Dancing With The Stars Week 9 Semi Finals Recap 11/14/11

Dancing With The Stars Week 9 Semi Finals Recap 11/14/11

It's the semi-finals and we are down to four in this 9th week of season 13 of Dancing With The Stars. Tonight is going to take its toll on the celebrities as they are required to dance 3 dances tonight! The third dance is the Cha Cha Cha Relay in which each couple dances and are awarded either a 10, 8, 6 or 4 depending on how well (or not) they did. These scores are added to the totals  from their other two dances.

How these celebrities do it is mind-boggling, but there is no turning back now. Keep refreshing as we will be updating this live. Sorry we got off to a bit of a late start so the first dance, the Paso Doble with Hope and Maks doesn't have much to say.

Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Paso Doble – Maks and Hope seemed to have an okay week, however Hope is in serious pain and required a shot to the arm that she was saving for the Olympics. While she seemed into character the judges thought she lost refinement in her moves. Maks and Hope seem disappointed with their Scores: 7/7/7 = 21/30.

Argentine Tango – Wow I never knew the life she had as a child. I have to say I was very impressed with her Argentine Tango. On a shallow note I wish she didn't wear that hosiery. She played the character very well and her moves were sharp. Scores: 8/8/8 = 24/30. I have to say Hope really needs to drop this conspiracy theory thing where she said the judges wanted her gone from the beginning. That's absolutely insane! She is her own worst enemy with an attitude like that.

Cha Cha Cha Relay – While their moves seemed tight I don't  think Hope quite had the hip action that she should have.  4 = 49.

J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff Paso Doble – These two had a brutal rehearsal week. It seemed that every time they tried they had an injury but these two are consummate professionals and nothing is going to stop them from giving it their all. You can see J.R. is in pain during this dance but he was, as always, incredible! I don't know how he is going to be able to go on and dance two more dances. Scores: 8/7/8 = 23/30.

Argentine Tango – I love J.R.'s spirit and attitude it's so contagious and inspirational. He's just amazing. You would never know judging by this danced that J.R. is probably in pain with his ankle. This Argentine Tango had so much chemistry. 9/9/9 = 27/30.

Cha Cha Cha Relay - What can I say? I love watching J.R. dance and this was no exception. 6 = 56.

Robert Kardashian and Cheryl Burke Samba – This is the perfect dance for him because of his big butt they say. I'm  thinking that Len is not going to like the little float they came out on because that's how Len rolls. I can see Rob count, but he's got a smile and the entire audience is on their feet. I'm no expert but I'm not sure that the judges will find this semi-final worthy. Clearly I am 'off' because the judges loved it. Scores: 10/9/9 = 28/30. Clearly I've lost my mind.

Argentine Tango – I honestly did not think that Rob would be here this long. I really didn't think he'd last and I love when I'm proved wrong by someone with talent. he really has come a long way and I think is deserving of being here in the semi-finals. 9/9/9 = 27/30.

Cha Cha Cha Relay - They did really well and going last is both very good and very bad if you think of it. You can be unnerved by another performance or you can be thankful you don't have to be the first. 10 = 65.

Ricki Lake and Derek Hough Argentine Samba – Ricki is that type of person that can handle criticism objectively and she learns from it and nothing is going to prevent her from doing her best. I really like her and she works incredibly hard. She and Derek looked to be having a fabulous time. The judges loved their dance! Scores: 10/10/10 = 30/30.

Argentine Tango – Another incredible Derek Hough production. He is just the best choreography. His dances leave you mesmerized! Scores: 9/10/10 = 29/30.

Cha cha Cha Relay -Their movements were excellent. It's hard to know how they will do until all the couples have danced but it's Derek Hough and Ricki Lake, right? 8 = 67.

Michael Fassbender is GQs “Breakout Man of the Year”!

Michael Fassbender is GQ

My question is, “What the hell did they do to his eyes?” He looks like an extra in Village of the Damned!

Ah well. I don’t think there’s any question about the fact that 2011 will go down as one of the most memorable of the thirty four (and a half) that Michael Fassbender has spent on this planet.  In less than the span of twelve months, he will have had five major films unleashed upon a general populace that only thought they knew what they were in for.

Unless you’ve been following his career trajectory closely (and there are a few of us who have been), then Lt. Archie Hickox in Inglourious Basterds, which is where most everyone else took notice of him, would not have prepared you for Edward Rochester in Jane Eyre, Erik Lensherr in X-Men: First Class, Carl Jung in A Dangerous Method, Brandon in Shame or Paul in Haywire.  Of course, if you’ve seen Hunger or Fish Tank you knew. If you’ve seen 300 or “The Devil’s Whore” or even Eden Lake or “Hex” you might’ve guessed.

Some of us used to wonder why the rest of the world hadn’t caught on yet, to the phenomenal talent that is Michael Fassbender (wrapped up in a very sexy hardbody, let’s not get too pious here). Now that they have, some of us kind of want to stuff the genie back into the bottle.

Here are some pics from the latest stop on the Shame tour, San Francisco, in furtherance of Fassbender’s quest for world domination (and finding an audience for a film he's very proud of and just happens to have an NC-17 rating). Oh and one from the AMPAS event Saturday night! Fassy in a tux surrounded by giant replicas of Oscar! Remember that image. Enjoy!

Pamela Anderson To Play Virgin Mary on Christmas TV Show

Pamela Anderson To Play Virgin Mary on Christmas TV Show

Sweet Jesus we did not see that one coming. Pamela Anderson brings porn and Playboy to mind when people think of her, not to mention her ginormous rack. So to think of her in the Virgin Mary role is quite a stretch, isn't it? But you know what? Pammy can laugh at herself and she's in on the joke!

Of course Pamela Anderson playing her for a Christmas TV Show has to be a joke right? Well it is. It's for the Comedy Network and CTV's 'A Russell Peters' Christmas Special. If you don't know who Russell Peters is, he is a very funny Canadian comedian (and kind of sexy if you ask me).

The one hour special will hit your television December 1st and we will get to see Pamela Anderson with Russell Peters in the Nativity Scene sketch.

Fellow Canadians Michael Buble and Scott Thompson (Kids in the Hall) will be on the show along with Ted Lange (The Love Boat) and Jon Lovitz.

Will you be watching?

Three Wonderful New Images from Pixar’s Brave!

Three Wonderful New Images from Pixar's Brave!

Tis the season for animated and “family” (which usually means “kiddie”) oriented fare, with the holidays soon upon us.  We’ve seen or will see in the next few weeks, the likes of Arrietty, Puss in Boots, Happy Feet 2, Arthur Christmas and  The Muppets. Even Martin Scorsese’s Hugo could arguably go into this category. As much as I loved Puss, as much as I’m looking forward to the others, there is an animated film that I am really excited about and it’s still months away.  Disney Pixar’s Brave, features Pixar’s first female heroine, Merida, the wee lass with the masses of flame ginger hair and an indomitable spirit.

Brave is almost certain to be visually stunning. We’ve seen a teaser and a few images, all of them as breathtaking as any travelogue for the Scottish Highlands. Here are three new images, two of which give us glimpses of some of the characters we can expect to see: King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson), as well as who I can only assume are Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltraine) and Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd)

The story is this: Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida (Kelly Macdonald) defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.

Brave opens June 22 in the US & Canada and not until 17 August in the UK (although surely a premiere in the north of Scotland is in order before then.)

UK Trailer and New Poster for Carnage with Kate Winslet!

UK Trailer and New Poster for Carnage with Kate Winslet!

The new UK trailer for Roman Polanski’s Carnage, based on the hit play “God of Carnage” by Yasmina Reza, doesn’t really break any new ground. For the most part (there are some additions) it shows us the same scenes as in the US trailer, but orders them differently thus placing more emphasis on some topics, less on others. For instance, in the US trailer, there is more humor revolving around drinking while in the UK version, we learn that Christoph Waltz’s character Alan, calls his wife Nancy (Kate Winslet) by the pet name, Doodle. It’s all about the context.

The premise for the film is simple. Two New York couples, both the parents of young boys, meet to discuss the fact that one boy has hit the other boy with a stick during a playground dispute.  What follows is sort of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolfe” –lite, with initial reserve, manners and consideration giving way to much bickering, insults and apparently vomiting.

The cast consists of the four actors you see in the trailers and the posters: Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly. I have to say, the poster above, supposedly the final version, is completely bland. That may be the point though. Appearances being deceiving and all.

Carnage opens December 16 in the US & Canada and 3 February in the UK

The First Trailer for Eagerly Anticipated The Hunger Games!

The First Trailer for Eagerly Anticipated The Hunger Games!

Can you say HOT HOT HOT? That’s what the excitement level has been for The Hunger Games since it was announced that Lionsgate would be making a big screen version of Suzanne Collins’ wildly successful trilogy of novels.  Everything from the casting to the locations to the costumes have been debated down to the last detail.  We’ve been given a few sporadic images that have been devoured hungrily by the faithful. Now we have the first trailer! How will it be received?

The synopsis: Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister's place for the latest match.

Not being an aficionado of the books, all I have to go by is what I see. It looks to me that they’ve tried to give everyone a good sampling of what’s to come. We seem to have been at least visually introduced to all of the major players, including Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Gale (Liam ‘Drippy Chin’ Hemsworth) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson). We also see Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy  and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna.

The Hunger Games takes over the world on March 23, 2012.
