Hear a Preview of the Score While New TV Spot for John Carter asks “Where Am I?”
Disney has released a third new thirty second tv spot for its big gamble of the year, John Carter. It features a few tidly-bits of new footage, but while I’m not sure that it will entice anyone not already interested, especially since it’s so short, I think it will work to keep up the enthusiasm of anyone already looking forward to the film. It doesn’t have the fantastic remix of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” playing underneath it (I get excited about seeing the movie every time I watch the trailer when I hear that music as Tars Tarkas -voiced by Willem Dafoe- opens his four arms with a sweeping gesture like the grand marshall of a parade), but it does have a snippet of Michael Giacchino’s rousing score.
Talented and prolific composer Giacchino was recently interviewed for “Music on the Radio” by WQXR. The full interview can be heard below, wherein he talks about some of the other films for which he’s composed the music (including UP, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Super 8) as well as John Carter. The clip includes world premieres of “John Carter’s Theme, “Pursuit of Deja” (from which the trailer music seems to have been taken) and “Deja’s Theme”. I love a good soundtrack and this is a real treat. Not having seen the film I can only imagine the scenes that go with it at this point but it is easy to put it together with some of the images I’ve seen in the trailers.
The segment with the tracks from John Carter starts around the 44:00 minute mark.
John Carter, directed by Andrew Stanton and starring Taylor Kitsch, Willem Dafoe, Lynn Collins, Mark Strong, Thomas Haden Church, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, James Purefoy and Bryan Cranston will be released in theaters on March 9, 2012
