New Images and Clip from Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy!

Three New Posters for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy!

The new stills we have from Tomas Alfredson’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy just dangle the carrot a little more, but at least a lot of them are of Tom Hardy as Ricki Tarr! (I’m pretty sure that mouth is considered obscene in many parts of the world. That's him in the poster even if it does have Gary Oldman's name under the pic.) It feels like it’s been ages since we’ve had anything new on this film, one of the most hotly awaited of the big movie season. Of course, it’s already been out for literally months in the UK; it’s only us schmucks in the US and Canada that are still panting like puppies waiting by the dinner dish.

In case you’re still unaware of this film, the official synopsis from its kick-ass website:

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is the long-awaited feature film version of John le Carré’s classic bestselling novel. The thriller is directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In). The screenplay adaptation is by the writing team of Bridget O’Connor & Peter Straughan.

The time is 1973. The Cold War of the mid-20th Century continues to damage international relations. Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), a.k.a. MI6 and code-named the Circus, is striving to keep pace with other countries’ espionage efforts and to keep the U.K. secure. The head of the Circus, known as Control (John Hurt), personally sends dedicated operative Jim Prideaux (Mark Strong) into Hungary. But Jim’s mission goes bloodily awry, and Control is forced out of the Circus – as is his top lieutenant, George Smiley (Gary Oldman), a career spy with razor-sharp senses.

…Smiley is soon called in to see undersecretary Oliver Lacon (Simon McBurney); he is to be rehired in secret at the government’s behest, as there is a gnawing fear that the Circus has long been compromised by a double agent, or mole, working for the Soviets and jeopardizing England. Supported by younger agent Peter Guillam (Benedict Cumberbatch), Smiley parses Circus activities past and present. In trying to track and identify the mole, Smiley is haunted by his decades-earlier interaction with the shadowy Russian spy master Karla.

The mole’s trail remains cold until maverick field agent Ricki Tarr (Tom Hardy) unexpectedly contacts his handler, Guillam. While undercover in Turkey, Ricki has fallen for a betrayed married woman, Irina (Svetlana Khodchenkova), who claims to possess crucial intelligence. Separately, Smiley learns that Control narrowed down the list of mole suspects to five men. They are the ambitious Percy Alleline (Toby Jones), code-named Tinker; suavely confident Bill Haydon (Colin Firth), dubbed Tailor; stalwart Roy Bland (Ciarán Hinds), called Soldier; officious Toby Esterhase (David Dencik), dubbed Poor Man; and – Smiley himself, tagged as Spy.

Even before the startling truth is revealed, the emotional and physical tolls on the players enmeshed in the deadly international spy game will escalate…

The clip below, called “Good Flight?”,  features Haydon (Firth) and Smiley (Oldman). It’s 42 seconds of pure tension.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (finally!) opens December 9. Enjoy the pics!

Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner Party in Germany PHOTOS

Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner Party in Germany PHOTOS

Following the Berlin premiere of Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner along with others went to dinner at the Bocca di Bacco restaurant at the Friedrichsstrasse.

Then it was off to da club where they partied until 2 a.m. at Bar 1000. The photos say they left with two mysterious girls, but they looked more like women actually part of their 'camp'. If there is one thing we know about Robert it's that he's not a whore or a douchebag.

Woody Harrelson is Just Plain Rotten in the First Trailer for Rampart!

Woody Harrelson is Just Plain Rotten in the First Trailer for Rampart!

Oren Moverman's Rampart  stars Woody Harrelson, who earned an Oscar nomination in Moverman's last film, The Messenger. Harrelson plays arguably the worst, most corrupt cop you’ve ever seen on screen. Certainly the worst since Denzel Washington earned an Oscar for playing Alonzo Harris in Training Day. Harrelson is being mentioned in the same breath as Oscar for his role as Dave Brown. The script is co-written by Moverman and one of my all-time favorite writers, James Ellroy (the novels "LA Confidential", "The Blue Dahlia"-but don't hold the movie against him- among many others). Joining Harrelson and Moverman is Ben Foster, who should have been nominated for The Messenger.

Official synopsis: Based on a true LAPD scandal from the 1990's, Rampart is the genre-bending police drama/family story of Dave Brown, a a cop long ago unleashed from the rules of the LAPD, whose past is catching up with him. Roving the streets, he governs and punishes at will. His home life is a riddle. He has fathered children with two sisters (Anne Heche and Cynthia Nixon). Somehow he still lives casually with them both, slipping in and out of a family life thats as tangled as his long career on the force. {This reminds me of The General with Brendan Gleeson-also based on a true story} Years ago, Brown may have killed a rapist and gotten away with it. The shadow of the incident still haunts him, so when his Rampart division gets caught up in a corruption scandal, Brown makes an easy target. As the controversy seeps through the department and into city hall, this hardened, reckless officer finds himself at the center of a sordid L.A. story with a D.A. and an investigator on his trail, a lover who may or may not be on his side and fighting for his sanity and survival.

The cast is impressive. In addition to Harrelson, Foster, Heche and Nixon, Rampart stars Robin Wright, Sigourney Weaver, Steve Buscemi, Ned Beatty, Ice Cube, Jon Foster and Jon Bernthal.  Following a successful tour on the festival circuit, Rampart has been picked up for release by Millennium Entertainment. It will open in NY and LA for awards qualification, then go wide January 27.

Much Improved 2nd Trailer for Madonna’s W.E.

First Look at Madonna's W.E.!

While we know that Harvey and The Weinstein Company showed so much faith in the film that he planned an awards season push for it, by most of the reports coming out of Venice and Toronto, Madonna’s W.E. was a bit of a mess. Visually stunning, but without much “there” there.

I’d heard that there was some last minute behind the scenes retooling being done prior to its release and if the new trailer is any indication, I think it helped. This new trailer seems to have more focus, and indeed puts most of it on Abbie Cornish and her contemporary character Wally Winthrop.

The synopsis:  W.E. is a  two-tiered romantic drama focusing on the affair between King Edward VIII (James Darcy) and American divorcée Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough) and a contemporary romance between a married woman (Cornish) and a Russian security guard (Oscar Isaac).

Check out the film’s newly launched website here.

W.E. opens in New York and LA on December 9, the UK  on 20 January and wide in the US on February 3.

New Poster and Three Hilarious Clips from Young Adult!

New Poster and Three Hilarious Clips from Young Adult!

Jason Reitman’s new film Young Adult chose to forego the festival circuit this year, instead building internet buzz through the strategic placement of trailers and clips. It’s working since the film and Charlize Theron’s performance, as YA novelist/ex-prom queen from hell Mavis Gary, are being talked about with reference to awards contention.  Watch these three hilarious clips and you’ll understand why.

The film’s synopsis: A writer (Theron) of teen literature returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson). However, when returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school, either.

All of the clips are extended from snippets in the trailer and give us a bit more context. They also make it clear that the devil is in the details. In the first clip as Mavis checks into a hotel, it’s all about the subtleties of the eye contact she shares with the front desk clerk, the way they size each other up instantly and with a minimum of language.

In fact, in all three clips it’s the little things, particulary Theron’s facial expressions and body language. She manages to convey so much with the slight narrowing of her eyes or tilt of her chin. I love the look of horror on the sales woman in the second clip before she yells for help.

Young Adult reunites Reitman and Diablo Cody, who wrote Juno. In addition to Theron, Wilson and Oswalt, he film also stars Elizabeth Reaser, and JK Simmons, the last of whom worked with Reitman and Cody on their Oscar-winning Juno.

Young Adult opens in the US & Canada on December 9, 10 February in the UK.

New Images from Haywire + Your Michael Fassbender Fix on the Side!

UK Trailer for Steven Soderbergh's Haywire!

Rise and shine my little junkies! It’s Saturday morning and time for your Daily Fassbender! First we have some shiny new images from Steven Soderbergh’s cinematic version of Redbull and Vodka, Haywire, starring MMA fighter Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum-tot, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas and Michael Fassbender.   At least Fassy only gets his ass handed to him by Carano’s Mallory in one of these stills.

There’s the official synopsis for Haywire, just in case you missed it: This dynamic action-thriller …introduces mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar Gina Carano as Mallory Kane, in a demanding lead role that has her performing her own high-adrenaline stunts.

Mallory Kane is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency. Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who know her every move, Mallory must find the truth in order to stay alive.

Using her black-ops military training, she devises an ingenious—and dangerous—trap. But when things go haywire, Mallory realizes she’ll be killed in the blink of an eye unless she finds a way to turn the tables on her ruthless adversary.

Yeah baby! I can’t wait. Haywire opens January 20 in the US, Canada and the UK.

Now, back to Michael Fassbender…

Remember we told you he was GQ Magazine’s “Breakout Man of the Year”? Well, Thursday night in LA, the mag threw a party for all of the honorees at that den of iniquity, the Chateau Marmont. So naturally, the man of the moment made an appearance and we have some pics. Not sure what he’s doing with Rose McGowan (and whatever it is, I’m not sure I like it), but I love the cigar.

I realize it seems like I’m cheating on my other boyfriend *coughGerardButlercough* but I’m really not. Fassy’s had a piece of my heart since ’07 and 2011 is his year. Attention must be paid.

Enjoy the pics!
