Gary Oldman and Mark Strong Bring Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy to New York!

Gary Oldman and Mark Strong Bring Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy to New York!

The New York Premiere for Tomas Alfredson’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was held last night at the Sunshine Landmark Theater. Ahead of the film’s December 9th opening (at long last), a few of its stars make the trek to the Big Apple in support.  Gary Oldman and his gorgeous wife Alexandra Edenborough and Mark Strong and his beautiful wife Liza Marshall walked the carpet along with David Dencik, who plays Toby Esterhase,  writer Peter Straughan, producer Tim Bevan and director Alfredson.  Melancholia and Martha Marcy May Marlene actor Brady Corbet was there, along with his Two Gates of Sleep director Alistair Banks Griffin. The adorable Jason Bateman brought along his very pregnant wife Amanda Anka. Stalwarts of the New York theater scene like playwright John Patrick Shanley, Matthew Settle, Anthony Edwards and a strangely bearded Michael Stuhlbarg showed up as well.  No idea why 90210’s Ryan Eggold was there, but he makes for excellent eye candy.

And you'll have to forgive my fan-girly moment but….MARK STRONG! *demented poodle dance*

Enjoy the pics!

Prometheus Pics and Your Daily Michael Fassbender

Prometheus Pics and Your Daily Michael Fassbender

Last week we got our first real look at Michael Fassbender , Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Logan Marshall Green in Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel, Prometheus. Now, thanks to 20th Century Fox, we have better, hi-res versions of those pics plus one more. The new one shows Sir Ridley on the set with Noomi Rapace in costume as Elizabeth Shaw.

Here’s what we know about Prometheus thus far:  “Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.”

The first trailer for Prometheus leaked on line earlier this week (and then was promptly taken down and embargoed and every other damn thing to try to get the cow back in the barn) so I expect we’ll see an official version sooner rather than later. The film doesn’t open until June 8 so I’m sure there will be plenty more to come!

In other Fassbender news, the Fassinator has decided that he needs to take a break from acting after having appeared in Jane Eyre, X-Men: First Class, A Dangerous Method and Shame this year alone. While promoting Shame, Fassbender joked to The Associated Press that “the public might be growing tired of him after such a busy year.”  Pffft! As if.

"After Prometheus…I'll give myself a break and I think everybody else. It's sort of like Fassbender overload here".   Gerard Butler went through a similar phase….three movies out within six months.  Then he decided we were getting sick of him (again, as if) and we went a year and a half with nothing. Don’t do it Fassy!  While I can understand that the actor wants to guard himself against burnout, WE do not need a break. Just sayin’.

Now THIS Looks Cool! Full Trailer for John Carter!

A New Poster for John Carter!

The first full length trailer for Andrew Stanton’s John Carter has dropped. The film stars Taylor Kitsch of “Friday Night Lights” and the upcoming Battleship, as the titular Carter, a former Confederate soldier who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars.

Synopsis: Transplanted to Mars, a Civil War vet discovers a lush planet inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter a princess who is in desperate need of a savior.

In the trailer we see the Tharks and get to hear Willem Dafoe’s voice as their leader, Tars Tarkas. Tarkas is a great warrior, but still “possesses a sense of compassion and empathy uncharacteristic of his race…Tars Tarkas is the very first Barsoomian encountered by John Carter when he appears on Mars.”   We also get our first look at Mark Strong as Matai Shang, aka “the Holy Hekkador Matai Shang”.  Hekkador means leader. Shang is the leader of the “Holy Therns”.  So we know we have two tribes and I’m assuming Carter will be caught in the middle.  Dominic West as Sab Than appears to be a prince of some sort and there seems to be a wedding ceremony about to happen between Than and Lynn Collins Deja Thoris. Whether this is welcome or not remains to be seen. I’m guessing not, given West’s propensity for playing villains.

I think this looks exceedingly cool. The creatures look like things we haven’t seen since the first Star Wars movie (by that I mean Episode IV) coupled with the technology at the fingertips of Pixar vet Andrew Stanton and I think we’re in for a wild ride.  John Carter opens March 9.

Bella Swan’s Dress Cost HOW MUCH?!?

Bella Swan's Dress Cost HOW MUCH?!?

Take a guess…Go on I dare ya.  Would you believe the dress that little 18 year old Bella Swan walked through the forest and down the aisle in to marry the love of her life, who just so happened to be a vampire, Edward Cullen, in Twilight: Breaking Dawn – part 1,  cost $35,000.00? That’s right, thirty five thousand dollars. I don’t think Kate Middleton’s dress cost that much.

Stephanie Meyer’s favorite designer, Carolina Herrera designed the dress. She and director Bill Condon selected it from ten sketches that the designer submitted. It is entirely handmade and it was custom fit to Kristen Stewart’s body. It took four seamstresses six months to finish.

The dress is crepe satin with French Chantilly lace with 152 buttons running down the back with 17 buttons on each sleeve. The dress will be included in Carolina Herrera’s 2012 collection and Alfred Angelo will have a replica available in select stores. That one will retail for $799. The original is certainly gorgeous, but it seems to me that Papa Swan would probably be springing for the replica. I'm thinking a hand-made designer dress would be a little off of his price-point. But hey, if he can marry his daughter off to a vampire, maybe he also had some magic beans to sell for the dough.

Now for the best part… Check out those SHOES! The appropriately named Manolo Blahnik “Swan” shoe retails for a mere $1295.00 *thud*.  They’d better be comfortable!

The UNICEF Snowflake Ball Kicks Off the Season of Giving!

The UNICEF Snowflake Ball Kicks Off NY the Season of Giving!

The annual UNICEF Snowflake Ball, is one of the most prestigious events on the New York social scene. Now in its seventh year, it helps raise funds for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Relief Fund, which provides support to children in poverty-stricken nations.  This year’s event was held at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City Tuesday night.

Guests included Uma Thurman in a gorgeous green Atelier Versace column dress and Adrien Brody (Haters can hate but I think he's hot), both of whom have been affiliated with UNICEF for a long time. Sarah Jessica Parker was in frothy white Louis Vuitton (Matthew must have been home with the kids), Zoe Kravitz in black and white Chanel and really terrible bangs (What, no Penn Badgely? Trouble in paradise? Oh I crack myself up!). Angie Harmon looked STUNNING in a backless silver and gold Jean Fares Couture cut down to there.  Vera Farmiga is so pretty and she has a cute rock ‘n roll husband. I wish she’d stop dressing like a little old lady. Granted, this dress was by Naeem Khan, who also attended the event, but it still managed to make her look MUCH older and frumpier than she is. I understand the 40’s look she was going for and she did go all out with the Fred Leighton vintage jewelry…but still! Also in attendance, Gayle King, Kevin Jonas, Matt Lauer, Mark Ruffalo, Natasha Bedingfield, who also performed and Bravo’s Andy Cohen, who emceed the event.

Enjoy the pics!

Hugo Gets a Royal Command Performance in London!

Hugo Gets a Royal Command Performance in London!

The cast of Hugo, including Asa Butterfield, Chloe Grace Moretz, Sir Ben Kingsley, Helen McCrory, Frances de la Tour and Richard Griffiths made the trip, along with director Martin Scorsese, to London to screen the film for Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, on Monday night, November 28.

Helen McCrory brought along her lovely husband, Damian Lewis. (They are one of my favorite couples. Is it odd that I have favorite couples?) Sir Ben was accompanied by his statuesque wife Daniella. Speaking of statuesque, when I first looked at that pic at the top of the post, I thought Chloe Moretz had to be standing on a box. No, Martin Scorsese is just that short.  Mr. Scorsese had his family with him, including wife Helen and their daughter Francesca, who “inspired” the movie. After his wife and daughter read the book, “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” by Brian Selznick, they both ‘begged’ him to film it, so that he would finally have made a movie his daughter could see. It was also Francesca’s idea for it to be filmed in 3D. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out. It’s stunning.

Also at the after-party were Kate Hudson, (stick thin again after giving birth a mere two months ago), Rod Stewart and his latest family, some girl group called Little Mix (who looked a lot out of place), Brian May (I think it is so cool that he never cut his hair. Don’t ask me why) and a British tv star called Ben Fogle, who is very cute…oh and his wife. Enjoy the pics!
