the comparisons with "Mad Men" are inevitable, just like they were for the canceled-too-soon "The Playboy Club" (which in truth had more in common with "Crime Story" than "Mad Men") as well as "Pan Am". The only thing these three series have in common, in my opinion, is the era in which they are set. LOTS of things happened in the late 50's-early 60's. They didn't all involve Madison Avenue. With a supporting cast that includes Seymour Cassel, Kelly Lynch, Michael Rispoli and Steven Strait and scripts by Mitch Glazer, I think that this has real potential.

What do you think? Will you watch?

SNL Star Darrell Hammond Admits to Doing Booze, Crack and Cocaine

SNL Star Darrell Hammond Admits to Doing Booze, Crack and Cocaine

Darrell Hammond was part of Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 2011 and I don't know about you, but I would never have known this man was doing booze, coke and crack during that time. You'll remember him for his epic impressions of Bill Clinton, Dick Cheney and Al Gore but behind the comedy was great tragedy. He says in his new memoir God, If You’re Not Up There, I’m F*cked,” that he used drugs and alcohol as a way to escape a traumatic childhood:

“I kept a pint of Remy in my desk at work,” Hammond recalls in “God, If You’re Not Up There, I’m F*cked,” out Nov. 8 from HarperCollins. “The drinking calmed my nerves and quieted the disturbing images that sprang into my head … when drinking didn’t work, I cut myself.”

He then got involved with cocaine in 2002:

“I’d started adding an obscene amount of cocaine to my binges … I had to be creative about how I did it without other people catching on or letting it interfere with the work. At least too much.”

But the spiral continued to go downhill in 2009:

“I had the brilliant idea I should try crack,” he writes — and he spent time in a Harlem crack house.

I really don't know how his body survived all of that abuse. Darrell has since cleaned up his act and now remains straight and sober. His book comes out on November 8th and a copy was sent over to SNL last week but no comment as of yet. But Darrell has nothing but fond memories (despite being taken away from the NBC studios in 2008 in a straightjacket):

“I don’t have anything bad to say about anyone there,” he told us. “They all really went above and beyond the call for me.”

I don't recall ever hearing about any of this, do you? His impersonations were brilliant which is quite remarkable given his obvious state at the time. Are you shocked about these revelations?
