Last month we had your first look, with a couple of images, at the new animated feature Hotel Transylvania. Today we have your first peek at Mavis, teenaged daughter of Dracula, voiced by Selena Gomez as well as the first trailer. The fil is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Lab), with the voices of Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi, Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Cee Lo Green, Fran Descher, and David Spade.
I really like what I see in terms of the visuals. Enjoy:
“Welcome to the Hotel Transylvania, Dracula’s (Adam Sandler) lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters they are without humans to bother them. On one special weekend, Dracula has invited some of the world’s most famous monsters – Frankenstein and his bride, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, a family of werewolves, and more – to celebrate his daughter Mavis’s 118th birthday. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem – but his world could come crashing down when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis.”
Hotel Transylvania will be released in the US on September 21 and 12th October in the UK, in 3D of course.

Hotel Transylvania is a new animated monster movie (homage? Mashup?) comedy and we have the first pics.
Master thespian Adam Sandler’s vocal talents are on display as Count Dracula, father to Selena Gomez’s Mavis. The monsters we’re all familiar with assemble at Dracula's resort, Hotel Transylvania, for Mavis’ coming-of-age birthday as she turns 118. In the vampire world, that signals the time to break out from the sanctuary.
Per director Genndy Tartakovsky:
“It's refreshing to go back to the beginning of Dracula — and then have Adam Sandler put his spin on it. There will be no sparkling skin. But there are a lot of jokes.
The motto of Hotel Transylvania is that it has been human-free since 1898. This is a place that all his friends can come without being persecuted by humans. They are just trying to live their own lives.”
Adding to the hilarity are Kevin James (Frank), Andy Samburg (Jonathan), David Koechner (Quasimodo), Cee Lo Green (Murray the Mummy),David Spade (Griffin the Invisible Man) Steve Buscemi (Wayne), Molly Shannon (Wanda) and Fran Drescher, who plays the Bride of Frankenstein. Eunice (a bit on the nose?). Hotel Transylvania opens September 21 in the US and 12 October in the UK.

I think I finally get it. Since Adam Sandler and his merry band of idiots at Happy Madison Productions can’t be the ‘best’ at anything, they’re going to be the worst, which probably equates to being the ‘best’ at being rotten. There can be no other explanation for why he continues to crank this garbage out. What is truly inexplicable is why studios keep throwing money at him and enabling him to do it.
Every time an Adam Sandler project is announced, I do my part to ticket-buyers away. In that spirit, here is a red-band, definitely NSFW trailer (courtesy of ComingSoon) for the newest in the Sandler oeuvre, That’s My Boy.
The fact that he’s now trying to drag Andy Samberg down with him is particularly heinous. Samberg has talent and while it’s obvious he sees Sandler has some sort of mentor, he can be better than this. (So can Sandler for that matter. He was good in Spanglish and Funny People. Hell, he was good in The Wedding Singer, but I suppose those days are over.) That’s My Boy, by the way, is just the first pairing of Sandler and Samberg we’ll be subjected to this year, but at least Hotel Transylvania is animated.
That’s My Boy also stars Leighton Meester, James Caan, Nick Swardson, Susan Sarandon (?!), her daughter Eva Amurri Martino, Will Forte, Ana Gasteyer, Milo Ventimiglia, Blake Clarke and Vanilla Ice. Yes, that really was Vanilla Ice. The movie opens June 15 but not until 7th September in the UK (so you Brits have plenty of warning).

From the ridiculous to the sublime. Game of Thrones – season 1 comes out on dvd today as well Immortals, Footloose, The Skin I Live In and Adam Sandler’s steaming pile that has been called the worst movie of the decade (so far), Jack and Jill. I’ll let you decide which is which, but I’m starting with the obviously sublime.
By way of introduction to the the Game of Thrones boxed set, I have to show you this clip (thank you HeyUGuys) from The Simpsons. Matt Groening’s seminal series continues to have its finger on the pop culture pulse and it has used the show’s introduction to prove it for the last twenty two years. This one is a brilliant take on the brilliant opening credits for Game of Thrones, complete with theme music.
It still burns my biscuits that that music was passed over for an Emmy nod. Who makes these decisions? Oh well, it is obvious by now that what moves and stirs me is not always the same as what moves and stirs people with the power to decide these things. (No, I am still not over How to Train Your Dragon.)
Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; and all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords, and honest men, all will play the Game of Thrones.
You really need to see this so that you’re ready for season two, which starts April 1!
The Game of Thrones dvd and blu-ray includes the following special features:
-Making of
-15 Character profile clips
-Creating the Dothraki language
-Inside the Night's Watch
-From Book to Screen
-Creating the Show Open
-7 Audio Commentaries Guide to Westeros
Tarsem Singh’s Immortals is a movie we talked about a lot before it was released. It didn’t open to exceptional reviews, but it made a pile of money anyway. I suspect it will make an even bigger pile in the home market, although considering that visuals are not only Singh’s strongest suit, but they are everything when it comes to this movie, unless you’ve got a pretty impressive home theater system, it might lose something in the translation.
Immortals tells the story of Theseus (Henry Cavill), a mortal man chosen by Zeus to lead the fight against the ruthless King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke), who is on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity.
Special Features include:
-It's No Myth
-Deleted Scenes
-Theatrical Trailer
-Sneak Peek
The remake of Footloose seemed to come and go without much fanfare (or is it my selective memory?) The plot was basically the same as the 1984 version, but there was definitely less Bacon.
In any case, if you need a refresher, here’s the official synopsis (from the film’s website, something the producer’s of the original would probably have thought Orwellian):
Writer/Director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan) delivers a new take of the beloved 1984 classic Footloose. Ren MacCormack (played by newcomer Kenny Wormald) is transplanted from Boston to the smallsouthern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont’s local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister’s troubled daughter, Ariel (Julianne Hough) in the process.
We didn’t really discuss The Skin I Live In when it was out theatrically. Acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodovar reunites with one of his favorite actors (Antonio Banderas) for his first foray into horror. Although the film was a festival favorite last season, it was difficult to find in a theater. It really only got released to New York and LA and a handful of art houses in a very few major cities. Well, now that it’s on dvd and blu-ray, you can see it too.
Dr. Robert Ledgard (Antonio Banderas) is a driven plastic surgeon haunted by personal tragedies. After many years of trial and error, he finally perfects a new skin – a shield which could have prevented the death of his wife in an accident years earlier. His latest “guinea pig” is a mysterious captive whose true identity masks a shocking mystery. The Skin I Live In is a masterful tale of secrets, obsession and revenge from Oscar-winning (Best Writing, Original Screenplay, Talk to Her, 2002) writer/director Pedro Almodovar.
The Special Features are few:
-Q&A with Director Pedro Almodovar
-On the Red Carpet: New York Premiere
Do I actually have to talk about Jack and Jill? I’m pretty sure the dvd cover tells you all you need to know. Adam Sandler plays Jack as well as his own sister, Jill.
Jack Sadelstein (Adam Sandler) is a successful advertising executive in Los Angeles with a beautiful wife (Katie Holmes) and kids, who dreads one event each year: the Thanksgiving visit of his identical twin sister Jill (also Adam Sandler). Jill's neediness and passive-aggressiveness is maddening to Jack, turning his normally tranquil life upside down.
Why is Katie Holmes married to one of the ‘most powerful men in Hollywood’ if he can’t get her better parts than this?
Special Features include:
-Laughing is Contagious
-Here Comes Jill
-Look Who Stopped By
-Boys Will Be Girls
-Stomach Ache
-Don't Call It A Boat-Royal Caribbean

Oh goody, there's a new Adam Sandler movie on the horizon.
Donny’s Boy is a new film coming to a multiplex near you (since an art house won’t touch anything with Sandler’s name on it, just on general principals) next June, smack in the middle of summer block-buster season.
Generally, I like to highlight films that could probably use the exposure, the films you probably have never heard of and so will skip right over them when and if they ever get a release…unless someone (read: Me) tells you about them. Then of course there the films that fascinate me either because I want to see them or they just seem like they’re going to be a trainwreck I won’t be able to believe anyone threw money at. Anything with Adam Sandler falls into the latter category until proven otherwise. And I will admit that Judd Apatow’s Funny People did prove otherwise, even if it was so badly marketed that most of the Adam Sandler fans out there actually hated it. Spanglish wasn’t bad either. I digress, as usual, but I have a point.
The simple storyline: A father moves in with his son right before his wedding and soon begins sparring with his daughter-in-law.
The twist? Sandler plays the father. Andy Samberg (who incidentally, is only 12 years younger than Sandler) plays the son. Leighton Meester plays the bride-to-be.
While still in his teens, Donny (Adam Sandler) fathered a son, Todd (Andy Samberg), and raised him as a single parent up until Todd's 18th birthday. Now, after not seeing each other for years, Todd’s world comes crashing down on the eve of his wedding when an uninvited Donny suddenly shows up. Trying desperately to reconnect with his son, Donny is now forced to deal with the repercussions of his bad parenting skills.
Donny’s Boy was originally titled I Hate You Dad, but never mind that. Todd’s mother is played by Susan Sarandon who was one of Donny’s teachers, with whom he had an affair. Do you see why I’m maybe thinking this falls into that trainwreck category I mentioned earlier?
The rest of the cast includes Sarandon’s daughter Eva Amurri, Will Forte, James Caan, Milo Ventimiglia, Blake Clark, Ian Ziering, Todd Bridges, Colin Quinn (as well as Ciara, Vanilla Ice and Tony Orlando- I swear I’m not making this up). It was directed by Sean Anders and John Morris, the writers of Hot Tub Time Machine and She’s Out of My League. It was written by David Caspe (Happy Endings) and then rewritten by Ken Marino and David Wain (who both wrote Wanderlust). Yeah…
Donny’s Boy opens June 15 in the US and 7th September in the UK.

Andy Samberg (SNL) is also in the lineup, along with Leighton Meester and James Caan.
The movie is about a father-in-law (Sandler) who moves in with his son (Samberg) and his wife. The feud ignites between Sandler and Meester…. and well, we can use our imagination until the trailer hits.
That’s all we’ve got for now, but we will keep you posted on the funny details as they are released.
Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman were pretty much on fire for the premiere of Just Go With It in New York City last night. Those ladies put on the sexiest black numbers they could find and then hit the blue carpet at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City.
Nicole was rocking the sexy leather and Jen was owning the slinky sheer number. Love it. I just saw Adam Sandler promoting this flick and I have to say, I can’t wait to see it. Did you catch the trailer during the Super Bowl? If not, you can check it out below. But I will warn you, Brooklyn Decker is ridiculous. (You’ll see.)
Jennifer Aniston wore a strapless Dolce & Gabbana sheer dress at the Ziegfield Theatre in New York for the Just Go With It premiere where she posed with co-star and real life good friend Adam Sandler who brought his lovely wife.
Decked out in animal print was the gorgeous Brooklyn Decker, and in leather, a sexy and very happy Nicole Kidman rocked the red carpet with her uber sexy husband Keith Urban. Dave Matthews also appears in the film and I’ve heard he’s quite funny in it.
The romantic comedy is described as:
On a weekend trip to Hawaii, a plastic surgeon convinces his loyal assistant to pose as his soon-to-be-divorced wife in order to cover up a careless lie he told to his much-younger girlfriend.
Last night I caught TMZ and their cameras caught up with the young girl in the movie, Bailee Madison and not only is she the sweetest kid you’ve ever met, she is so mature and smart beyond her years. They were trying to trick her into saying something negative about her co-stars and she told them she wasn’t falling for it. The girl will be 11 in October.
Judging from the trailers it actually looks pretty good and I’ve been hearing good things about it from those that have already seen it.
Will you go and see this film? What do you think of the trailers?
