New Coriolanus Poster Featuring A Fierce Ralph Fiennes!

New Coriolanus Poster Featuring A Fierce Ralph Fiennes!

We’ve got a new UK one sheet for Coriolanus and damn but doesn’t Ralph Fiennes look like someone you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley? Ordinarily, since I know nothing about his villainous turn as Voldemort in the Harry Potter series, I would not have that thought about Mr. Fiennes’ fine visage.

Courtesy of Empire, the poster shows the title character after an obviously bloody battle, with whom we don’t know. It’s an image we’ve seen in some of the stills released by The Weinstein Company over the last few months (for which Harvey’s at the top of my Holiday card list; Lionsgate is handling overseas distrib.), but used here to great effect. Love his clear, intelligent blue eyes staring out of that bloody face and the specter of Coriolanus’ mother, Volumnia played by Vanessa Redgrave, hovering just behind him. Very intense.

Coriolanus, based on one of Shakespeare’s lesser known plays, marks Fiennes directorial debut and has already been earning high marks from film festival goers all over the world. In addition to Fiennes and Redgrave, the film costars Brian Cox, James Nesbit, Jessica Chastain and Gerard Butler as Coriolanus’ arch-enemy Tullus Aufidius.  It opens in a limited NY/LA awards qualifying run December 2 (which is in exactly 21 days, but who’s counting?) and I’m already swooning at the thought of watching Fiennes and Butler go mano a mano.

Michael Fassbender Goes on the Worst Date Ever: 2nd Trailer for Haywire

UK Trailer for Steven Soderbergh's Haywire!

Or maybe it was the best, depending on your perspective. I don't judge. Seriously, poor Michael Fassbender. It’s a good thing he had four (that's right four) other high profile roles this year, including one for which there’s loud whispering of an Oscar nomination (Shame), or else he might not live down having his ass kicked by a girl. In the second trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire, Fassbender doesn’t just get it kicked…he gets it completely, thoroughly, bone-crunchingly trounced. I suppose he can take additional comfort in the fact that the kicker is accomplished MMA fighter, Gina Carano.

It's been over a month since we talked about Haywire so I’m excited we’re getting something new. We’ve already had the trailer for Safe today, but if you’re jonesing for another good actioner, I think this is gonna fit the bill nicely. (Now that would be a double feature!)

Haywire – Trailer #2 [VO|HD] by cinemakervideo

Despite it’s overly testosterone saturated cast, including Antonio Banderas, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Angarano, Michael Douglas and Bill Paxton, Haywire is really all about Gina Carano’s Mallory. Carano plays a black ops super soldier seeking payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission. (My question is, did she get a charge out of sitting on Michael Fassbender?)

Haywire opens January 20. Below are some pics of Fassy at the Variety screening for Shame in LA on Wed. Nov. 9. "Oh the shark bites, with his teeth dear…"

Jason Statham Is Coming to Kick Your Ass! Watch: First Trailer for Safe!

First Poster for Jason Statham's Safe!

“You got some balls Luke.”

“Yeah, amazing I can even walk.”

Luke is Jason Statham so yeah…nuf said. The movie is Safe, directed by Boaz Yakin. We told you about this one way back in August when the first poster was released and then we got some stills at the beginning of September and I’ve been waiting with baited breath for this trailer ever since.  Let’s just say it looks like Statham is back in top form after what some considered to be a lackluster outing in Killer Elite. (For the record I am not one of them. I liked it.)

The synopsis: A former elite agent takes on a two-tier mission: rescue a Chinese girl who's been abducted by the Triads, then use a safe combination to outwit the Russian Mafia, corrupt NYC officials, and the Triads themselves.

Well! Doesn’t that look like fun! Seriously I’m all for a good action movie with a great story, but I don't even care what it's about as long as 'The Stath' is involved and gets to be all…'Stath-y'. Do you? Didn't think so.

Written by the director Boaz Yakin (Fresh, A Price Above Rubies, Remember the Titans), Safe costars Chris Sarandon (score! He doesn't work nearly enough), James Hong, Robert John Burke and Anson Mount (AMC’s “Hell on Wheels”).

Here's the bad news. Lionsgate had originally scheduled this for a late October release, but it was just announced, due to their already packed fall slate (so packed they had to pass on domestic distribution of Marc Forster's Machine Gun Preacher to Relativity. Don’t get me started.), they are pushing it back to March 2, 2012. Well, at least it's not the dreaded January so they must still have some faith in it and just don't want it to get lost.

One Last Parody Trailer for The Muppets-Take 2

One Last Parody Trailer for The Muppets-Take 2

One last parody trailer for The Muppets before the film is released.  Haven't we heard that before? Oh yeah, that's what they said about the trailer they released a few weeks ago. For months now the makers of The Muppets have teased us with some really funny parody trailers. We've seen parodies of The Hangover 2, followed by Green Lantern and then The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. All hilarious. Then what we thought was the final Muppet parody trailer included references to Happy Feet 2, Puss in Boots, Paranormal Activity and Twilight: Breaking Dawn part 1. Well, apparently unable to let go of a good thing, we've got one more, this one a salute to Bollywood. It's short and sweet and it's Muppets!

Seriously? Who doesn't want more Muppets? (Other than the AMPAS apparently. Although I have to say, I don't think even I could handle a three hour live telecast hosted by these ambassadors of cute. By the end of the evening everyone would be wishing they'd hired Roseanne Barr. Unless they let Statler and Waldorf do the whole thing.)  I'll be kinda sad when The Muppets finally opens and we won't have all of this muppety goodness to look forward to. Oh well, all good things come to an end, including a brilliant marketing campaign. The Muppets opens November 23 in the US and Canada and 10 February in the UK.
