Watch: Red-Band Trailer for 21 Jump Street *NSFW*
A new red-band trailer (definitely *NSFW*) has hit the web for the big screen version of 21 Jump Street. I didn’t have a huge emotional attachment to the 80’s tv series, but my first reaction to the news that it was being turned into a feature film was a resounding ‘meh’.
The screenwriters, Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs The World) and Jonah Hill, have obviously decided comedy bordering on parody was the way to go, much like the big screen version of Starsky and Hutch. Neither it nor 21 Jump Street bear any resemblance to the original other than the title and initial concept. ( An undercover police unit consisting of young looking officers infiltrate high schools to control youth crime.) This trailer suffers from a complete lack of Johnny Depp, although he is listed on imdb. My guess is a well-placed cameo. Having said that, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum seem to make a pretty good comic duo, with Tatum-tot basically playing to his strengths: dumb and pretty. There are a few genuine chuckles to be had as well. Ice Cube and Ron Swanson, I mean Nick Offerman, both steal their brief moments here. Check out the trailer. Funny or not?
21 Jump Street leaps into theaters March 16 everywhere.
