The new trailer for Lynne Ramsay’s We Need to Talk About Kevin, aimed at the US market, goes further than anything we’ve yet seen. It also makes sure we know that Tilda Swinton gives an amazing performance, then again, what else is new. She always does. She and John C. Reilly star as the parents of a teenage old boy (Ezra Miller) who goes on a high-school killing spree and must try to deal with their grief and feelings of responsibility for their child's actions.

Official synopsis: Eva (Swinton) puts her ambitions and career aside to give birth to Kevin. The relationship between mother and son is difficult from the very first years. When Kevin is 15 , he does something irrational and unforgivable in the eyes of the entire community. Eva grapples with her own feelings of grief and responsibility. Did she ever love her son? And how much of what Kevin did was her fault? 

I’ve loved every trailer I’ve seen for this. Usually the music used gives us cues as to what the mood and tone are of what we're about to see. If that were true here, coupled with the expression on Swinton's face for the first half of it, I'd think this was a comedy of sorts. The mood and tone shift about half-way through and we know we're dealing with something much darker, but it doesn't tell you how to feel about it.

We Need to Talk About Kevin  wowed at Cannes and at TIFF and every festival you can think of. It won the BFI London Film Festival’s equivalent of Best Picture last week and has already opened in the UK. It gets a limited (grrrrrr) US release on December 2. 

Jodie Foster Takes Her ‘Beaver’ (and Mel Gibson) to Cannes – PHOTOS

Mel Gibson’s only very loyal friend, Jodie Foster premiered her movie The Beaver at the 64^th Annual Cannes Film Festival where sugar tits made an appearance all dressed up in his tux.

Bar Refaeli was also at the premiere looking mouth-watering gorgeous. It really makes a girl wonder about Leonardo DiCaprio’s sanity.

Mel Gibson skipped the photocall for The Beaver but Foster, being the director and all, didn’t and did say Gibson would be at the premiere but wouldn’t be talking. She says of his tape-recorded racism:

“I can’t excuse Mel’s behavior. Only he can explain that,” Foster told reporters at Cannes. “But I do know the man that I know. He’s been a friend for many, many years, and as a friend, he is kind and loyal and thoughtful, and I can spend hours on the phone with him talking about life. And he’s complex, and I appreciate his complexity and what his complexity brings to his work.”

Gibson plays a suicidally depressed husband and father who seeks relief (and therapy) through his Beaver hand puppet.

Angelina Jolie brought the glam in her chocolate Versace gown to Brad Pitt’s premiere of The Tree of Life at the 64^th Annual Cannes Film Festival in France. And that’s a good thing because earlier at the press conference Brad was met with boos.

Brad produced, financed and starred in the movie but when it came time to answering questions at the press conference that the absent director Terrence Malick should have answered, the press was less than patient. Maybe they didn’t like slick-back freaky look he is rocking?

In the film he plays a tough-as-nails father that makes his kids respond to him with ‘yes, sir’ (my husband tries that..sometimes he dreams a little too big), doesn’t allow dinner talk and makes his kids go hungry. At the press conference, he jokingly talked about his own parenting style: “I beat my kids regularly — it seems to do the trick — and deprive them of meals,”

Famke Janssen’s Directorial Debut at Cannes Film Festival

The always beautiful Famke Janssen appeared at Day 3 of the Cannes Film Festival at the American Pavillion for her directorial debut in the movie ‘Bringing Up Bobby’. The film stars Milla Jovovich (the con artist), Bill Pullman and Marcia Cross in the movie that Janssen also wrote, which according to imdb:

Is the story of a European con-artist and her son Bobby, who find themselves in Oklahoma in an effort to escape her past and build a better future.

We would have seen Janssen directing movies long before this one, but a little thing like a James Bond film got in the way:

I had written a bunch of scripts, and one screenplay got me into the AFI Film School,” It all happened at the same time, and when I opted for ‘Goldeneye,’ my career just ended up going in that direction,”

How did an actress who was making her first ever directorial debut get the financing? She made a ‘director’s book’:

”which illustrated how I viewed the film, which really helped,” she says. “So not only did I write the script, but I had a clear vision of how I wanted to shoot the film, and that ultimately gave people the confidence to give me the money to make it.”

Bringing Up Bobby debuts sometime this year but a specific date has not been set.

Sweet baby Jesus, Jane Fonda is SMOKING HOT at the age of 73!! The iconic actress is in France for the Cannes Film Festival where she rocked the red carpet for the premiere of Sleeping Beauty in a white Emilio Pucci gown that showcased her gorgeous figure. This woman could put girls a third of her age to shame!

I don’t care that she has had plastic surgery (she readily admits this) she looks natural and not pulled back and tight. She is as gorgeous now as she was back in her prime.

I don’t know why, but these photos struck me as funny. Maybe my sugar is low, I don’t know. But can you guess the arms? This happened in Cannes on Day 2 but the arms belong to someone from Day 1 (although clearly he’s there on day 2). That’s a hint.

Okay I can’t make you wait any more. Those arms belong to Woody Allen and the man he is holding onto is Michel Denisot. I’m not sure what happened to result in this position but it’s gold. It’s Friday and it’s gold. I love it. His daughter, child bride must be so very proud right about now. Yup. You married him honey. He’s all yours.

Allen was appearing on Denisot’s show Le Grand Journal where either the urge to drop to his knees was beyond overwhelming or Allen slipped and Denisot was trying to help him out. I’m going with Door Number 1. It’s funnier. Seriously these pictures crack me up.
