Character Posters and a Plethora of Pics from Scorsese

Character Posters and a Plethora of Pics from Scorsese

The push is on. Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, a family film he made because his family asked him to, opens in theaters on Wednesday November 23 here in the US, just in time for the long holiday weekend. A few days ago I surmised that Hugo was meant to be Scorsese’s (an avowed film fan as well as a curator of celluloid and keeper of the flame) sonnet to moviemaking. Everything I’ve read about the film, as well as what the master himself had to say to Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show" last week, bears that out.

One of the main characters is Georges Méliès, one of the first and most influential filmmakers of the 20th century (played by Sir Ben Kingsley) who had by the 1930’s retired to a toy shop in Paris, just as his cinematic counterpart has.  Not having read Brian Selznick’s book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, I cannot wait to find out how  Méliès, an orphaned boy, whose father has left him an automaton, a clock and a key all fit together.

We have gorgeous new character posters to share as well as a host of beautiful images, many of which show us characters we haven’t seen before, including those played by Emily Mortimer, Richard Griffiths, Frances de la Tour and the great Christopher Lee. I highly recommend Martin Scorsese’s interview with Jon Stewart. The whole interview wasn’t available except in the context of the entire show. If you’re interested, you can find it here.  Hugo opens November 23 in the US & Canada and 2 December in the UK. Enjoy the pics!

Mila Kunis Attends Marine Corps Ball PHOTOS

Mila Kunis Attends Marine Corps Ball PHOTOS

Mila Kunis made good on her promise to attend the Marine Corps Ball just like her Friends With Benefits costar Justin Timberlake.

Back in June, Sgt. Scott Moore published a YouTube video asking Mila to accompany him to the Marine Corps Ball in Greenville, North Carolina and in July Mila accepted .

Last night Mila was whisked from the airport to the convention centre where her handsome date waited for her. Judging by the pictures they enjoyed themselves and he looked to be a little bit in a haze. I mean imagine you ask a Hollywood actress to attend a ball with you and she accepts? How surreal would that be for him?

And didn't Mila look stunning in her dress? Such a beautiful girl on both the inside and out!

Two New International Posters for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Two New International Posters for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

We have two new foreign posters for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. The first shows Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler, looking rather sinister. I have to wonder if the fact that she’s been given her own poster indicates a bigger role than I had previously thought, but then again, it’s only been released to the Asian market. Also for that market we have a whimsical poster for Gladstone, Watson’s dog, the one that Holmes “killed” repeatedly in the first film.

Official Warner Bros. synopsis: “Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in the room…until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large-Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)—and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective.

When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder—a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by one Professor Moriarty.

Mixing business with pleasure, Holmes tracks the clues to an underground gentlemen’s club, where he and his brother, Mycroft Holmes (Stephen Fry) are toasting Dr. Watson on his last night of bachelorhood. It is there that Holmes encounters Sim (Noomi Rapace), a Gypsy fortune teller, who sees more than she is telling and whose unwitting involvement in the prince’s murder makes her the killer’s next target. Holmes barely manages to save her life and, in return, she reluctantly agrees to help him.

The investigation becomes ever more dangerous as it leads Holmes, Watson and Sim across the continent, from England to France to Germany and finally to Switzerland. But the cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead as he spins a web of death and destruction—all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.

Since we’re now past the thirty day mark in terms of the run up to the release date, I’d say we’ll be getting more clips and images very soon. We’ll keep you posted. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens everywhere December 16.

Amanda Seyfried in First Trailer for Thriller Chiller Gone!

Amanda Seyfried in First Trailer for Thriller Chiller Gone!

Amanda Seyfried headlines Gone, a thriller written by Allison Burnette (Underworld Awakening). It’s Seyfried’s third film in less than a year, after Red Riding Hood and In Time. (The latter much more well received than the former). I’m still undecided as to what I make of this. It seems to have quite a few things in common with Silence of the Lambs, not to mention any number of slasher/teen horror flicks.

“Jill Parrish (Seyfried) comes home from a night shift to discover her sister Molly (Emily Wickersham) has been abducted. Jill, who had escaped from a kidnapper a year before, is convinced that the same serial killer has come back for her sister. Afraid that Molly will be dead by sundown, Jill embarks on a heart-pounding chase to find the killer, expose his secrets and save her sister.”

It seems to me that this would be relegated to straight to video…er excuse me dvd, if it weren’t for Seyfried. While the supporting cast does have some talented actors in it, there aren’t any names that can open or carry a movie. I’m not sure Seyfried can either. She had the likes of Gary Oldman and Julie Christie behind her in Red Riding Hood and In Time was Justin Timberlake’s movie, but here she is clearly the star. The talented cast does include Wes Bentley (who needs to work more), Jennifer Carpenter, Sebastian Stan, Daniel Sunjata ("Rescue Me"), and Joel David Moore (Avatar).

We’ll see. The trailer is not without potential. Gone is the English language debut of Brazilian director Heitor Dhalia (2009’s Adrift) and arrives in theaters 24 February in the US and the UK.

Demi Moore & Ashton Kutcher Were Into Threesomes

Demi Moore & Ashton Kutcher Were Into Threesomes

Despite the fact that it was allegedly Ashton Kutcher's cheating that ended their marriage, he and Demi Moore enjoyed threesomes a source to RadarOnline is alleging:

“They would have threesomes,”“Demi liked women and Ashton would bring another woman into their relationship for flings, but they both agreed to it.”

So if they are into threesomes why would his being with another woman end the marriage you ask:

If he wanted to do anything as long as she knew about it she was fine,” the source said.  “It was the sneaky ones when he got caught that infuriated Demi.”

You always have to take these 'sources' with a grain of salt. Maybe they did enjoy an open marriage like that, who knows and really who cares because whatever between two consenting adults, right?

However, her divorce statement would lead one to believe they didn't have that kind of marriage, but you never know what people will say to maintain a certain 'image'.

Does this rumor surprise you?

Daniel Craig on the Set of Skyfall in London

Daniel Craig on the Set of Skyfall in London

We haven’t talked about Daniel Craig with reference to Skyfall, or Bond 23, since the press conference last month. There hasn’t really been much to say. Director Sam Mendes and the rest of his cast, including Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Berenice Marlohe, Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem are being typically tightlipped about the whole thing. Fiennes has hinted more than once while out beginning the promotional rounds for Coriolanus, that he may be playing a version of great Bond villain, Ernst Blofeld. At least he hasn’t outright denied it when asked. We don’t know what kind of villain Bardem will be playing and who Albert Finney will be playing is anyone’s guess.

Trying to make something out of nothing or at least keep Bond in the public eye, there have been a some internet rumblings about Mendes’ Bond being more of a thinker than a fighter. Pfffft.  I have no problems with a more cerebral Bond, frankly I think that’s one of the things Daniel Craig brings to the role in the first place. Mendes, however, can do action when it’s called for. A few fuzzy images of  James Bond (Craig) have surfaced as he rides around in the back of a Range Rover, but the only official pic to be released is from the first day of shooting and it’s the interior of a public restroom. Ick. (I include it below just so you’re not missing anything.) Today, however we got some shots of Craig running around Trafalgar Square. The difference here is that it is clearly Craig as Bond and he is clearly looking all kinds of dapper and swoon-worthy in a Tom Ford topcoat. Nuff said.

Enjoy the pics. There will be MUCH more to follow since Skyfall is still shooting, (it will eventually leave London for Scotland, Turkey  and China) and doesn’t fall into theaters until 26th October in the UK and November 9, 2012 in the US.
