Trailer for Angelina Jolie’s In the Land of Blood & Honey

Trailer for Angelina Jolie's In the Land of Blood & Honey

Angelina Jolie wrote and directed In the Land of Blood & Honey, the story of two Bosnians, Lejla, a Muslim woman and Danijel, a Serbian man, lovers before the war, who are separated only to be brought back together when Lejla is imprisoned at a POW camp where Danijel is a guard. The film was given a December release date, prime awards season territory, way back in the spring. The film did, however, remain a mystery as to whether it was actually any good or the FilmDistrict had picked it up because Jolie's name would invite the curious. It was  was conspicuously absent from the festival circuit and there has been no promo material released, until now.

This trailer makes the film look like the real deal. It's definitely a love story set against the backdrop of war, but it speaks to some larger issues, specifically trust, as well. Jolie has been quoted as saying, "The film is specific to the Bosnian War, but it’s also universal. I wanted to tell a story of how human relationships and behavior are deeply affected by living inside a war." I'm anxious to see the rest of it, but the trailer gives the impression that Jolie knows what she's doing behind the camera as well as in front of it. In the Land of Blood & Honey opens December 23.

Miss Piggy in Prabal Garung for InStyle!

InStyle Magazine finally has a plus-sized model! The one and only Miss Piggy appears in the glossy pages of the mag's November issue (the one with Gwen Stefani on the cover) modeling designer duds from six designers who created clothes especially for her, including: Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, Brian Atwood, Opening Ceremony, Suno and Giles & Brother. Describing the look in the pic above, Miss Piggy said, “Simply beautiful, yet deliciously exotic and enticingly romantic. Yes, I’m talking about myself—as well as this fabulous frock designed by my new BFF Prabal Gurung.”

Check out the interview with La Porker on InStyle's FB page, where the diva talks about her favorite designer, shoes, Lady Gaga and of course, Kermit.

Miss Piggy will, of course, next be seen (after an absence of twelve years) in the upcoming film, The Muppets. The film stars Piggy along with Kermit, Jason Segal, Amy Adams, Neil Patrick Harris, Chris Cooper, Emily Blount and half of Hollywood as the Muppets reunite to save their old theater from a greedy oil tycoon. Friday’s Fabulous Fashionistas Are: Fergie, Katy Perry, Miranda Kerr and More

Friday's Fabulous Fashionistas Are: Fergie, Katy Perry, Miranda Kerr and More

Singer-songwriter Fergie, 36, brings us into the future in a cosmic-inspired George Chakra Couture dress when she attended The Clinton Foundation's "A Decade of Difference" gala in L.A. on October 14.  Hervé Léger by Max Azria clutch and Christian Louboutin ‘Pigalle Strass’ pumps complete the look.  (I wonder if she knew the dress even matches the blue carpet and background.)  While this is quite a departure from what we're used to seeing Fergie wear, especially on the red carpet, she does prove one thing.  That is, you don`t have to be super model tall and waif-like to look great in couture.  Simply, Fergalicious!

Friday's Fabulous Fashionistas Are: Fergie, Katy Perry, Miranda Kerr and More

Another fashionista making (somewhat of) a fashion departure this week is rocker Katy Perry, 26.  Katy is known for her funky fashion sense.  However, she recently hit the town with her mother-in-law, Barbara Brand, in this 60s‑inspired Giambattista Valli cape dress and jacket ensemble to see the musical adaptation of Ghost in London`s West End.  Although the look is somewhat different from what we`re accustomed to seeing her in, Katy stays true to her playful style in bright head-to-toe pink including pink hair and pink lipstick.  And quite frankly, I like this monochromatic look on Katy.  It just goes to show you that you can take the girl out of pink, but you can never take the pink out of this girl!

Another darling making a statement in pink is Supermodel Miranda Kerr, 28, who strikes a pose in a gorgeous Michael Kors gown and strappy gold sandals recently at the New York Victoria`s Secret flagship store.  Miranda was in The Big Apple to help unveil the $2.5 million Victoria`s Secret Fantasy Treasure Bra for their 2011 Christmas catalogue.  (Stop choking.)  Incidentally, Miranda will be modelling the bra, which features 142 carats of diamonds, (you heard right) in the 2011 Victoria`s Secret Fashion Show, airing Tuesday, November 29 on CBS.  (And I`ll bet every seat is sold out.)  Now, I like ordering from Victoria`s Secret as much as the next person.  But if you had billions of bucks to blow on lingerie, would you buy this bra?  Try walking through customs wearing it.  Even sniffer dogs would kill for it.

Always a vision of beauty and elegance, Catherine Zeta-Jones turned heads in this lilac Elie Saab Haute Couture capped-sleeve creation bejewelled with Van Cleef & Arpels earrings and bracelet with Rene Caovilla pumps when she attended the Fine Romance Benefit in Culver City, CA on Saturday, October 15.  The gown is a keeper and is adorned with hundreds of crystals.  Apparently, as with most haute couture gowns, which take MONTHS to create, it would probably retail somewhere in the neighbourhood of $100,000.  However, as most of us couldn`t afford such a frock, I checked eBay hoping perhaps that someone in their not-so-right state of mind might be dying to get rid of theirs for a bargain price.  Unfortunately, no one's selling.

The most glamorous Housewife on Wisteria Lane, Eva Longoria, is dazzling in an Alice + Olivia shimmering sheath on Saturday, October 15 when she hosted the Padres Contra El Cancer gala with George Lopez at the Tropicana in Las Vegas.  Eva always gets its right.  Whether on the red carpet or in the checkout line at the grocery store, she always looks great.  Did you know that while growing up, other girls referred to her as "la prieta fea", which, in Spanish, means "the ugly dark one".  Little did they know that years later a publication named Maxim would come along and list her as #1 Hottest Female Star of 2005 and 2006, and not to mention becoming the first woman to top the list in two consecutive years.  Just sayin!

Not everyone can look as stunning pumping gas as they do on the red carpet.  However, Katherine Heigl, 32, is here to defy those odds.  Katherine recently attended Elle`s 18th Annual Women in Hollywood Tribute held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills on Monday, October 17, and hit the red carpet in this Amanda Wakeley embellished dress with Tacori earrings, David Yurman gems and Rene Caovilla heels and finished the look with a Deepa Gurnani clutch.  On Thursday, Katherine is seen filling up for gas decked out in a gorgeous camel and black trimmed coat with stunning leopard-print bootie-licious booties.  Now, do you think she was on her way to another glamorous bash and had to stop off to get gas or do you think she just looks like this every time she pulls up to a gas station?  Just wonderin'.

She may have been voted off Dancing with the Stars, but Kristin Cavallari, 24, earns high marks and two spots in this week`s Friday`s Fashionistas.  Kristin wore a black lace dress with long sleeves and a neckline similar to that of HRH Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge`s wedding dress, while attending the P.S. Arts' 20th Anniversary Celebration.  The event was hosted by jewellery designer, David Yurman and was held at Sunset Tower in West Hollywood on October 18.  Kristin`s ring is by David Yurman, which is designed in 18K yellow gold with black onyx and diamond pave.  To see more of David`s designs, davidyurman.com.  The day before, Kristin attended the Redbury Hotel in Hollywood where it was her turn to play host as the new brand ambassador for and at the Chinese Laundry party, wearing a formfitting white mini dress with a nude clutch and, of course, nude Chinese Laundry pumps.  All I can is, what is Dancing with the Stars' loss, is Chinese Laundry`s gain!  To see more of their shoe colleciton, visit  Chinese Laundry.

And completing this week's Fashionistas is Modern Family star, Sofia Vergara and model/actress, Denise Vasi.  Donning a sleek black dress with Pomellato bangles, Sutra earrings, silver clutch and black peep toe pumps, Sofia wows the crowd while recently attending The Clinton Foundation's A Decade of Difference gala at the Hollywood Palladium in L.A.  I just love that neckline, which also proves popular with Denise Vasi in her black Zac Posen gown when she attended the Caron Renaissance 3rd Annual Save‑A‑Life gala at the Capitale Bowery in NYC on October 17.  Denise completes the look with diamond baubles (hello!) and cherry-red lipstick.

That's it for another week readers.  Hope you enjoyed this week's picks. What are your picks? (My pick for this week: Catherine Zeta-Jones.)  Thanks for dropping by and see you next week!

Powerful First Trailer for Flowers of War with Christian Bale!

Powerful First Trailer for Flowers of War with Christian Bale!

China's official entry for the 2012 Academy Awards is Flowers of War, the story of the Nanjing Massacre in 1937, when thousands of inhabitants of the then-capital Nanjing were murdered by invading Japanese troops. An American priest named John shelters prostitutes and students during the attack, and as the trailer reveals, negotiates an uneven peace with Japanese troops.  The surprising part of this is that the American Priest is played by Christian Bale.

This is a very different Bale from caped crusader Bruce Wayne or his Oscar winning performance as Dickie Eklund in The Fighter, but then again, every Bale performance is different. No two are alike as he's a true chameleon. Also in this trailer is Paul Schneider. You may think you know him from "Parks and Recreation", but this guy's got chops. (See Lars and the Real Girl or Bright Star as evidence.) The film looks brutal and intense and although I confess to not knowing much about this pivotal piece of Chinese history, Bale's presence does have me curious, even if I'm not sure exactly what director Zhang Yimou (Red SorghumHouse of Flying Daggers) is going for in terms of tone. (What's going on with that priest?)

There's no US release date yet, but that will certainly change if Flowers of War wins the Best Foreign Film category at February's Oscar ceremony and will definitely be available on dvd regardless.

Ashton Kutcher Speaks: ‘People Can Bastardize The Truth’ VIDEO

Ashton Kutcher Speaks: 'People Can Bastardize The Truth' VIDEO

Ashton Kutcher has done a video 'opening the dialogue on honesty' and if you haven't noticed he isn't wearing a wedding ring. Not that it matters because a piece of jewelry means a hill of beans to some people and maybe when he's home all jewelry comes off.

So he starts yammering on about reading some dude's stuff and the 'cost of literature' and how publishers back before computers held great scrutiny over what they were willing to print. Well I guess all of us bloggers have gone and bastardized that industry all to hell and back, haven't we? Although let's be truthful: no one considers us journalists and I personally am okay with that. That is way too much pressure bitches.

And of course with the internet, quality has plummeted and that threshold is now non-existent. And no, the cost is not zero Ashton. A site does cost money to run. However it's substantially less than that of a publisher for sure.

Basically I lost interest in his video. I was really hoping that for a moment Ashton would think he was at the confessional and start blubbering his sins to the world. But no such luck.

While I can assume there are some very obvious messages here, I'm a proponent of being direct  so that way there are no misunderstandings and even less bastardizing of the truth.
