It’s only the second day, but the Cannes film market is already busier than a Wal-Mart on Black Friday. The Killer Elite, an action adventure thriller starring two of the three manliest men working in showbiz today, Jason Statham and Clive Owen, will be released Fall of 2011 by Open Road, the new distribution company launched by theater chains AMC and Regal.

The Stath plays Danny, a living-in-exile, uber-skilled special-ops agent. He’s called upon to put his old team back together to penetrate (yeah I said it) a covert unit of the British Special Air Service (SAS) known as “The Feather Men,” led by Clive Owen’s Spike.  The plot involves a search and rescue mission to recover Danny’s old mentor, played by Robert DeNiro

The script is based on “The Feather Men”, a non-fiction story by Sir Ranulph Fiennes (second cousin to Ralph and Joseph.)

In other Cannes- related news, the Film District has purchased US distribution rights to Playing the Field, staring the third of the manliest men, Gerard Butler. Directed by Gabriele Muccino (The Pursuit of Happyness) and produced by Butler (among others.)

He plays a former pro-footballer (Soccer to neophytes-the kind of football played with the feet) trying to reconnect with his son only to be waylaid by desperate housewives, cougars and ubiquitous soccer-moms (considering the number of women who consider Butler to be sex-on-a-stick, there is a serious dearth of love scenes in his films, so I don’t care if it’s ‘waylaid’ or any other kind of laid, as long as it’s on screen. Preferably with tongue).

Helena Bonham Carter is known for her amazing acting skills and sometimes more importantly, her fashion sense.  Her latest “impression” came at the Golden Globes when she wore a pretty wild dress, and… those mismatched shoes.  The fashion police freaked out and I applauded her.  That’s just Helena being Helena.  Why on earth would you want her to be someone she’s not?  I love that she’s completely eccentric and unique, on a daily basis.

Don’t we have enough Angelina Jolies and Anne Hathaways?  Let the girl be wild.  Love it.  Embrace it.

Up next?  The Oscars of course.  Helena talked about her Oscars dress to the Telegraph saying,

“I have no idea.” She explained, “Of course I want to have fun … It’s probably going to be a catastrophe. But it’s like, I’m gonna go for it.”

“I promise I’ll wear the same colored shoes,” Carter vowed. “But we’ll wait and see. And quite frankly, as my boyfriend knows, it’s right up to the last minute it can go wrong at any time.”

I love it.  Don’t be modest girl!  Go for it!

Despite all the controversy that followed Ricky Gervais‘ hosting gig of this year’s Golden Globe Awards, he has been asked to come back a third time. The Daily Mail quotes the funnyman as saying:

‘The ratings went up again, and the organisers asked me to consider a third year. (But) I don’t think I should. I don’t know what I could do better. I certainly couldn’t get more press for them, that’s for sure.

The article goes on to quote him from his writings in this week’s Heat Magazine:

‘I did exactly what I went to do: improve on last year’s and have a laugh. The response was staggering. It was discussed on every news channel and chat show for weeks.

‘The weird thing is, the question is always, “Did Ricky go too far?” And the answer is always, “No.” I have yet to find anyone who was actually offended by it.’

His controversial jokes included a jab at closeted Scientology actors, Robert Downey Jr’s past drinking issues and Mel Gibson.

My only beef with the Golden Globes was there wasn’t enough Ricky Gervais.

Last night the 2011 Screen Actor’s Guild Awards aired live on TBS.  I enjoyed it more for the fashion than the actual awards.  Why?  Perhaps because of the fact the Golden Globes already gave away these winners, which further confirmed that we have nothing to look forward to for the Oscars aside from the red carpet fashion.

That being said, we have your full list of winner below and all of them deserved the honors.  My fave of the night, Natalie Portman.  Congrats lil momma!

Ricky Gervais‘ hosting gig on the 2011 Golden Globe Awards has caused a lot of controversy saying he went over the line, etc. I LURRRRVVVVE Ricky Gervais. This man is delicious. Sure the Scientology homosexual joke was shocking but I’m pretty sure that’s his job, right? It’s not like he said anyone’s name (THAT’S crossing the line by ‘outing’ someone).

I’ve seen a lot of comedians on the Comedy Channel and they are way worse than Ricky. My only issue with the Golden Globes is there wasn’t enough of Ricky. And despite rumours he was not yanked midway through the show.

What is the best revenge? Rock some gold lamé boxer shorts (courtesy of Ellen DeGeneres) on a balcony top with a gorgeous view. I’ve pictured me and Ricky like this many times. Oh, and address all the crap that’s being said about him:

All the same conspiracy theories as last year too… “So and so was offended”… “hasn’t been invited back yet”… exactly the same as last time. “Paul McCartney was furious”… no he wasn’t. And nor was Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. I was drinking with them after.

Why do people have to embellish? They’re allowed to say they hated it. They’re allowed to say they didn’t find it funny, that it was tasteless, over the top, or whatever. But why do they speculate and make stuff up?

Do you think Ricky Gervais crossed the line?

No worries.  She’s not trying to imitate her disgusting ex Jesse James‘ mistress, Bombshell McGee.  Sandra Bullock showed up on the red carpet at the Golden Globes with much darker hair and new bangs.  Not very Sandra at all.

So what’s that about?  How about a movie role!  Oh yeah!  Sandra Bullock is in fact a very successful actress who sometimes has to alter her look for a role.  Remember The Blindside?  Yeah, that was not her best look, but it was perfect for that role.
