New Images, Posters and a Clip from W.E.

New Images, Posters and a Clip from W.E.

I’m one of those that sees conspiracy around every corner so it’s not a stretch for me to think that it is no coincidence that Optimum Releasing and The Weinstein Company have dropped a new clip from Madonna’s now Golden Globe winning film, W.E. the day after the film picked up an award. Of course the Globe was for Best Original Song, but don’t get me started on that. (Whatever Harvey wants, Harvey gets. Everyone knows that, including Meryl Streep.)

The clip is simple, a dance scene in which Andrea Riseborough’s Wallis Simpson begins the dance in the arms of her current husband, Ernest Simpson (David Harbour) and ends it in the arms of her future husband, James D’Arcy as Edward, then still the Prince of Wales. There is no doubt this film will be visually stunning. The period costumes have already been the subject of a Vogue pictorial and Riseborough looks more completely like Wallis Simpson than any actress who has played her before.

What remains to be seen is whether or not the thing comes together as a film with a cohesive narrative. It’s ambitious with two main story lines taking place in different decades with essentially two casts. Abbie Cornish and Oscar Isaac play the contemporary pair. Of course, Cornish hasn’t been seen since TIFF in connection with the film. Does Madge feud with everyone?

Enjoy the clip and the new pics and posters. W.E. opens this Friday, 20th January in the UK an February 3 in the US.

Madonna Premieres W.E. in New York!

Madonna Premieres W.E. in New York!

Sunday night, December 4, the Cinema Society of New York and Piaget hosted a screening of Madonna‘s film W.E. at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa). Based on the epic love story between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, the film also follows a contemporary romance between a young woman and a married security guard. It stars Andrea Riseborough and James D’Arcy as Wallis and Edward and Abbie Cornish and Oscar Isaac as the modern couple. Of course Madge showed up, looking fierce, (including an 18K white gold Piaget) to introduce the film.

The event drew out a lot of New York scene-sters ranging from art patrons to hipsters and all variations in between (my invite must have gotten lost in the mail) like Cinema Society Founder Andrew Saffir,  Harvey Weinstein, Anderson Cooper, Chloe Sevigny, Jeremy Piven, Adrien Brody, Kim Cattrall, Kelli Garner, Annabelle Wallis, Michelle Trachtenberg, Jeff Gordon and Ingrid Vandebosch, Catalina Sandino Mareno, Parker Posey, Anson Mount, Donna Karan, Julian Schnabel, Patti Smith, Andy Cohen, Francisco Costa, Andre Leon Talley, Stefano Tonchi, Rachel Roy, Olivier Theyskens, Prabal Gurung, Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl and Valentino. After the film, guests headed over to Crown for the after party. We’ve got a few pics below.

W.E. opens for an awards run this Friday December 9 in NY and LA before opening wide February 3.

Much Improved 2nd Trailer for Madonna’s W.E.

First Look at Madonna's W.E.!

While we know that Harvey and The Weinstein Company showed so much faith in the film that he planned an awards season push for it, by most of the reports coming out of Venice and Toronto, Madonna’s W.E. was a bit of a mess. Visually stunning, but without much “there” there.

I’d heard that there was some last minute behind the scenes retooling being done prior to its release and if the new trailer is any indication, I think it helped. This new trailer seems to have more focus, and indeed puts most of it on Abbie Cornish and her contemporary character Wally Winthrop.

The synopsis:  W.E. is a  two-tiered romantic drama focusing on the affair between King Edward VIII (James Darcy) and American divorcée Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough) and a contemporary romance between a married woman (Cornish) and a Russian security guard (Oscar Isaac).

Check out the film’s newly launched website here.

W.E. opens in New York and LA on December 9, the UK  on 20 January and wide in the US on February 3.

Madonna & Abbie Cornish Film W.E.

Madonna & Abbie Cornish Film W.E.

Madonna is directing W.E., which is  the story of Britain’s King Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne after falling in love with American divorcee Wallis Simpson. Now that’s love!

The star of the movie, Abbie Cornish can be seen filming her scenes wearing a very lovely black dress.  Not only is Madonna directing the movie, she helped write the screenplay.  As for those recently-surfaced pictures of her smoking on set? It’s all rubbish according to her rep, the Material Girl is NOT smoking and it was just a prop.

Kristen Bell @ Chanel’s Tribeca Film Festival Dinner

How can anyone not love Kristen Bell? She’s so cute, sweet, spunky and has a wicked sense of humour not to mention she’s a talented actress.  I simply love her sense of fashion: classic, elegant and very flattering to her tiny frame.  I can imagine how beautiful her wedding gown will be when she marries Dax Shepard.

She attended last night’s Chanel Tribeca Film Festival Dinner in support of the Tribeca Film Festival Artists Awards Program in New York.  What this means, I haven’t a clue but I like looking at pretty pictures.  I’m simple like that.

Also attending:

  • Peter Facinelli
  • Abbie Cornish
  • Olivia Thirlby
  • Selma Blair
  • Rachel Zoe
  • Aaron Eckhart – he is most doable, yes?
  • Zach Braff
  • Andrew McCarthy
  • Zoe Kravitz

What are the odds that 2 people attending the same party have a name that begins with ‘Z’ (Zach Braff & Zoe Kravitz).  I truly need a life.

Jessica Alba & Kate Hudson Premiere ‘The Killer Inside Of Me’

Kate Hudson brought her new boobies to the Tribeca Film Festival’s premiere of The Killer Inside of Me.  It also stars Jessica Alba, Liam Aiken, and Casey Affleck.  The movie is described as:

A West Texas deputy sheriff is slowly unmasked as a psychotic killer.

Kate took the focus off of the boobies by focussing on her legs instead and potentially her bearded taco by rocking a short skirt that Jessica assisted in keeping down from a gust of wind thank gawd I don’t think I could stomach thatKate’s hair doesn’t do a lot for me.

Also attending the premiere:  Cash Warren and Abbie Cornish.
