New Images from Twilight: Breaking Dawn-Part 1!

New Images from Twilight: Breaking Dawn-Part 1!

As if any of you Twi-hards needed your fires stoked any more for this movie, ahead of its takeover of every cinema on the planet this Friday, November 18th, Summit Entertainment has released nine new hi-res glossy (if not sparkly) stills from The Twilight Saga: Break Dawn – part 1.

Directed by Bill Condon (Chicago),  this installment of the series finds the Quileute and the Volturi closing in on newlyweds and expecting parents Edward and Bella, whose unborn child poses different threats to the wolf pack and vampire coven.

In case you’ve been in a coma for the last three years, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – part 1 stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene, Taylor Lautner, Jackson Rathbone, Dakota Fanning, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Billy Burke and Kellan Lutz.  The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – part 2, also based on the last of Stephanie Meyers’ phenomenally successful books, will open November 2012.

Watch Another Minute of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!

Posters! Get Yer Red Hot Posters Here!

You have to give it to Columbia Pictures, they did it. They have completely turned me around with their brilliant marketing campaign for David Fincher’s remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I’m still not sure why a remake of the Swedish version was needed, but I’m in for Fincher’s ride. (It helps to know that they did at least offer to let Noomi Rapace reprise her role as Lisbeth Salander, but she declined.) Every little tidbit they drop leaves me wanting more and isn’t that what a good trailer should do?

This is a sixty second tv spot and it’s amazing how much they managed to pack into that little bit of time. It may be my imagination but it seems to me that the focus is more squarely on Rooney Mara’s Lisbeth in this one, with Daniel Craig’s Mikael Blumqvist more of a supporting player.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will (finally) open in the US and Canada on December 21 and 26 December in the UK. Hmmm…so it’s Tom Cruise vs Daniel Craig. I wonder how much of the audience they share. Should be interesting.

Tom Cruise is Disavowed and Indiscreet in New TV Spot for Mission:Impossible-Ghost Protocol!

Poster for Mission:Impossible-Ghost Protocol!

We’ve got a new TV spot for Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. No Tom Cruise doing the human fly routine this time, although there are hints. It’s only a lot of stuff blowing up and then a lot of finger pointing. That’s fine. This movie looks like it’s going to kick major amounts of ass and be the best in the franchise since the first one. It will definitely surpass it in the action and special effects departments. Cruise, of course, returns as operative Ethan Hunt. He and his entire team must fight for a way to clear their names after they are disavowed along with the rest of the agency when the President initiates "ghost protocol," essentially erasing them from existence.

Directed by Brad Bird, best known for The Incredibles and making his live action debut, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was filmed last year in Dubai.  It was just announced that the flick will have its world premiere as the opening night selection of the 8th Annual Dubai International Film Festival on December 7.  Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens in IMAX in the US on December 16 and regular theaters on the 21st. The UK gets it on 26 December.

Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 Los Angeles Premiere PHOTOS

Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 Los Angeles Premiere PHOTOS

Last night in Los Angeles the world stood still while the stars of Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 took to the red carpet for the premiere ahead of Friday's release of the movie.

But let's cut to the chase and deal with the elephant in the room: Kristen Stewart's dress with the slit practically up to her vagina. While the slit up to the vagina doesn't bother, me the dress itself does. It's like Grandma called and she wants her curtains back. Am I right?

And while I am pasty white myself, something about a pasty white leg in a dress doesn't do anything for me.  I would have taken a dip in Snooki's bucket of bronzer just for the evening. But then you have to worry about turning orange or pulling a Valentino in which case pasty is best.

It was cool to see Heather Locklear and her daughter Ava at the premiere along with Jeffrey Dean Morgan who brings out the restraining-order dirty in me.

Breaking Dawn premieres on Friday. Are you going to see it? I have my tickets and I'm peeing all over the place I'm so excited.

First Trailer and a UK Poster for Iron Lady with Meryl Streep!

First Trailer and a UK Poster for Iron Lady with Meryl Streep!

There’s finally a first trailer for Phyllida Lloyd’s The Iron Lady, the biopic of Great Britain’s first (and as of today, the only) female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher.  The film features a pearl-bedecked Meryl Streep as Thatcher. We don’t learn much from the trailer other than Maggie was a fighter, she battled sexism and prejudice against her gender in order to lead her country, but anyone who lived during her tenure at No. 10 Downing Street already knows that and history has already painted her as such. For the first time, it seems to me that Streep is in danger of being swallowed up by the makeup and the accent. I hope I’m wrong, but I wonder if I’ll be able to enjoy the performance underneath all of that.

Pushed back to December 30, The Iron Lady will be one of the last films to get in a limited release by the awards qualifying deadline.  Whether or not it’s ready by November 28 for the New York Film Critics Circle vote remains to be seen. Since another would-be contender, Stephen Daldry's Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close may also not be ready in time, perhaps this will force the NYFCC to move its date (which many think is too early anyway.)

The Iron Lady costars Jim Broadbent as Denis Thatcher, Anthony Head as Geoffrey Howe, Richard E. Grant as Michael Heseltine and Ronald Reagan as himself, earning one last screen credit in archive footage.

Being Flynn with Robert DeNiro Gets A Poster and a Trailer!

Being Flynn with Robert DeNiro Gets A Poster and a Trailer!

We’ve got the first trailer for Paul Weitz’s Being Flynn with Robert De Niro, Paul Dano and Julianne Moore. How is it possible I had not heard a single thing about a movie with a cast like that, one based on a best-selling memoir, Nick Flynn’s “Another Bullshit Night in Suck City”, no less?  (I wish they’d had the balls to keep the book’s title. The film’s rated R anyway.) At least I finally know what De Niro was doing here in Boston this past Spring. I need to pay more attention to these things!

Nick Flynn (Dano) is a writer in his twenties, trying to find his voice, who works at various homeless shelters in Boston, where he often intersects with his brilliant but troubled father (De Niro). Moore plays Nick’s mother, who raised him alone. Check out the trailer.

Weitz, best known for About a Boy with Hugh Grant, knows his way around comedic drama or dramatic comedy, however you want to look at it. Being Flynn with De Niro, Dano, Moore, Olivia Thirlby, Lili Taylor, Billy Wirth and Dale Dickey. We have the first trailer and the first poster, but only the vague release info of “2012”.
