Two New Clips from Puncture with Chris Evans Coming to DVD

Chris Evans in Puncture Movie Trailer!

Puncture, starring Chris “Captain America” Evans comes to dvd next week, one of the first of the new year. We haven’t talked about this one since August.  Despite the fact that it had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, it was only given a very limited theatrical release back in September. (The same day another festival favorite, Machine Gun Preacher was quietly snuck into theaters). Puncture, directed by Adam and Mark Kassan, two brothers best known for television work, is a legal drama with a plotline that might have been lifted from a Grisham novel, or Michael Connolly or any number of writers using the legal thriller template, about a drug-addicted lawyer who takes on a health supply corporation while battling his own personal demons. It has three writers credited, but none of them are called John Grisham.

The official synopsis from the Millennium Entertainment press release:

“Mike Weiss (Evans) is a talented young Houston lawyer and a functioning drug addict. Paul Danziger (Kassen), his longtime friend and partner, is the straightlaced and responsible yin to Mike’s yang. Their mom-and-pop personal-injury law firm is getting by, but things really get interesting when they decide to take on a case involving Vicky (Shaw), a local ER nurse, who is pricked by a contaminated needle on the job. As Weiss and Danziger dig deeper into the case, a health care and pharmaceutical conspiracy teeters on exposure and heavyweight attorneys move in on the defense. Out of their league but invested in their own principles, the mounting pressure of the case pushes the two underdog lawyers and their business to the breaking point.

This true David and Goliath story is brought to life by directors and brothers Adam Kassen and Mark Kassen, written by Chris Lopata.”

We have two new clips to entice you into buying, renting or streaming the film. The first is called “Courtroom” and sets up the fact that Evans’ character is a personal injury lawyer and apparently knows what he’s doing.

The second is called “Saving Lives” and it sets up the case that the rest of the film will revolve around.

I'm a sucker for a good legal drama so I'll probably give this a go. (I would have in a theater if I had had access to it!) Puncture costars Michael Biehn, Brett Cullen, Vinessa Shaw, one of the directors, Mark Kassan, Roxanna Hope, Tess Parker, Kate Burton and Jesse L. Martin (Jesse L. Martin! Gaah, I remember the first time he showed up on "Ally McBeal"…*thud* Where the hell was he? I didn't see him in the trailer. Sorry…fan girl moment)

Puncture will be available on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digitally on January 3, 2012.

AMPAS Unveils Promo Poster for 84th Annual Academy Awards!

AMPAS Unveils Promo Poster for 84th Annual Academy Awards!

“Celebrate the movies in all of us”.

Yesterday the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) made the USPS happy and mailed out the ballots for the 84th Annual Academy Awards to their nearly 6000 members (A relatively small number when you consider the number of people who toil at making a living in the actual business of making movies.) Today they’ve unveiled their first piece of self-aggrandisement…I mean poster…their first poster.

Of course it features the iconic award itself  along with a handful of  images from eight films Oscar winning (all but one of the films represented won the award for Best Picture, except Giant, for which George Stevens won for Best Director.) spanning eight decades: Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh in Gone with the Wind (1939), Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca (1943), James Dean in Giant (1956), Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music (1965), Marlon Brando in The Godfather (1972), Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy in Driving Miss Daisy (1989), Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump (1994) and Russell Crowe in Gladiator (2000)..

"Whether it's a first date or a holiday gathering with friends or family, movies are a big part of our memory," said Academy President Tom Sherak. "The Academy Awards not only honor the excellence of these movies, but also celebrate what they mean to us as a culture and to each of us individually."

Posters will be available to theaters in the U.S. and internationally, along with a theatrical trailer, which will begin screening on January 6.

The 84th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 5:30 a.m. PST in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for Outstanding Film Achievements of 2011 will be presented on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

The Oscars, much like a lot of other awards, are becoming increasingly irrelevant to younger generations of film-goers. Frankly the Academy needs to do a major overhaul, in my opinion, to get more people interested. New categories for Best Ensemble, Best Picture Comedy or Musical, Best Actor/Actress Comedy or Musical (dividing them from Dramatic films/performances) not to mention recognizing new technology like motion capture, (Andy Serkis NEEDS an Oscar!) would go a long way toward this goal. I am one of the few who lives for film related awards shows. Oscar Night is my High Holy Day, so I’ll be tuned in. As soon as the nominations are announced I’ll share my picks. (I know you’re all waiting with baited breath! HA!)

More Posters and Pics from The Avengers!

More Posters and Pics from The Avengers!

More shiny new images of everyone's favorite gang of super heroes, The Avengers! Yay! *demented poodle dance* Joss Whedon's eagerly awaited tie-in with Marvel's Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Captain America and Thor movies arrives in theaters next May, but in movie promotion terms, that's right around the corner. We have another new batch of character posters for Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Bruce Banner aka The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), not an actual super hero, but rather the director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D.

We also have a couple of the Russian versions of the posters as well as a few new stills.

The premise:  An unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D., finds themselves in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.   (dun dun DUN!)

The Avengers hits screens everywhere in 3D and 2D on May 4, 2012. (For reasons unknown to me, the 3D is a post-conversion.) Isn’t it about time for a new trailer? A clip? A tv spot maybe? C’mon Joss, you know you want to.

Spreading the Wrath! New Stills and Posters for Wrath of the Titans!

Spreading the Wrath! New Stills and Posters for Wrath of the Titans!

We just brought you the first trailer for Wrath of the Titans, the sequel to 2010’s Clash of the Titans, the week before Christmas. Today we have, thanks to Warner Brothers, ten new hi-res stills and four monster character posters to share! Two reasons to be hopeful about this film: One, that first trailer made the thing appear to be miles ahead of its predecessor. Starting with Liam Neeson’s voice as Zeus giving his half human son Perseus (Sam Worthington) some fatherly advice was a good idea, so was using Marilyn Manson’s cover of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams”.  Two, the movie was filmed in 3D as opposed to the (terrible) post-conversion done to the 2010 film. I don’t think I’ll ever be fully on board the 3D bandwagon, but if you’re going to do it, do it right.

Synopsis:

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) –the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)–is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Bill Nighy!Toby Kebbell! (last seen as one of the humans given a few minutes of screen time in that saccharin-infused War Horse. Spoiler: the horse stole the movie from every one of them) Edgar Ramirez! Ok, ya got me. I’ll pay to see Edgar Ramirez in 3D. Oh yeah, and the monsters look really cool too.

Wrath of the Titans, directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Battle Los AngelesThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) is unleashed March 30 in the US and the UK. Much more to come in the next three months I’m sure. Enjoy the new pics!
