Friday’s Fabulous Fashionistas: Rachel McAdams, Mariah Carey & More

It may all have been elementary to Sherlock Holmes, but then, what did he know about fashion? Attending the L.A. premiere of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, actress Rachel McAdams, 33, is anything BUT elementary when she cut a stunning and seamless silhouette on the red carpet – or shall we say, black carpet – when she attended the event held at the Village Theatre in L.A. on December 6. Rachel was striking in silver in a Marchesa Resort 2012 gown that even Holmes would have approved of. The long-sleeved embroidered dress features a striking cowl-back that makes the gown as beautiful exiting a room as it does entering especially if Rachel is wearing it. Rachel completed her look with Christian Louboutin "Marale" silver ankle booties from the Fall/Winter 2010 collection (above right) and Jacqueline Nerguizian jewels. Rachel reprises the role of Irene Adler, Sherlock Holmes' love interest in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows currently playing in theatres. See you at the box office!

Who can sizzle in red and still stand out on the red carpet? Singer Mariah Carey, 41, of course. Mariah donned a sleek and sexy maraschino cherry red gown to show off her willowy figure at the Noble Gift Gala at The Dorchester in London, UK on December 10. Mariah was the guest of honour at the event where she received the 2011 Noble Gift Humanitarian Award for her endeavors in helping disadvantaged children. To give you an idea of the compassion this woman embodies:
Mariah has generously donated her time and energy to a range of philanthropic causes near to her heart, including Save the Music and The Make-A-Wish Foundation. A tremendous supporter of children’s charities, both domestic and international, Mariah, in partnership with the Fresh Air Fund founded Camp Mariah, a retreat for inner city children to explore career development. Mariah's impact transcends the music industry to leave an indelible imprint upon the world at large. – www.mariahcarey.com
Not bad for a woman who gave birth just seven months ago to twins, Monroe, a girl and Moroccan Scott, a boy, and on her third wedding anniversary, April 30, 2011. It's also reported that Mariah has shed more than 70 lbs. since the happy event. That being said, may Mariah and Nick have the "merriest" of Christmases! Just sayin'.

Also attending the Noble Gift Gala in London on December 10 was Eva Longoria, 36, who served as the Honorary Chair of the event. Always a winner on the red carpet, the Desperate Housewives (who looks anything but) actress looked stunning as she strikes a pose wearing a deep V-neckline, raspberry tone J. Mendel gown, completing the look with Salvatore Ferragamo clutch and Brian Atwood pumps. (It's not too late to add those to your Christmas wish list.) The Noble Gift Gala was a tribute to those who help support and foster awareness for children in addition to the empowerment of women all around the world. And to that I say, "More power to you, Ms. Longoria."

Another Hollywood do-gooder, actor Colin Farrell, 35, walks the red carpet at the American Giving Awards presented by Chase, which was held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on December 9. While I haven't seen a men's three-piece suit in years, especially on the red carpet, Mr. Farrell justifies its return and very nicely I might add, looking dashing and handsome as ever. (Hmm … Is it the suit or are Irishmen the most gorgeous men on the planet? Especially the ones with black hair, pale skin and captivating eyes. And let's not forget that alluring Irish accent. I think I just got my answer.) Colin was honored at the event for his ongoing support of several charitable efforts, including the Special Olympics. (Ah … more than just a handsome face.) He has also raised awareness about a condition known as Angelman Syndrome, which is a rare genetic disorder that his beloved son James has. Adding to his filmography, Colin has also just finished filming the science-fiction action film, Total Recall which is scheduled to be released August, 2012 in the U.S. and Canada. Patience, my dears. Patience.

Fashion isn't just about playing it safe and settling. It's also about taking a risk. And actress Diane Kruger, 35, rolled the dice and came out a winner when she wore this gorgeous black halter dress with tiered skirt and sheer base from the Emilio Pucci Spring 2012 collection at the 2011 UNICEF Ball presented by Baccarat at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in L.A. on December 8. The dress cleverly captures the essence of vintage and allure without one overtaking the other. The laced tiered skirt is classic while the sheer base of the dress offers a modest peek, especially at those fabulous ruby red Brian Atwood pumps that even Dorothy of Kansas would be envious of. Diane completes the look with a gold Ferragamo clutch and gold drop earrings. So what do you think of this look? If you ask me, it's a keeper!

Actress Jenna Elfman, 41, is lovely in Lanvin when she also attended the 2011 UNICEF Ball presented by Baccarat at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in L.A. on December 8. I don't know about you, but I'm feeling the love for this look! Just one or two strategically placed ruffles can really add a lot of panache to a dress. And I love the way the one-shoulder ruffled creation showcases her chic do while maintaining an overall balance of elegance and sophistication. Now wouldn't this be a great look for that Christmas party or ringing in the New Year! Complimenting her look is a Rebecca Minkoff Rose Cross-Body evening bag. It's been quite a while since we've seen the former Dharma and Greg actress on the red carpet and with a style like this, I hope to see more. A beautiful comeback Jenna!

Resplendent in red is actress Claire Danes, 32, when she attended the Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum Launch party held at the IAC Headquarters in The Big Apple on December 7. The Homeland actress wore a – you guessed it – Valentino dress accessorized with jewels from Melinda Maria and Kara Ackerman Designs. The colour is striking and compliments Claire's fair skin tone while it contrasts her lovely golden tresses. But what I really like about this dress is the embroidered detail (above right). And with the name Valentino behind it, be assured it's embroidered by hand and not by machine. Valentino's virtual 3-D museum showcases an historical account of the designer's creations and the good news is that you don't have to leave home to see it. Head on over to: http://www.valentino-garavani-archives.org.

Also captured by the paparazzi is this week's youngest fashionista model and actress, Olivia Palermo, who also joined Claire Daines at the Valentino Garavani Museum Launch party at the IAC Headquarters in NYC on December 7. While Olivia opted to wear an elegant and sophisticated black sequined and embroidered mini by Marchesa, in keeping with the spirit of the event, her nude pink pumps, matching snake-skin clutch and earrings are by Valentino. Olivia was signed to Wilhelmina Models in 2009 and has appeared on several magazine covers, including Elle Mexico, Tatler, and Marie Claire, UK, just to name a few. In addition, she also launched a jewellery line with Roberta Freymann in 2010 and appeared as a guest judge on Project Runway Season 9 as well as a guest judge on Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model. And did I happen to mention that she is just 25?

Singer LeAnn Rimes, 29, rocked the red carpet at The City of West Hollywood's Proclamation of December 13 as 'NOH8 Day' event held at The House of Blues on December 13. LeAnn cleverly takes a tuxedo-inspired jacket, combines it with leather pants, and creates one smokin' hot look to remember. Her outfit is pulled together by: Vince leather pants ($1,150), Smythe jacket ($695), Mayle vest, and Tom Ford shoes ($700). Total cost of look: $2,545.00 and that doesn't even include the vest! The good news is that you can tear a page out of LeAnn's fashion book and also create just as smokin' hot look for yourself (above right) for just $486.00!: Fitted Blazer: $78.50, Animal Sparkler Corset: $49.50, VS Pencil Pant in Leather: $298.00 and Peep-toe Sandal with Side Bow: $60.00. Ladies, put that Christmas bonus to good use and be that "It girl" on New Year's Eve. www.victoriassecret.com!
