I saw a ‘standup’ for James Watkins' (that’s him pictured below—he’s the one with the ‘cans’ around his neck) ghost story, The Woman in Black in the lobby of a local theater this week. (it was a bigger version of the creepy poster with the two kids with the scratched out eyes). While I'm certainly ready to see this classic Victorian gothic spook-fest, I’ve been talking about it since August after all, it was nice to hear other people sound excited about it too. Now that the countdown to its release has begun in earnest, we'll be getting new material more often. Today have a few eerie new stills to share.

The Woman in Black stars Daniel Radcliffe as Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer who is ordered to travel to a remote village and sort out a recently deceased client’s papers. As he works alone in the client’s isolated house, he begins to uncover tragic secrets, his unease growing when he glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black. Receiving only silence from the locals, Kipps is forced to uncover the true identity of the Woman in Black on his own, leading to a desperate race against time when he discovers her true intent.

Written by Jane Goldman (Stardust, Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class), The Woman in Black also stars Ciaran Hinds, Janet McTeer (a recent SAG, Independent Spirit and Golden Globe nominee for Albert Nobbs) and Roger Allam and begins haunting theaters in the US on February 3 and in the UK on 10th February.

We have three new stills and a poster from those two wild and crazy guys, Neveldine/Taylor for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Ya know…there are a lot of best/worst/biggest disappointment lists out there right now and I just can't help thinking that this movie might show up on one them this time next year. Can you guess which one I'm thinking of? This thing just looks so over-the-top nutty (in the trademark style of the dynamic duo who brought you the wacky fun of the Crank movies with Jason Statham). If that’s the wave they rode in on, GR:SoV could be a lot of fun. BUT these two were also responsible for draining any soul out of the high-concept Gerard Butler vehicle Gamer (which I still managed to enjoy to an extent, but you don't want to hear about that now.) If we get THAT Neveldine/Taylor, all bets are off.Take a look at the fiery new stills. What do you think?

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is the sequel to 2007's inexplicably popular Ghost Rider and Nicolas Cage again plays Johnny Blaze. I'm only interested because Idris Elba is playing someone called Moreau. In the trailer he's wearing black leather and riding a motorcycle. *thud* I have to say that’s reeling me in. Plus I really would like to know what’s up with the accent he’s using.

This time out, as Johnny Blaze lays low in Eastern Europe, he is called upon to stop the devil (played by Ciaran Hinds. How the HELL did that happen?) who is trying to take human form. (But it's CIARAN HINDS!) Violante Placido, who was so good in Anton Corbijn's The American with George Clooney, replaces Eva Mendes, who (perhaps wisely) turned down the option to return, as “the girl in the movie”.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance opens in the US and Canada on February 17 and in the UK on 22 February

Joss Whedon’s The Avengers has got to be one of the top five most hotly anticipated films of 2012. It boasts an unparalleled matchup of the best of the Marvel pantheon of superheroes, including Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow, all played by so many big names that I get a headache just imagining the wrangling that took place with agents and reps and studio honchos in terms of billing. (My guess, they settled for alphabetical. Robert Downey, Jr. probably would have won anyway.)  The movie doesn’t open until May but we’re getting some New Year’s treats apparently. We have a new version of the trailer that’s just been posted to MSN’s Russian site. (Thanks to Comingsoon).

It’s dubbed (again with the dubbing!) but you won’t be watching this for the dialogue anyway. There is a lot of new footage and it seems to hint at the actual plot of the film a bit more. Oh, and can I say I’m digging the flip in Loki’s hair? (after Thor, Midnight in Paris, The Deep Blue Sea and War Horse, I’m a Tom Hiddleston fan.)

It’s not me, right? Nicole Kidman looks like Ann Margaret circa Kitten with a Whip or Viva Las Vegas. I'm thinking the curl to Zac Efron’s lip says he thinks so too. Seriously though, I absolutely love the retro 70’s vibe (befitting the story) this first poster for The Paperboy is giving off.

The Paperboy is based on a 1995 sexual thriller by Pete Dexter (“Paris Trout”) and Dexter developed the film over the course of ten years with Pedro Almodovar, who is one of the producers. The film is directed by Lee Daniels in his follow-up to 2009’s Precious. He tabled his much talked about MLK biopic, for which he’d tapped David Oyelowo (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Help, MI-5) to star, in order to tackle The Paperboy.

Brief synopsis: An idealistic reporter for the Miami Times returns to his Florida hometown to investigate a case involving the murder of a local sheriff. He’s eventually helped by his younger brother, Jack (Zac Efron) as they investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a death row inmate (John Cusack). Matthew McConaughey plays Ward James, who teams with another reporter (Oyelowo as Yardley). During the course of the investigation, Jack falls for the woman (Kidman) whom the convict has been romancing through prison correspondence.

The Paperboy stars Oyelowo, McConaughey, Cusack, Kidman, Efron and Scott Glenn. Millennium/Nu Image picked it up for distribution during the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. No release dates are yet known, but if they’re giving us a poster then we should have a date soon, probably in time for Cannes 2012. (I hope so, Nicole Kidman needs to make us forget Trespass…like pronto.)

Christmas is a time for family and loved ones and the fact that Katy Perry and Russell Brand spent Christmas 7,000 miles apart, there is no denying SOMETHING is up. According to US Weekly the two had a huge fight where each said to the other f*ck you and went their separate ways. She headed off to Hawaii with friends and he was in Coverack, Cornwall. 

Either these two are incredibly stubborn or there is more happening than just a fight. They are still in the Honeymoon phase of their relationship, so why spend Christmas apart? She's also just finished a world tour and had said she was going to be taking a year spending it with Russell. Although the two have denied their relationship is in trouble (sort of, they did not come out and say no we aren't divorcing) I'm not buying it.

When Katy was at the 2011 American Music Awards not only was she not with Russell Brand (he was in Los Angeles at the time) she didn't thank him in her speech. 

These alleged issues aren't just current according to US Weekly's source:

"They haven't split up just yet, but things are not good," "The fighting is getting worse."

Katy was originally going to be taking her family to England with her  to celebrate Christmas with Russell until their massive fight.  Interestingly enough, Russell hasn't tweeted since December 18th, not that he tweets a lot. Listen to me, I sound like a stalker, hehe. Katy tweeted on the 26th of December where she tweeted a link to a site that had pictures of her and friends partying.

If these two are in the process of splitting up, I'd like to appeal to them to announce it before 2012 so that I can add it to my 2011 Celebrity Splits list. This would make it 35 couples which is a nice round number to end the year on.
