The more I see of James Watkins' Woman in Black with Daniel Radcliffe, the more intrigued I am. I was not a Harry Potter fan, so I don’t really know much about his chops. I’ve seen clips of him doing bits from his Broadway appearances, but that’s about it. He may be the greatest actor in the world, but he looks kind of ‘slight’. In any case, I think he’s perfect for this.

Dan stars as Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer who is ordered to travel to a remote village and sort out a recently deceased client’s papers. As he works alone in the client’s isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover tragic secrets, his unease growing when he glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black. Receiving only silence from the locals, Kipps is forced to uncover the true identity of the Woman in Black on his own, leading to a desperate race against time when he discovers her true intent.

Sure, there are flashes of the usual ghost story parlor tricks, but it still looks all kinds of creepy! And it has Ciaran Hinds in something a little bit more befitting of his talents.

Also starring Janet McTeer, who was just nominated for a SAG and a Golden Globe for her supporting role in Albert Nobbs, Woman in Black has a screenplay by Jane Goldman of Stardust, Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class fame so right there, I'm thinking it's going to be a cut above your standard spook fest. The film haunts theaters in the US beginning February 3 and in the UK on 10 February.
