In an effort to avoid embarrassment for all concerned, The Barenaked Ladies have opted out of performing at the Disney event which was to have taken place in New York in Long Island New York late next month.

The band, who are longtime friends,  remains supportive of Steven Page.  Page plans on appealing his conviction.  The band released the following statement earlier this week regarding the arrest:

“Many of you have probably read or heard press accounts about Steven Page’s recent arrest in New York state. Steven has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and the validity of the charges against Steven will be strongly contested,” the band statement said.

The band hits the studio later this year to record an album.

TMZ is reporting that Steven Page was arrested Friday in New York for possession of cocaine!!  The mild-mannered lead singer of The Barenaked Ladies was arrested as he and 25 year-old Stephanie Ford were in an apartment with it laying out on a table.  The police discovered them as a result of investigating a suspicious car in front of the building.  Page was released on $10,000 bail.

Now THAT will be an awkward conversation with his wife.  To add to it all:  the band just released a children’s album.

Wouldn’t it  be a shame that someone with his talent would continue to go down this path?
