Big Cache of Behind-the-Scenes Pics from Mirror Mirror!

Big Cache of Behind-the-Scenes Pics from Mirror Mirror!

We have a bunch of cool behind-the-scenes pics (and 1 new still) taken during the making of Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror. This version of the Snow White tale is going a more traditional route than that of Snow White and the Huntsman. (Traditional in terms of what the public is used to, more Disney-esque, let’s say. SWTH is closer to the dark side of the Grimm tale.) The pics seem to center around scenes taking place in a snow covered birch forest, which is actually a soundstage, with Snow (Lily Collins) and Brighton (Nathan Lane).

Lily Collins will not be wearing armor nor fighting battles, and the dwarves appear to be played by actual Little People (The actors are Jordan Prentice, Joey Gnoffo, Sabastian Saraceno, Martin Klebba, Mark Provinelli, Ronald Lee Clark and Danny Woodburn. No word yet if any of them are grumpy, happy or sleepy), but the first trailer looked stunningly campy. Julia Roberts looked to be having a blast as the Evil Queen, but Armie Hammer looked like he was wondering how he’d gone from The Social Network to J. Edgar to this.

Mirror Mirror stars, in addition to Collins, Roberts, Hammer and Nathan Lane, Mare Winningham, Michael Lerner and Sean Bean as the King *swoon*. Relativity will release it March 16 making it the first out of the gate, but will it be forgotten by June 1 when Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth charge into theaters?

Mirror, Mirror Has the Campiest Trailer of Them All!

More Images from Relativity's Snow White!

The latest volley in the big battle of the dueling Snow White’s is a trailer for Tarsem Singh’s now titled Mirror, Mirror. You know, the one with Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer and Phil Collins’ daughter Lily.  That other one, Snow White and the Huntsman has Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Stewart. It’s kind of like the Greek vs the Roman Gods…only not.  I can imagine that Universal rushed the SWatH trailer out there to capitalize on KStew’s ubiquity due to Breaking Dawn’s imminent opening. Relativity is probably hoping to stick the trailer for Mirror, Mirror on the coattails of the success of its latest release, Immortals.

These two films have since we saw the first images, appeared to be completely opposite each other in style and tone. This trailer confirms it. Where SWatH is dark and dramatic, Mirror, Mirror is light and frothy almost to the point of camp. Julia Roberts is clearly having a blast as the Evil Queen. Whether or not it works within the context of the entire film remains to be seen. This is either going to be a hot mess or a laugh riot.

Did that dwarf just say what I think he said? Yes. Yes he did. He went there. I don’t know about this. The script is by Jason Keller, whose only other credit is Machine Gun Preacher. Opinions differ wildly on that film as a whole but if you wanted to parse it out, in my opinion the script was the weakest aspect of it. I don’t know what that says about Mirror, Mirror. I can’t judge the entirety by the trailer, but it doesn’t make me hopeful. Mirror, Mirror still has the advantage of opening first, on March 16..

The Men of AFI! – photos

The Men of AFI! - photos

Doesn’t that sound salacious? Like it belongs on a calendar full of cheesecake photos? Well, that’s not quite what we have here. The American Film Institute has been holding its annual AFI Festival and so there have been quite a few red carpets spread out upon which some very nice gentleman have stepped in the past few nights.

Leonardo Di Caprio, Armie Hammer (doesn’t he just look like he’d make the perfect Prince Charming? His movie now has a title, by the way. Tarsem Singh’s unnamed Snow White Project is now called Mirror, Mirror) as well as director Clint Eastwood all showed up for the premiere of J. Edgar.

Antonio Banderas appeared at the tribute to his friend and frequent director Pedro Almodovar. Not crazy about the haircut, but those eyes still get me.

Jeremy Piven, Thomas Jane and Rob Lowe (who must have a slowly degrading portrait locked in his attic) turned up for a screening of I Melt With You. And Dominic Cooper represented the Y chromosomes for My Week with Marilyn.

Saving the best for last, we have Michael Fassbender and Ewan McGregor who brought the sexy to the stage and sat for a Q & A with director Steven Soderbergh and costar Gina Carrano after the “sneak” screening of Haywire. And then Ralph Fiennes (sadly sans Gerard Butler) showed them both what they have to look forward to in a few years, at the AFI screening of his directorial debut, Coriolanus. (Call me crazy but I love that he was having a bad hair day. Those eyes!)

Enjoy the pics!

New Stills for Eastwood’s J. Edgar starring Leonardo DiCaprio!

New Stills for Eastwood's J. Edgar starring Leonardo DiCaprio!

There are a lot of new pics available for Clint Eastwood’s new baby, J. Edgar starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the original head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. J. Edgar Hoover was the symbol of American law enforcement for nearly 50 years and assembled a cohesive, cooperative federal enforcement agency that advanced the use of forensic evidence, especially fingerprints. He was also hated as much as he was admired. His  now legendary abuses of power include the manipulation and blackmail of elected officials, wiretapping and the intimidation of civil rights leaders.  But, "…behind closed doors, he held secrets that would have destroyed his image, his career and his life." J. Edgar tells the story of this dichotomy.

Also in the cast are Dame Judi Dench as Hoover's mother Anne Marie, Armie Hammer as Clyde Tolson, Hoover's friend, ally, constant companion and perhaps lover (the movie is leaving it open to interpretation), Josh Lucas as Charles Lindbergh, Naomie Watts as Helen Gandy (seen in the pics at various stages of her fifty-four years as Hoover's trusted secretary) and  Jeffrey "Burn Notice" Donovan as Robert F. Kennedy. (And is it me or does it look like Hoover is arresting Conan O'Brien in one of the pics? It's actually Damon Herriman as Dewey Crowe… Bruno Hauptmann)

Written by Dustin Lance Black (Milk, "Big Love"), J. Edgar will open in the US and Canada on November 11.

Armie Hammer Covers Details Magazine

Armie Hammer Covers Details Magazine

Armie Hammer 25, graces the cover of Details Magazine rocking a bit of a Jimmy Dean look to him with chest hairs creeping up out of his t-shirt and amazing blue eyes that his wife must get lost in.

This handsome young Prince Charming looks anything but an heir to an oil fortune on the cover and that’s okay with him because he is one unassuming, down-to-earth kind of guy that likes to keep it real. This dude is also 6’5″ tall! Can you believe that? Now that’s one very tall drink of water.

On not shaving his chest for his upcoming role as Prince Charming opposite Julia Roberts: “Julia had a line about how smooth my chest is,” he says, “and it’s not. So the producers were like, ‘Okay, just shave him.’ And I was like, ‘WHOA. I spent 25 years earning this chest hair. I’m wearing purple tights and a codpiece, so, please, let me keep my manhood.’ ”

On moving to LA after growing up in the Cayman Islands: “I went from a place where everybody was friendly to a city with no trees to climb. No crabs to catch. No machete. I had long hair and an accent. I didn’t know who Nirvana was. I didn’t know what the Lakers were.”

During the interview with Hammer, writer Howie Kahn meets Hammer’s wife, Teaxs-born tv journalist Elizabeth Chambers.  At one point during the encounter, Chambers describes how she sassed Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie’s co-star in the upcoming J. Edgar, while visiting the set. “I actually met Leo when I was modeling in Tokyo when I was in high school,” she says. “He hooked up with my roommate. When I saw him on set after all those years, I said, ‘Tell me you’re not an asshole. Do not make me hate you for the rest of the shoot. She was Spanish—you took a bath your first night together. What’s her name?’ And he goes, ‘Marta.’ ”
This wasn’t just his wife being cheeky, Hammer tells Howie. “Texas women are incredible. They’re like, ‘I love you, I’m sweet, I’m kind, but don’t fuck with me, because I’ll stab you.’

On not turning out like an a**hole: “I could have turned out that way and run in those circles,” he says as he ducks to fit his frame through the doorway. “But I’m glad I didn’t. Besides, I have too many real friends, and this wife, who—if I ever acted like that—would smack me so hard, right in the mouth.”

His wife is stunningly beautiful and sounds as down-to-earth as him! That is rare and even rarer in Hollywood.

His upcoming film J. Edgar hits theatres November 9, 2011 where he plays J. Edgar Hoover’s assistant and lover Clyde Tolson.

For the entire interview head on over to Details.
