The latest volley in the big battle of the dueling Snow White’s is a trailer for Tarsem Singh’s now titled Mirror, Mirror. You know, the one with Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer and Phil Collins’ daughter Lily.  That other one, Snow White and the Huntsman has Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Stewart. It’s kind of like the Greek vs the Roman Gods…only not.  I can imagine that Universal rushed the SWatH trailer out there to capitalize on KStew’s ubiquity due to Breaking Dawn’s imminent opening. Relativity is probably hoping to stick the trailer for Mirror, Mirror on the coattails of the success of its latest release, Immortals.

These two films have since we saw the first images, appeared to be completely opposite each other in style and tone. This trailer confirms it. Where SWatH is dark and dramatic, Mirror, Mirror is light and frothy almost to the point of camp. Julia Roberts is clearly having a blast as the Evil Queen. Whether or not it works within the context of the entire film remains to be seen. This is either going to be a hot mess or a laugh riot.

Did that dwarf just say what I think he said? Yes. Yes he did. He went there. I don’t know about this. The script is by Jason Keller, whose only other credit is Machine Gun Preacher. Opinions differ wildly on that film as a whole but if you wanted to parse it out, in my opinion the script was the weakest aspect of it. I don’t know what that says about Mirror, Mirror. I can’t judge the entirety by the trailer, but it doesn’t make me hopeful. Mirror, Mirror still has the advantage of opening first, on March 16.. 

Actor and iconoclast, Adrien Brody has made his directorial debut, right under our noses. Okay, so it’s a commercial for men’s grooming sponsored by Gillette, but he still directed it and it’s still a pretty damn good piece of film.

His piece piece is called “Boxer” and it’s all about the face. He fills his sixty seconds with black and white closeup images of interesting, but by no means classically handsome faces. Something the actor is intimately familiar with. The first time I watched it, I wasn’t aware it was a commercial. I thought I was watching the beginning of a short film and wondered where it would take me. That it ultimately took me to the sidewalk of a dingy New York (presumably) street and the Gillette logo, was a surprise, but not a letdown.  Take a look:

Brody’s no stranger to commercials. Last year’s Stella Artois campaign had him playing a smokey lounge singer in a 30’s Parisian boite, only to find out at the end he was serenading a glass of beer. I love this guy

After a three year adoption process, Friday Night Lights' and American Horror Story star Connie Britton 44, is now a proud mom to a baby boy she adopted from Ethiopia! Last week Connie returned with baby Eyob and tells People exclusively:

I am thanking my lucky stars every day," "It was such a wonderful moment of completion," she says. "I thought I was going to collapse into a puddle of tears. I was just grinning from ear to ear."

While Eyob is the boy's given name, she's nicknamed him Yoby. No word on the little boy's age but regardless congratulations to Connie!

Last night's Dancing With The Stars eliminated Hope Solo and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy in a much talked about season that saw tension between these two and these two and the judges. This leaves J.R. Martinez, Rob Kardashian and Ricki Lake as the three celebrities heading into next week's final show that will see them do three dances.

Despite the bravado, Hope was so upset by her elimination that she barely got through her first backstage interview breaking down in tears before excusing herself from the remaining interviews. 

Normally the eliminated star and professional dancer appear that night on the Jimmy Kimmel show but last night all three finalists were on the show which worked out just as well considering how upset Hope was.

Sorry but while Hope did improve she was not that strong of a dancer and could never take the judge's criticism objectively. They are judges. They judge. It's what they do. It's too bad Hope couldn't learn from that or just carry on despite what she perceived to be personal attacks.

The Sweeney is a big screen version of a hit 1970’s British cop drama now filming in London starring the best bad guy ever, Ray Winstone, Damian Lewis and Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger).  This time Winstone is using his powers for good and not evil, playing a “hardened detective” in the flying squad of London’s Metropolitan Police Force. (Winstone’s first role was as an unnamed youth in the original show.)

The film’s title comes from Sweeney Todd which is Cockney Rhyming Slang for 'Flying Squad'. Director Nick Love is best known for 2007’s Outlaw with Sean Bean and Bob Hoskins, but he also produced Bronson with Tom Hardy. He knows his way around a geezer. (British slang for a man, generally self-educated, confident, “laddish”. A bloke’s bloke.). Brit crime dramas are a 'thing'. Geezers make me swoon.

At one point, Michael Fassbender was attached to this project in the role that Damian Lewis now has. Now you know how I feel about Fassy, but I also adore Damian Lewis. He’s one of a small cadre of hyper talented gingers that I just can’t get enough of. (This select club includes Kevin McKidd, of course). Like Fassbender and Hardy, he got a huge leg up from HBO’s Band of Brothers (with the lead no less) and I’ve been hooked ever since. He’s currently appearing in “Homeland” for Showtime and if you aren’t watching it, you are missing out on the best show on tv. (His first American tv show, “Life” lasted half a season. It was too good. I’m glad Homeland is on cable…for a lot of reasons.) No pics of Lewis on set but there’s a great vid as he rocks out to Billy Idol’s “White Wedding” at the “Homeland” wrap party.

The girl accusing Justin Bieber of fathering her baby, Mariah Yeater withdrew her paternity suit on the down low late last week TMZ is reporting. In addition to that her lawyers Lance Rogers and Matt Pare have withdrawn from Mariah!

Perhaps Justin's willingness to take a DNA test and sue Mariah and her lawyers' asses off is the reason for withdrawing the lawsuit? 

So much for the 'evidence' she claimed she had against him. Maybe she thought his concert ticket stub was evidence? Maybe she thought she would get famous? I can't imagine why anyone would even consider a stunt like this knowing they haven't even met the person?

I have to admit I went back and forth with this one. Not because she seemed necessarily credible, but because a lot of blind items were circulating that really seemed to point to this as being true. It just goes to show you, huh?
